Obama's statements and his anger are not, I believe, about the fact he disagrees with Wright's views but rather that Wright is hurting him with us conservatives. Obama knew about Wright and his radical views but didn't believe Wright would be so vocal now with Obama running for the Presidency. Obama's now coming out and denouncing Wright because he wants the Whitehouse, at any cost. Whatever lies he needs to tell to convince America he's NOT anti White or America, he will do. Obama is one intelligent man and if you Americans out there want to believe he knew nothing about Wright and his hate of White Americans and the United States of America, I have a bridge to sell you.

If this were not so very serious it would be funny. Obama rejects Wright, than Wright rejects Obama, than Obama really rejects Wright. Its like 2 little boys in a p...ing match. Where is our country going and down what road? The Democratic party and its nominees are so artificial and phony. I fear the outcome if either of these 2 wind up in the oval office. God Help Us!

I think that Obama is pissed off and tired of the Rev. and his mouth. Just as soon as people started to forget about the whole ordeal, here he comes out of the woodwork and just for his own personal gain. That man (rev.wright) doesnt give a DAMN about Obama or anyone else.

Obama has known about Rev Wright's hatred for white's and America before he announced his presidential campaign. That's why he dis-invited him to the announcement of his campaign.

It's all coming together now. Rev Wright was selling his hatred on DVDs from the church. Obama had to know.

Now that the heat has really been turned up he had to come out and do political damage control.

It's too little too late.

If the democrats are smart they will grab Hillary before she does something stupid too!

Harry

I think Obama did what he did today in rejecting Rev. Wright because he is a politician and he says what he has to say to get elected. Rev. Wright nailed it!

I have a different idea of the Wright-Obama issue. To Me it is all a Sting, that is the both of them made this decision to play parts. Wright is playing the bad guy to Obama's good guy, yes I truly believe it is all a fake, a ploy to help Barak, the problem is that it may backfire and hurt him instead of helping him get elected!!

Roy Kirkland
2008-04-29 22:15:44 ET

Obama has flip flopped on this Rev. Wright issue so much that its obvious that he is now distancing himself to attract the blue collar white voters. I think its to late. This sure makes Obama look weak. I'm voting for a strong and tough candidate. Im for Hillary.

This was just so much BS. Obama has known, they have been playing these clips over and over again on the news and internet. He said something now, because his advisors finally convinced him that he had to or he wouldn't have a chance to win. And while I am ranting, I'm not sure where he wants to pretend to be coming from. If I understand correctly he was raised by his white mom, and he is a pretty wealthy man.

Barack slept with the devil to get his career started, and now to quote Re. Wright, "The chickens are coming home to roost". Barack is not a typical politician, but a bad one. His judgment is extremely questionable, and I do not believe he is telling the truth about who he really is.

Obama is a smart man. He knows he must rise above this to beat Hillary. Of course he is going to slam Wright. He should have listened to a few sermons in all those 20 years of attending church. If this situation were reversed every black in America would cry racism loud and rightfully so!

I am glad this is happening, just a little late, but not too, too late. I suuport Hillary but, I was impressed with Obama until I saw Wright in action and try as I might I cannot imagine him and his angry wife in the White House any more. If Obama gets the nominnation I will vote for McCain even though I am a democrat and its NOT about race, its about Hate and Obama supported hate by sitting in the pews for 20 years.

It is worth considering that Obama and Wright scripted the past few days so that Obama could formally denounce his spiritural advisor.

DMA
2008-04-29 22:18:19 ET

Reverend Wrong is only spewing the same rhetoric for the past 20 years. It's only when his spiritual advisor, beloved uncle, mentor is blowing his chance of becoming President that Obama denounces him.

Unfortunately his wife feels the same way as well.

She's been awfully quite lately...maybe she's afraid that Obama will denounce her also!

2008-04-29 22:18:19 ET

If Sen. Obama is so intelligent, why did he think the American public would believe his last-minute attempt to denounce Rev. Wright.

As a moderate who votes both parties, I think that Corrine's comments are politically motivated and lack sophistication. The right and left wing extremists will focus on this issue while the rest of us talk about solutions that can make the USA and global community stronger.

Tim

Obama joined the church because it was politically expedient. Obama is distancing himself now because its politically expedient. In spite of anything he says, Obama is just a politician engaged in what politicians must do to get popular support. In that regard Rev Wright is correct.

CINDY
2008-04-29 22:19:26 ET

Wow. It took 20 years and how many days since this started. The only reason he is denouncing him is because he is desperate now that Hillary is getting the recognition she deserves. Saying this is not the same person, well, then why hiding him and praying with him at the announcement of the running. I'd love to see video of Obama at these church gatherings and see if he is hallaleuing to everything wright says. Now that would really seal his fate. Then he couldn't hide behind the fact that he didn't know about all of this stuff.

There is only so far Teflon can go before it starts coming off and the real thing is exposed.

I hear someone on you show saying he acted like a clown on stage. Well that's the way all those videos looked to me. He looked like a clown and screamer. In fact, how could Obama sleep through all that screaming, so there goes his excuse for sleeping.

Besides the AIDS thing, the first case I ever heard of was Rock Hudson and he definitely wasn't black, so that theory is blown out of the water.

Dot
2008-04-29 22:19:37 ET

Funny how the Rev. gives these sort of sermons in the house of God. My pastor has never spoken words like that in all my 65 years going to church. I think all his followers better sit up and take notice just what this man is trying to accomplish. A very large tear between the american people. For a person of the cloth that is the biggest sin of all. I sure hope all black people don't feel that way, cause if they do- GOD HELP Us. I don't think that this was the sort of Dream that Martin Luther King had, who in my sincere opinion was a true and honest Reverend. Wright couldn't hold a candle next to him.

Obama was aware of all of Wrights comments many years before now. If he was angry and upset about the statements he in church, he would have left the church, but he did not. Obama has been protecting Wright up until now. Why? As the other post said...he wants to win the Whitehouse! He said himself that he could not disown his grandmother nor Wright! If Americans fall for Obama's BS we are in big trouble. Our country is in bad shape, and how his this man going to change anything? He has great words, but no exp to lead our country. If I were a black American, I would be upset at both men! Wright is telling the truth about his relationship with Obama.

There is one question for Mr. Oboma no-one has asked him. When you brag about All the work you did in the slums, for poor people, etc., and you are now talking about going above race why is it that the one thing you brag about is basically helping blacks????

Barak Obama sat in that pew for 20 years knowing it was politically correct and helpful in the Chicago political scene. I truly believe he thought this is exactly what he needed to do to get ahead. Ironically it is the same thing that may very well bring him down politically on the national level. I do not believe anything this man says. I believe if any thinking person will listen to all that he says, everyone who does will come away thinking this is all about him. I also believe the ridiculous claim that he is post partisan and for us all will finally be put to rest. He has almost all of the major media in his pocket, throngs of youth volunteers and almost the entire black community supporting him, but it is all a farce. He also is a person of no experience and a great deal of empty rhetoric.

