All signs point to NO..
Falls Church City is a small independent city that took years of windfall tax money from escalating home values, spent it ALL on new services and local government and is now doing anything possible to sustain those decisions at any cost. It’s kind of like purchasing a new big screen TV and now trying to find a way to pay the monthly cable fee The much touted property tax increases in surrounding Fairfax and Arlington and the reported oh-so-small Falls Church increase can be viewed this way: The real property tax rate in Fairfax County has declined from $1.74 per $100 of assessed value in 1976 to the current rate of $0.89. Since Fiscal Year 2002, the real estate tax rate was reduced five times for a grand total of 34 cents. The small, but grateful Falls Church City increase can only be addressed by telling you that those surrounding authorities are still way lower. Why you ask? They exercised fiscal responsibility and significantly lowered their tax rates during the boon. Remember when Falls Church recently tried to sue Fairfax County for infringing on water services that are in Fairfax County? It was an act of desperation to protect projected utility revenues. They chose to attack our big-sister locality, who let’s us keep our schools, tax free, on their property. It failed. These so called city leaders are so intent to sustain their elite little circle by portraying their efforts as wanting to play with the big boys. This place we call home is our lovely little city and we are letting starry-eyed officials turn it into something quite different. The facts are that Falls Church City doesn’t know how to or want to reduce programs that only exist because of bad spending decisions. These are the facts
