Should Boston Bark Corporation continue a composting operation at Marbello Farm on Barretts Mill Road?



Yes, there's nothing wrong with what they're doing

No, the operation is too disruptive

They should continue but in a scaled back form

The otherwise excellent Journal article (front page) left out two critical facts:

1. The size of the mulching operation has expanded geometrically in the last 3 years or so. For decades, the activity was a small fraction of what goes on today.

2. The focus of the mulching operation no longer is primarily on supplying mulch to a small family farm that is at the same site. With multiple 18-wheelers hauling mulch (taken from Mt Everest-size piles) off the site everyday, this is clearly a large scale commercial operation, in the midst of a formerly residential area, serving a large portion of eastern MA. A Farmer In The Dell operation it is not.

Many days a particularly sour smell occurs even at the very top of Annursnac Hill Rd, where I live. It is amazing how far the odor travels. Although I am very cognizant of the need to compost, I would appreciate it if they could move the business elsewhere: they have a very large footprint.