2008-04-29 22:20:21 ET

Been at a church 20 years? If a moron is leading the church the intelligent individual bails. If he stays he buys into the philosophies and leaders beliefs.

2008-04-29 22:20:30 ET

This is a totally transparent political move.
If Wright's comments were offensive yesterday.... then they were offensive for the last 20 YEARS....
Deciding NOW that he couldn't abide his pastor's extreme rants, is just a little too convenient... just a little too cute.

David Armstrong
2008-04-29 22:20:52 ET

After all the hoopla about Obama being a "change agent" and a different kind of politico, we can now see that all he is is just another corrupt Chicago machine politician who will do anything to get elected. He will scmooze to admitted terrorists and indited crooks to gain wealth and power. Is this the best we can do?

Twenty years with this guy as your "personal mentor" and "spiritual advisor". Unbelievable. The Democrats are so far to the radical left and then on top of it this one offends the average person's intelligence by claiming ignorance of Wright after those twenty years.

Derek

A Pastor is a very important person in your life. You could not have sat there with your wife and children for 20 years unless you trusted and agreed. I believe they're very much of ONE mind, but it was hurting him in the polls.

Cat

The fact that Obama is experiencing the Rev. in "public" is at last opening his eyes to what this man is really saying. The old saying "You are known by the company you keep," is haunting Obama now. I truly believe that Obama is learning the hard way, and, he will correct his beliefs accordingly - that is a good thing, so that he can really represent the people, without predjudice for color. That being said, we need to hear about our Country's more serious issues - not some stupid preacher.

Call me naive...but I believe Obama has been hurt by his pastor and he wants to set the record straight. Sure, part of it is for political reasons; afterall he is running for President and Rev. Wright is hurting his chances by his stupid comments.

Actually, I don't think the American people are blowing this out of proportion as much as the media. I don't think Obama should be responsible in any way for the conduct of his pastor. Maybe Rev. Wright is jealous of Obama and attacking him. Maybe he is acting out of character. Maybe he has a brain tumor. Why should Obama be held accountable! I don't blame Obama at all for his connection with Rev. Wright. The man brought Obama to the Lord! That's very significant to me! He did right, however, by denouncing him today for his inexcusable comments.

Let's move on and quit feeding this subject. I know it doesn't affect my opinion about Obama's character whatsoever!

Patty

This entire Wright deal is unnerving. It's no wonder that the black population is killing itself off, no wonder they riot when something doesn't happen the way they think it should. They walk around pissed off and don't really know why. They're told in church that the government is to blame for everything that goes wrong. For heaven's sake, what happened to personal responsibility? The hate that's "learned" by children listening Wright is no different than what some children would learn as members of a southern white family taking their kids to a KKK meeting. Why are the european americans always the bad guys?

Ron

The company you keep, says alot about a person. Wright had a close relationship with Obama, To say he is no longer his pastor, only after the issue imploded shows what people will do for political gain. It is outragous how all the other networks have there head in the sand. I am thankful for FOX NEW to get the truth out.

It's all part of the game. When Obama becomes President, Reverend Wright will be there praising him for fooling at the voters. Who knows, maybe in the future we can see the video of Obama dancing up and down the aisle's of his church during one of Wright's anti-white American sermons. At least Obama's wife came out clean, about how she feels about being an American.

This latest move by Barack is not for the reasons one might think. There will be no healing of this bleeding gusher right now. The fear factor has gotten through, all political lines, reminding everyone that we have a long way to go before we can unite behind Barack. A lot of healing needs to take place. Angry older people (White and Black) need to let go of the hurtful things that transpired. This man Wright would not allow Barack to forget what he (Wright) went throuh. WE must never forget cruelty, to ensure that it never happens again. The time has come for Barack to step aside and wait for 2016. Time separation is necessary. The race is a different race than Wright wanted it to become, change has come and sadness has overtaken Barack because it is not the kind of change he was hoping for or expected. Barack will certainly not get what what he wants this go round, not a surprise Wright wants it this way.

This is yet another "crabs in the barrel" tactic on the part of Wright. He is annoyed that Obama basically left him in the wind when he decided to run for President. Its a case of the teacher feeling dismissed by the student. Hopefully people with common sense will see through Wright and realize that although not perfect, Obama is a MUCH better choice than Hillary. At least thus far there are no mysterious deaths lingering.... Oh and by the way, Clinton pardoned the FALN members who in reality were the couriers of the first act of terrorism on US soil. Why did he do this, do you ask? To court the Puerto Rican vote when she ran for Senate in NY. The list goes on and on and on.... People who live in glass houses, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Wright is an actor and a bad one at that. Lets lower the curtain on this hater.

Barack feels disillusioned by a man he thought was a minister for 20years. Now he realizes this man is just in my opinion for himself. Obamma is for the betterment of America and its people. Rev.Wright has advanced himself on the backs of his parishoners, using their hard earned money to live lavishly, and promote himself. Obama is not anything new-its politics as usual. Democrats wake up! Clinton is head and shoulders above Obama in experience, policy and judgement. She actually has built bipartisan coalitions in congress, unlike Obama. Unlike Obama she was in a position (namely in congress) to vote to support our President and she did as did almost all of the senate based upon the info that they had at the time. Obama knew Rev.Wright for 20 years if he didn't know his views he is an idiot and I don't think he is, but he certainly isn't being honest.

Tim
2008-04-29 22:30:00 ET

Amanda, you are really short sighted if you think this is about racism. I would love for Obama to be authentic. I would vote for him in a minute. He could have shown himself as someone who could unite the country by his actions as a Senator during his term, by his actions in his personal life, by the project and activities he's engaged in.

But the story does not fit the words and I will not let the threat of being called a racist to stop me from speaking my mind.

YVON
2008-04-29 22:30:05 ET

Obama should have trashed Rev Wright long time ago if he really did not aggree with what Rev Wright says, but he does not do it because Rev Wright is doing his dirty work for him. Obama agrees with what Rev Wright says and with his beliefs but is to cowardly to admit it. God helps us if this man wins and goes to become our next president.

Betty
2008-04-29 22:30:24 ET

People need to grow up and focus on what the country really needs. I have several friends who say unbelievable things and who are racist, I am black as are they, and I do not agree with them and I try to change their minds because they are wrong. I think you can be in a situation like this as Senator Obama is. Reverend Wright is bitter about Senator Obama and is trying to sabotage him, he has probably suceeded. Most black churches do not preach hate that is so untrue. Please stop trying to put people in the same box. Reverend Wright is a disgrace and has an agenda for himself.

If Senator Obama is so offended by his former "snake oil salesman" of a Reverend, then why is he still married to his wife? Senator Obama's wife and Rev. Wright are two peas in a pod. I am so tired of these politicians coming out sounding like the "victim" of what they brought upon themselves (i.e. Senator what's his name in the MPLS-St. Paul International Airport men’s bathroom stall soliciting sex with an undercover cop). Senator Obama (and his wife) knew what Rev. Wright's anti-white, anti-American and Anti-Government views were heading into the election and no matter what he says about the Good Reverend and not knowing or hearing about his hateful opinions is nothing less than a serious lie.

Senator Obama has "Insulted" the intelligence of this great country and he has found himself up to his armpits in his (and his wife’s) own lies about who they really are.

Can the American people trust this "carpet bagger?" I have to say no and neither should the world.

If elected President and after he places his right hand on the good book and is sworn in (i.e. "I Barrack Hussein Obama" etc.), he will have much more bigger things to deal with than a racist, America hating piece of crap such as Reverend Wright.

Senator Obama should not be our next President and nor should he be re-elected in the Senate. But then again, look who is still the Mayor of New Orleans.

I am on the same page with Tim. Glad to be a Republican. What is this country thinking about with Obama or Hillary? Their programs are all give away. I don't agree with everything President Bush has done but I feel safer because he has been our President. Either of the two Democrats will wreck this country.

I'M going with what Keith said, If over 20 years of association with someone he can't judge their character then how is he going to judge people as president? I want my president to beable to make good sound judgements without concerning where it puts them politically. A president is privy to things the public is not and has to use good judgement in all situations despite political opinions.

Well, if the shoes fits wear it. Wright was a reverse racist and now he doesn't want the title. But as long as he was preaching to all black church he could get away with his racism. Now that he is exposed he doesn't want to admit that's who he is. Well, every white person that accidentally says something that might be perceived as racist even if it was only once and then gets nailed by the media and gets fired, they have to face the music and now this guy has gotten caught being a racist without a cause because he is everything that he is complaining about the rich people, he's rich, lives in a mansion and as long as he can preach his rhetoric to these people and collect their money every sunday he's set for life. Obama is not a strong candidate for the presidency, and how sad would it be that he won just because of the color of his skin. You think our country is in bad shape now.

This smart Harvard grad didn't have a clue to what Rev Wright stood for and preached about?

Obama was married by Wright, had his children baptised by Wright, brings his children to church to listen to Wright. He never heard? Was never concerned for his children? You do not stay for 20 years and not be a believer. This is his church and his belief as well.

From the first time I heard Mr Obama speak I thought "OH WOW finaly someone who is of a different race than me, thinks like me"! Then he took off his Flag Lapell pin and quit saluting our flag! From then on I felt in my heart if he loses there will be race war in the streets of America! I feel if he wins our Country will fall deeper into the category of a third world! All the Dems want to do is cripple our military and say it is all in the name of Health care!
Thank God I am American I wouldn't want to be anything else

I feel that Barack Obama came out to say he was offended only when it was about him and his campaign being offended, not when the Reverend was offending the country and people in general. Then, he didn't seem to think that anyone was hearing him correctly. How could he not have known for 20 years that this was the belief of his Pastor?

Michael

The questions to the survey are too narrow with regard to Obama's comments being for political reasons. A better comparison of questions would have been "were his comments made tonight to explain his seperation of views from pastor Wright. "Political reasons" in my opinion means to spin the issue to one's own benifit.

Justin

With Obama being friends with Rev Wright for 20 years, it strikes me as odd to think that it is not until present day that he has heard and disagrees with his view points. I encourage all of you to read Michelle Obama's college thesis paper. You may find some of the same type of messages that Rev. Wright presents to his church members in his sermons. INTERESTING? mabye!

2008-04-29 22:33:51 ET

Ditto to Corrine and Cindy's comments above. J. Wright is an angry, self-absorbed, racist man who calls himself a minister of God. There's no doubt that Barrack Obama shares Rev. Wrights views and beliefs. Barrack Obama's sole purpose and goal is getting into the White House. He willt say and do whatever it takes to get elected. This is not a man that we as American need leading our country. If American's vote this man in, God help us all!! I believe he's as dangerous as his minister. If he gets elected as President of the United States, Americans will see how quickly he forgives and opens his arms to his minister, the man he "..loves like an Uncle."

Ginger

Obama had no choice to say what he did but finally...get real Obama! He is doing this only because of political reasons. Wright was right...Obama is a politician and will do anything necessary to get elected....even denouce his minister who he has really now only 'heard' for the first time in 20 years?

Ralph

Obama is much like the unfaithful husband who pleads his sorrow, not for his infidelity, but for having gotten caught. Obama had 20 years to dissociate himself from the hateful bilge he had listenened to for 20 years, but now that the "mainline" media is on his case and he sees the nomination slipping from his grasp, he finds it politically expedient to jetison his so-called mentor. Most of see him for what he truly is--an opportunist fighting for his political life.

Senator Barrack Hussein Obama should have been as outraged in the beginning when Rev Wright's comments were played on the tvs across America. Also, Mr Obama was at the church and under this minister's tuteledge for over 20 years. He has never denounced "WHAT" this so called minister said until he finally saw what a wrong political blunder Mr. Wright's comments continued to be said. Mr. Wright is Wrong and Mr. Obama is Wrong for America!!!

I think Senator Obama needs to step down and then I would have more respect for him. Senator Obama would say anything now just to save his whole neck. This is a real shame but this is what black does to black all the time. The people of America really need to get on with life and let that angry black man rant and rave to the people in Africa. Mr. Wright is a true racist and he hates anyone that is white and he is even now trying to involve the black church as if this is battle of black against white. This man is very sick and needs treatment right away. Why did Mr. Wright decide to build in an all white community, why didn't he build in the black community or better yet, why didn't he build in Africa where his roots are. Enough of this crazy man already !!

2008-04-29 22:36:49 ET

Obama broke bread with Edward Said, he attended the million man march led by Farrakhan, he has been endorsed by Hamas - Obama is right where he should be - cowering in the corner wondering what happened. Obama is just as arrogant as Rev. Wright and I truly believe that he thought that middle America was too stupid to see through his facade and that he could use guilt and shame to talk his way out of this mess amongst the liberal "intellectuals."

I predict before it's all over, the DNC will be asking Obama to bow out of the race because he's too divisive and could never win the general election and we will all see Obama endorsing Hillary. I don't even think he's viable as her running mate at this point. Too bad, I was looking forward to the fireworks when the Republicans got ahold of Obama during the general.

Mark's attack on Corinne was disgusting and smacks of the actual partisanship he denies. This is not about right or left, it is about the truth. Only someone who is a total groupie and sold out to the Obama myth would believe his shtick anymore. Honesty means much more than apparently Mark wants to realize. It is a sad cliche to say that this is driving everyone off the issues. I an sick of people forgetting that the measure of anyone is their character. The point is that if we can't even get beyond the question of this man's character, then we certainly should not want him leading the most wealthy and powerful nation on the planet. I believe he is a politician who the media have been so overwhelmingly in the tank for that it has been despicable. I am not a Hillary Clinton fan, but she has been given a raw deal by the press who rushed to love this man without knowing anything about him. Hopefully, the cult of Obama is finally coming to an end and a more truthful and objective look at all three remaining hopefuls will be achieved.

I don't consider Wright as a pastor, I think of him more as a racist and trouble maker. I would hate to be in his place when he faces God and has to explain all of his lies.

I think he's an embarrassment to his own race and this country. As they say, don't let the door hit you in the ___ on the way to what ever country would have him..He's not needed here. He's just pushing hate and using his pulpit to do it. I'm sure Iraq could use him.

Please! Why do talk show hosts throw out comments that have double
meanings? I heard Greta read a statement about Obama's speech today.
Then she went on to discuss just a portion of that statement to make it sound
as if his denounciation was about Obama. When many times during his
statement he mentioned the affect on HIS CAMPAIGN AND THE DISTRACTIONS FOR THE ISSUES AROUND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Why,
please tell me was that point under discussed and the "me' part overly discussed and taken out of context. I use to be a fan of Fox News. But when it comes to the issue of Barack Obama, none of the talk shows hosts have been fair and balanced with the exception of Bill O'Reilly and Alan Coombs. It's a shame because they have a bully pulpit that is insulated. Once their words are out, except for the guests they have, the public has no way of making them more accountable for their words and their biased statements. I hope Hillary Clinton does win the nomination if Obama loses and I hope this country finds out what she is REALLY like. Don't forget no one is mentioning her past with
defending Black Panthers or a radical group like the Weatherman 40 years
ago. She has a long history of wanting to "Change this country". Put
nothing past the Clintons!!!

Whites once had a church that spoke such hatred. It was the KKK and it is just a shame that we have a mainstream media that supports such hate filled speach. This needs to be condemned just the same that the before mention group was. The only way to move forward is for the educated to quit preying on the uneducated and filling them full of lies. (ex. that the gov't created the aids virus) This in large part is what is wrong with America. Only here could someone complain that the "rich" are not paying enough taxes when the top 10% of incomes pay the majority. Quit being a victim of yourself and build yourself into something special.

Obama can't stand the fact that he sit in Rev. Wright's church for 20 years and now he has to denounce Rev. Wright's statements. Why now??? Could he not get a character reading before now? Because of the way foxnews spin this story, it really doesn't matter what Obama say. It's very clear they are anti Obama. They are not "Fair and Balanced". If they were, there are other folks in Obama's life who can help them understand who he is. They only present Jeremiah Wright. Why not talk to his grandmother here in the US, who happens to be White. For the life of me, I do not understand why they keep saying he is black. He was raised by a white mother and white grandparents. If FOX is going to be fair, present a side that shows his character based on his own actions. FOX IS NOT FAIR AND BALANCED. He cannot control Rev. Wright; which should be obvious now after hearing him over the weekend. That's like telling John McCain's mother she cannot rent a car...so what did she do, she purchased one. He is old enough to be his father. We all know when a person reach a certain age, you will talk to a wall.

Hello, I believe Obama, his spin doctor , Wright and his wife set this whole poor Obama, the victim of a crazy loon who is suffering from post retirement, all of this makes me sick, Wright didn't just wake up two weeks ago and portray this radical Paster, it has obviously been going on for along time, shame on them for thinking the AMERICAN people are ignorant enough to believe this , Obama, his wife and yes his young children sat in that church week after week while from the pulpit Wright encouraged racial tension and American hatred, this was verified by Michelle when she said it was the first time she eas proud to be an American, those of you who are riding the Obama train need to wake up and smell the roses, Obama is not a decent human by his own poor judgement....e.i. Rezko, Ayers and God only knows who else is criminal, this man can't properly lead he's self, family let alone THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Theresa, FL.

2008-04-29 22:43:41 ET

Wake up, America!!! Does Obama and Wright think we are all a bunch of FOOLS? Nobody can convince me that Obama and Wright are not in constant communication with one another, and that that the contents of Wright's "shows" over the week-end and on Monday were not already fully known by Obama. It is a deliberate ploy to make it seem like Obama is disavowing Wright in order to get elected. If Obama becomes President, he and Wright will become best pals once again. I fear very much for the future of this country and there will be HELL and REPARATION to pay for the American people. GET WISE NOW!! I know from experience as a Political Science major that politics is a fool's game and that the average citizen would be appalled if they knew even 10% of the shady deals and out right criminal activities that are covered up in the name of politics. There are good men and women out there who are elected to offices and do a good job. But sometimes one bad apple DOES spoil the whole barrel. Obama has a hidden agenda and we all will truly be fools if we allow him to be elected as President of the United States.

Obama was shocked, but he was shocked that Wright admitted that Obama's game is strictly political and he does and will say whatever is necessary to become President, that he plays to the audience he is in front of like a cameleon and his performace in San Francisco supports my conclusion. Thus "I am shocked," is yet another political game. Next he will want to sell us choice acreage in the middle of a swamp in Florida!

Amanda, I have an honest question that I would like to ask. Obama is ethnically mixed. When I was young (in the 60's), ethnically mixed people were rejected by both whites and blacks. When did ethnically mixed people become accepted as black? (You may not be old enough to know but just thought I could ask because I missed the transition.)

Jill
2008-04-29 22:44:24 ET

I think Rev. Wright groomed Obama from day one. I don't know what happened, but something went wrong between them. I would also like to say as an American, I don't look at Rev. Wright as a pastor or a black man. I was angry, about the comments he made about our country and our government. I don't feel it has anything to do with his occupation or that he is black: after all we are all AMERICANS! AREN'T WE ?

Obama has finally shown the American people his true nature. How can you attend a church for 20 years, listen to the same pastor and claim 20 years later you didn't have a clue about his beliefs. If you believe that pack of BS I really have some land to sell you.

Obama hates this country and you can see it in his face. He and Michelle are about the most arrogrant people I've seen.

Obama will have to prove to me through his actions that he truly loves and respects America. He has to respect and honor our flag by saluting it when the National Athem is played. He has to salute the flag and repeat the Pledge of Alligence. He has to wear a lapel Flag pin to show that he truly is a true American. And finally, he has to swear on the Holy Bible his allegience to God and America.

I'm an Independent Voter and thank God, we have a Republican to vote for.

This is for Patty, yes you are right about African Americans killing each other, but let me tell you something, you know nothing about the real reason and it is staring you in the face with the Obama Wright situation, it is hatred of blacks for the success of some other blacks, and it is sad for us all, and all black churches do not preach hatred, you don't know what you are talking about. Have you ever attended a black church? please do not be so quick to believe all you hear and so quick to judge. Reverend Wright is on the extreme end.

Senator Obama is upset because he was founded out to be a liar and dishonest. Only the MSM wanted him to denounce Rev Wright and Obama accommodated their demands. The American people do not need a president who is governed by polls, and television ratings. Obama will now surely reap what he has sowed. Obama is a con-artist and before long, thousands of his followers will be put to further public humilation and shame. Obama has also put the AA community into a divide that will show up on election day in NC and Indiana.

I do not believe Obama is sincere. I believe he is a calculating snake-oil salesman who has had his eye on the prize for many, many years and now has to face his ghosts. He was not counting on Wright's ego... but hopes that we are dumber than what we are.

Obama had two things to bring to the table, "change" and "judgement." Well, now that your "judgement" has proved to be a joke, the only "change" I'm seeing is the "change" you're doing to try to save your political life. TYPICAL LIBERAL, AIN'T GONNA WORK THIS TIME!

It's really hard for me to believe someone could attend a church for this length of time and not be aware of their pastors views. How could we ever trust him as our President to make sound decisions when dealing with leaders through out our world. Our country is in bad shape and this is the best we can do to find a potential leader of our country?

2008-04-29 22:48:21 ET

To Xavier,

Of course there is racism in America - Rev. Wright is a prime example. There are racists on both sides. It's 2008 and both black and white people need to move forward. Do black men get pulled over more by the police? Yes. Are black people still denied housing in America? Yes. It will not get better, Xavier, by having the Rev. Wrights out there spewing the same hate that they've received.

Martin Luther King Jr. was the best example of how to advance the black community to equal status in this country. He is the man responsible for advancing civil rights in this country. Not Malcolm X, not Louis Farrakhan - peaceloving, forgiving, intelligent, and nonhateful and nonviolent Martin Luther King Jr. So many streets named after him are filled with crime - that's a travesty.

Jeff, I am a true moderate. I voted for Bush #1 and Bush #2, and Gore and Arnold. I am not a puppet that is spoon-fed by party affiliation and media hype that I read in this thread. I'm a true undecided voter right now - all three candidates should be viewed by how they can help the USA and the global community. Even McCain is not concerned with this issue.

This is what you get when you jump on the band wagon of an empty suit whose greatest accomplishment to date is a speech at a convention. Then the problem was compounded when the media jumped on the obama band wagon because they couldn't hold their nose and accept the inevitable hillary anymore, so they didn't properly vet obama and just looked the other way---wright has been a story for over a year and now they can't avoid the issue anymore====sorry to late

Good Evening

I do believe that the issue between Pastor Wright and Senator Obama will encroach on the Black Vote during this election. I have from the begining been a Hillary Clinton Supporter. It is unfortunate that Obama can not focus on the campaign; however, I do not believe that Senator Obama's comments did not mirror his true thoughts. Senator Obama stated that he was outraged and had never heard Pastor Wright verbalize those types of comments before. I believe that Pastor Wright has demonstrated this type of behavior and demeanor during the twenty years that Senator Obama was a memebr of his church. For Senator Obama to state that he is shocked; I believe is an untrue statement. Obama made the statement this evening for political reasons only. How can anyone support one who does not have a stance of conviction but one who has a stance of verbal appeasement.

In the end, it appears as though Pastor Wright was upset due to Senator Obama distancing himself from association of him and he then made comments that he knew would affect Senator's Obama's campaign. I believe that Senator Obama knew of Pastor Wrights beliefs but did not anticipate on Pastor Wright verbalizing them publically. Senator Obama then verbalized his frustration. I believe that this issue will continue unfortunately.

Thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion.

Obama has to come out and try to make the American people think that he is seperating himself from Wright, but this could all be a big front. Obama and Wright may be playing ever one for a fool. Hoping every one will fall for their play acting. They both hate America. As well as Mrs. Obama. Obama said that he put his hand on a Bible when he was sworn in, well it was the Koran, or what ever he calls it. He calls that a bible. That is what the Moslems call their sacred book. It's not God's Word that is in the good old King James, or one of the other translation. Wise up America. Obama can not become our next President.

obama is a politician that is a member of one of chicago's prominent black churches. The way you get things done is to align with groups of powerful people and organizations whether you believe in all of their policies or not. Reverend wright is a very powerful minister and a very respected person worldwide which makes it hard to defend against.

What are we so concerned about? What can Obama do to this country that
Clinton didn't do when he was President. Let's start with letting Bin Laden go.
How about leaving our Armed Forces in disarray. How about the China
connection - strange guests sleeping in the Lincoln Room.which we still don't know much about it. How about Monica Lewinsky, pardoning criminals, etc, etc. How about impeachment.
We wink, wink and elect him again as Co-President all the while non-electing
someone because of guilt by association. Double standards, You bet!! Why?
Every individual American must search their heart and answer that question
for themselves. In many cases, I think I know the answer!!!

Obama is a politician, what he did today is what politicians do. When they no longer have use for some one, or when some one damages their chances for political office, they distance themselves. Obama does not have good judgement, or he would have gotten out of the church a long....long....time ago. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has noticed how angry Obama's wife looks. 2008-04-29 22:54:22 ET

I believe Obama and Wright worked out this ploy so Obama could use the excuse that he really didn't know the extend of Wrights anger and disloyality to America and the extend Wright would go using the Black Chuch and racisim as a justification for such outragious comments. Now Obama can say he realizes the extend that Wright will go to and a feeling if disloyality to himself personally. I believe it was all planned or why would Wright may himself look like such a JASKASS aagin.

It is unfortunate that Obama's supporters have to assess this issue in correlation to their continued support.

Barack Obama knew quite well what his Pastor's beliefs are and have been for the twenty years....he thought he could have both worlds and it has backfired.....thank God. All the money George Soros etc. have cannot buy Obama's way out of this mess. I watched and carefully listened to Obama's speech today......his words were perfunctory and one could see that he was quite miserable having to say them. He is in a catch 22 situation. Should he lose the nomination he will go back to Trinity and Rev. Wright....I truly believe Obama loves the man and his ministry. I think Barack is basically a decent man who truly has Christian values. However, he had the opportunity to choose a different church for over 16 years and chose not to do so.
I have watched him speak many times and admired his speaking abilty and eloquence.
I did notice during his denouncement speech of Reverand Wright that he was looking down and seeming to struggle with getting his words out.

with husaine obamas "great" judgement of people and people's character, the last place i want to picture him sitting is the oval office in janurary or anytime for that matter, unless of course he is interviewing for a cabinet position for mccaine. that may make me a racist i dont know.and another thing , i am religious and if my preacher ever, ever put down the best nation in the world or said G.D. anywhere for any reason but especially on the pulpit or girated his hips that would be the last dealings we would have. reverand wright (i will be referring to him as reverand WRONG) in my my opinion since i am intitled to it is a disgrace to ANY,Amarican, political, religious orginization black white yellow green orange. (at least i made him happy by putting black first) , and who ever sits in the building with him service after service and eats up the B.S. that he is feeding them is just as much a disgrace and anti-amarican as him. they should be ashamed to have him as a "christian" leader and i can barely stand calling him a christian or even a leader for that matter. leaders are supposed to be positive roll models for the folks they are leading .just think about the children in the audience listing to rev. Wrong's racial rants about aids and whatever else . Why not teach children the real real causes of aids like drugs, unprotected sex,and homosexuality .things that are considered blastfomy according to the bible .(no not in a church that would be too far out of the ordinary) people such as reverand Wrong have 1 major problem teaching from the Bible::::: rather than it forwarding his views and beliefs it forwards Gods belief which is something we need more of in this country. Not the views of some guy who is preaching against racism with racism.you dont pour gas on a fire to put it out . Or in this day in age we dont need people preaching anti-amarica, we have plenty of that from the middle east and other parts of the world for that matter . how do you expect to be one or overcome when you have such nonsense goin on. as far as im concerned he is just as good as osama bin ladin . reverand Wrong is as anti amarican as bin ladin he look at everyone who doesnt bend over and kiss his A@@ or agree with his views as infadels. as far as im concerned he is the biggest racist, infadel, and P.O.S. there is . But all this being said i thank God everyday for amarica, for being born an amarican, for our ansestors ,no matter what they did wrong in the past , who fought in great wars to give us liberty and freedom .and i want thank fox news Greta, Bill and hannity YOU ARE ALL GREAT AMARICANS.listen to hannity on the radio every chance i get. watch all of yalls shows every chance get . Oh and If I ever run for public office I will be sure to tell someone in my life circle to go public and act and talk like a big fool and make every one angry at me by association, and make a fool of me and themselves, stir up racial tensions and then we can laugh afterwards, I am very afraid of some people out there after reading some of these posts.

Why is it when he doesn't say anything people are against him Obama and when he speaks about being upset and wronged by Rev.Wright the same people are still against him. I'am confused. This is my third time voting in a presidential election and I feel that some people are letting the press sway their votes. They are not paying attention to the facts. The news does not always state fact. So listen to each candidate and their views on how to fix the economy, health care, outrageous gas prices, higher grocery bills, and american'[s keeping there homes. whats wrong with all of you who are stuck on or side tracked by this Rev. I really think Barack thought the Rev would go quietly into the night as a pastor who cares about his flock would. Even after watching all the sound bits on different news I was shocked at the Rev's remarks yesterday. Unless you have attended a large church I don't think you can fully understand that as a member you may not know exactly what your pastor is made of until put to the test. In that size of a church you don't even know everyone let alone sup with the Pastor. Somehow I really can't see any of my Black friends staying in a church that the sermons are so full of hate and indignation. I live in NC and Barack was here today and I felt he was sincere, shocked and saddened by this whole thing. The one thing he should not have had to worry about was his pastor making him out to be a goverment hating racist. I feel sorry for him. His spokeman said he had watched the replay of the Rev's speech and it had to of hit him hard that this man, a man of God, who performed his wedding as he probably did hundred others, baptized his children and he had hundred others could speak such vile and venom and personally attack him. No, he was sincere in his response and it showed in his countenance. I am a republican and a white female but that is what I saw in this man and I felt he was dismayed. I hope the Rev just goes away and the people of his church rally around Barak and his family. The congregation needs to demand a refund on the tithes they have paid and stop the building of that 10 million dollar mansion.

Obama was basically told what to say and when to say it... Like Rev. Wright said, he's a politician. Senator Obama has mischaracterized Rev. Wright's background and youth when Wright was better off than many Americans.
Rev. Wright was on his campaign's Spiritual Advisory Committee and then booted off but Senator Obama couldn't disown his "uncle" no more than he could his typical white grandmother.

Senator Obama says on a daily basis what will play well with his audience. This latest trick speech shows once again a terrible lack of judgement he has and it's not the type of leadership we should settle for.

Senator Clinton or Senator McCain has my vote!

I feel as if Obama has brought this upon himself, he should have and could have stepped away/denounce him from the first speech he gave. Better yet he could have join another church along time ago. Now, Rev Wright who knows him better than any of us is attacking him and trying to speak for him and Black America. Well, news Flas!!!!! Black America isn't Rev Wright, and Rev Wright isn't Black America. He's just one person with some serious issues that need to be dealt with.

To Susie's comments above--Fox News is very 'fair and balanced' and allow folks like you and me to share our thoughts. What does the color of his mother and grandmothers skin have to do with anything? What grandmother is going to speak poorly of her grandson? Does he attend a white church? No, he prefers to attend a black church. There's nothing wrong with that choice except for the fact that he chose a church and minister who clearly hates whites and jews and any other culture that does not share his (Rev Wrights) views. Barrack Obama reaches out to the black side of his family, the side that played a small role in raising, nurturing teaching and loving him. The black community has placed him on a pedestal and will support him regardless of his attachment to Rev Wright. It's not about who has the best experience or qualifications to run this country, it's ALL about skin color and nothing more. Barack Obama is as big a RACIST as his wife and his pastor --but sharing his true feelings would end his run for President and he knows it... Hopefully white america sees through all of the SMOKE AND MIRRORS!!!

Thank you Bruce Peck, you are so right and a refreshing voice of reason, Reverend Wright is pastor of a very large church and most of his congregation probably likes to see him clown and go there for his dramatic and showy style and antics. He is a buffoon and Mr. Obama probably ignored that stupid side of him. We all have a friend like that and we blow them off as harmless, much to the Chagrin of Mr. Obama

Why are the blacks following Obama? He was raised by a white mother, and a white grandmother and white grandfather in white states (Hawaii and Kansas). He went to school at mostly white schools. He is as transparent as a clear piece of glass...... It is politically expedient to be "black" now.

first of all..hawaii is not a "white state!and just cause Barak's mom is white does not make him white. and why can't i as a black man support a black candidate?the past 43 presidents were white so i guess i should follow that status qou?ignorant people like you are what's wrong with this country!!

I am not an Obama supporter. I am a Clinton supporter; however,
Despite Obama's heritage, doesn't mean that he can not identify with the Black Race, White race, Hispanic Race or any other Race. Obama's heritage, doesn't mean that Blacks can not support him. Ones' race has nothing to do with a canidates ability to affectively run this country in the best interest of ALL AMERICANS.

and another thing ive not seen in the king james bible anything about a "black church" ive only been taught there is the lord's church .read it youll see.blasfomy...youre not supposed to add to take from gods word to fit political or personal agenda or fulfillment. the lords church is for white people, black people, yellow people ,pink people, green people big people, little people . the bible makes no distinguishing description of who can follow the word , in fact i think it commands everyone to .

If I planned to vote for Obama, I would have to question how a man could sit in church for 20 years and never hear the "message" he was being fed. If he ends up in the White House, God help us all as he will never HEAR or ABSORB anything about running this country.

THEY WILL VOTE FOR A BLACK KNOWING THEY ARE RACIST BECAUSE IT PUTS THEM IN CONTROL AND THEY WANT CONTROL OF THE 80% WHITE PEOPLE MAJORITY'S MONEY, POWER, AND RESOUCES TO EXPLOIT THE WHITE RACE AND ALL THAT AMERICA STANDS FOR. THEY HATE WHITES AND ALWAYS HAVE....LISTEN TO THEM CHANT WHEN WRIGHT SPEAKS. HE IS A MUSLIM...THE SAME AS OBAMA. THE MORE HE SPEAKS ABOUT HATE THE MORE THEY ENJOY HIS BOLDNESS AND LUDICROUS STAEMENTS. IT IS HOW THEY ALL FEEL. BLACKS ARE GOING BACK 200 YEARS AND THIS IS THEIR SECOND COMING OF SLAVERY BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT THE MASTERS OF THEIR OWN MIND. WHEN ONE OF THEM MOVES TO THE LEFT, THEY ALL MOVE. Why didn't Obama divorce his Reverend sooner, because he uses Rev. Wright and the churches to gain his political career. Rev. Wright has a big influence on the black people and its churches. That's why he can't disown Rev. Wright due to the fact that he'll loss all the black supporter. Obama is not a thrustworthy. To me Obama is like a monster that hide in an angle suit. He uses as many people as he can for his own best interest. I feel bad for those who support Obama that didn't know that they're being used. I wonder what is Obama religion prior to 1992? Muslim, maybe?

Hello Amanda

I respect your comments concerning Hillary Clinton; however, I don't agree. It is astonishing to me that you are a Lady but you have made a demeaning remark in general pertaining to women as evidence of saying the following: SHE IS A WOMAN(TALK ABOUT BITCHINESS IN THE WHITE HOUSE) EVERY TIME SHE DOESN'T GET HER WAY THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES ARE GONNA HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.
Even if you do not support her as a canidate, please do not degrade or demean her as a woman. There continues to be a double standard between men and women. When men are direct, he is assertive. When a woman is direct, she is a bitch, aggressive or has an attitude. Women have made a stance to overcome many issues including the following: not being considered property of their husbands, voting rights , owning property of their own, disbanding the rule of thumb that allowed husbands to beat their wives if the rod was no larger than their thumb. expressing ideas and being able to make choices, having equal pay etc...

Respectfully,

I seems that people are just wanting and waiting for an excuse to disavow support of Obama. It seems that only Obama is receiving so much guilt by mere association. This country consistently forgives, or even ignores those negative associations that existed among "white" politicians, even associations of those politicians who were outright and outspoken "racists."

This incessant emphasis on Obama's guilt by association is very suspect and suspicious to me. I believe there may be other forces at play here. I know that sounds very "conspiracy theory," but the timing and circumstances are suspect to me. Not just simply, as you all would love to imply, the truth about Obama coming out. I am not Obama supporter, Clinton supporter, or McCain supporter. I want the best damn person for the job! But I will not allow what appears to be sabotage by former or existing associations to influence my decision. I think "white" America is almost relieved that Reverend Wright, has now all but convinced both "black" and "white" America to make the campaign about his "sabotage," I mean rhetoric. I think "black" America is very upset but to show commitment to "getting along" in America, will go ahead and agree. Just watch the news, especially Fox. I wonder who else is behind this Reverend Wright charade who had a hand in writing the script to give it 15 minutes of fame at the expense of highly qualified candidate. It's too suspicious.

Regardless of Obama's remarks in the past or present concerning his views on Reverend Wright, regardless of whether Reverend Wright had even become an issue, the question asked and comments made at the dinner table, behind closed doors, around the card table, in the private meeting rooms, at the barber shop, at the office, etc. is "do I really want a 'black' man running my country?" or "I'll be damned if I let a 'black man' determine the future of America." I see and hear it in the faces and voices around me, even through the politically correct bulls@%t. It's disturbing. But, that's the history of the United States. What happened to the focus on change? I think most people, mostly baby boomers and older, don't really want change be it Obama or Hillary that ends up winning the Democratic Presidential candidacy.

Regardless of whether you want change or not, this Country is going to change.

Good Evening
I do believe that the issue between Pastor Wright and Senator Obama will encroach on the Black Vote during this election. It is unfortunate that Obama can not focus on the campaign; however, I do not believe that Senator Obama's comments mirrored his true thoughts. Senator Obama stated that he was outraged and had never heard Pastor Wright verbalize those types of comments before. I believe that Pastor Wright has demonstrated this type of behavior and demeanor during the twenty years that Senator Obama was a member of his church. Obama made the statement this evening for political reasons only. How can anyone support one who does not have a stance of conviction for 20 years but one who has a stance of verbal appeasement. In the end, it appears as though Pastor Wright was upset due to Senator Obama distancing himself from association of him. I believe that Senator Obama knew of Pastor Wrights beliefs but did not anticipate on Pastor Wright verbalizing them publically.

First you people wanted Obama to denounce Rev.Wright. Now that he have done this you want something else. You Obama Haters will never be happy
no matter what he does. Can someone tell me how can he be racist when he
half white himself. It is ashame that you people, that is white would deny your
own color, just because he has some black in him,if you understand what I am
saying. Unless this is to over you people heads. I am saying that Obama is half black and half white but because some people hate that he is black they will deny the white in him and is that the reason you people
will not believe anything that he says. Obama is not denouncing
wright for just political reasons. Wright was just wrong for the way he has being displaying himself. Not for no other reason, but if he does Hilliary and
McCain have done the same thing. What are you people afraid of if we get
A black man as a President we have had white men forever you guys think that it is only a white person Job. Black people trusted a white person forever.

Well let's see.
Mr. Obama joined his church as a polictical move. HINT HINT
Mr. Obama sat in the pew for over 20 years , had Rev. Wright marry him, baptize his children, dedicated a book to him, called him his mentor and made comparision to him as an old uncle, and prayed with him before he announced his run for president.
Oh here is the definition of mentor in case anyone doesn't know how to look it up:
Mentor-1. a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.
2. an influential senior sponsor or supporter.

Rev. Wright spews hatred against America and talks in generalities suggesting all white people feel this way some of it had to rub off on Sen. Obama because he called the grandmother who loved, raised, and paid a substancial amount of money to insure that he went to a private school a "typical white woman".

Seems to me that there is more of a relationship than what Mr. Obama is alluding to now. Now Mr. Obama is outraged by the comments. HAHAHA What a joke. Rev. Wright maybe far left in his thinking but he speaks his mind. Sen. Obama is a politician and says what he has to as a politician. CHANGE? No this seems more of the same. So Sen. Obama is a POLITICIAN who has the gift of GAB!

And now that he is LOSING he will say anything to WIN. HINT HINT JUST LIKE ANY POLITICIAN!!!!
Including throwing away the mentor and pastor whom he dedicated a book to!
Seems like your ordinary run of the mill politician to me.

Mr. Rivera
2008-04-29 23:48:49 ET

I think the Rev. Wright's motive's need to be question---what does he have to gain by destroying Obama....Hmmmmmmmmmm-funny huh ----I think we need to keep a close eye on rev. wright the next couple of weeks or months....mansion today,,,,car, yaght, tv show, movie, more money and political attention to lure more members to his church.....that equals to more money to be made.....People dont get fooled by the smoke screen...dont get derailed on purpose......let just wait and see.....

Even if it is unfounded, absurd, or backwards make it compelling. Or stay buried. I restate the emphasis on mere association. Rev Wright, I believe, made 3 comments viewed as controversial, at least thats all the clips I seen run in a loop. I think those statements were unpatriotic, I failed to see the racism some suggest. Now if he'd been making those statements for 20 years where are the witnesses to this? surely you can provide 1 to support your claim, but you haven't which mean you can't. It only boost your arguments against Senator Obama to say it happen without having proof. Now Mr. Wright spoke at the NAACP, those comments weren't very controversial, However the Press event he with beyond controversial, dancing, signifying and even being rude to the host, called Obama a liar in so many words, and Mr. Obama did what many of us have been asking him to do for some time, and that includes Fox News. I applaud him, though I know you still condemn him. You far right wing conservatives aren't gonna vote for him anyway, you rather have John McCain, although you'd prefer someone else, but you're stuck with him, so what the hell, another 100 years in Iraq, Thousands of dead young men in women, Trillion in debt, a failng economy and housing market, health care cost threw the roof, gas 4 bucks a gallon and rising, substandard public schools, unemployment growing.....oh yea all this under a right winged replubican administration. The more I research because I try to be an informed voter the more I find that alarms me about him. The bills that he supposedly wrote were written by others but he was allowed to sign his name to them. His friendships with questionable people alarm me. Media forgets that he is a white man too who was raised by white people. I feel that he another politicain with the gift of gab and not what this country needs to fix the mess that it is in. I vote experience to get us back to the America that we can be proud of!

He has no dirt because the media didn't do its job for fear of being called racist ( as his campaign has been so easy to do even if the comment soen't warrent it)
How about Ayers and Rezko, can you buy a mansion for half price? How about putting his name to bill he didn't write? How about 30,000 to a church that is racist and you can't deny that Let one of the white candidates attend a church that condemns blacks like Rev. Wright has. In my opinion, Church is for religion not politics. Christ promoted love and even equality but not his church.

And no it is not irrelevent what he heard in those pews! Obama wants to be president of America and sat and listen to hate filled propaganda and he didn't LEAVE, that is relevent to me! It is relevent that he may have heard Rev. Wright sermon about 911. That in my opinion is a total disrespect for all the people who lost their lives that day. Those were people going to work to feed their families. The victims were someones fathers, mothers, sons, daughers, and friends. Heartless is what I call it.
Ok Xavier, tell me why did Obama suddenly drop him from the program? Because he knew he was going to be a liabitlity thats why. So he had the B*lls to sit in the pew for 20 years but not the B*lls to stand beside Rev. Wright when the crap hit the fan. I too if I was Rev. Wright would be pissed. As I am sure that Rev. All of a sudden, after 20 years and in the middle of a presidential campaign, he decides that Wright says the wrong things?? The venom Rev Wright has been spitting over the last few weeks, couldn't have happened over-night. I find it hard to believe that these comments were never uttered in the presence of Sen Obama over the "past 20 years". This candidate has more than likely been affected by this man.

THE FUNDAMENTAL FOCUS OF CHRISITAN BELIEFS ARE "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR". IF OBAMA WAS AT A TRUE CHRISTIAN CHURCH HE WOULD KNOW THAT HATE IS WRONG. HE SPENT 26,000 DOLLARS LAST YEAR TO SUPPORT THIS CHURCH THAT FOLLOWS "BLACK LIBERATION POLICIES"
WRIGHT QUOTES THIS MAN OFTEN. SEE WHAT THEY STAND FOR:
The following is from James Cone, the father of "Black Liberation Theology":

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."
NO BLACK CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN DETROIT WOULD PREACH SUCH HATRED.
OBAMA IS A BIGOT. HE KNOWS WHAT HIS CHURCH REPRESENTS.

I also agree that you can speak out against the goverment. THAT IS WHY WE ARE AMERICAN and EVERYONE HATES US! But what I don't agree with is usiing the guise of a church to spew your hate filled views. I don't agree that if you want to be president of the US you shoud SIT IN THAT PEW!! I also don't agree that if Sen. Obama is such a smart and intellegent man that he wouldn't have seen this as being used against him.So how smart is he really. As he only joined the church for political reason -his words well did he think that maybe the message of that church should have been something that he should have consider if he had aspirations of one day becoming president!

How many times do you think that when they were together they talked about the same things Mr. Wright's talking about. I believe Obama is now backpeddling and trying to see if anyone will believe him....not me! He can't even pick his head up and look straight into the press camera's without looking guilty. This is a great example of showing our children - you are identified by who you choose to surround yourself with.

There is no question that Obama is a smart and exciting candidate - however because of HIS choices of whom he chose to associate himself with, he may lose the nomination of his party.

It is obvious he is frustrated, but he must not point fingers at others - he is the one that chose to continue this 'relationship' over the past 20 years.

-------

As for Hillary - did anyone notice that when she was running for Senate and as a current Senator she went by Hillary 'Rodham' Clinton - then when she started out her campaign for President she went by 'Hillary' - and then when she started losing support, she started going by Hillary Clinton.

Just an interesting observation.

Krista
2008-04-30 01:46:22 ET

Did he know about the stuff Wright said before Obama started running for office? WHO F*CKING CARES? Wright isn't the one running, Obama is. Obama hasn't done anything whatsoever to suggest that he believes or endorses any of the things this wacko pastor has said, so get on board with Bill O'Reilly, people! Give the man a break! It seems clear that Pastor Wright originally brought Obama to his faith, and if any of you people ACTUALLY go to church, you'd know that a church doesn't revolve exclusively around the head pastor.. The congregation plays a role, the outside ministries of the church as well as other ministers within the church are equally as important. And, heh, clarification.. People continue to criticize Obama for "allowing his girls to sit in the pews while Wright was speaking etc.." This tells me that NOBODY HERE REALLY GOES TO CHURCH! Obama's girls would have been in SUNDAY SCHOOL, just as I was as a little girl, being taught Bible verses and playing games while memorizing scripture. Kids don't sit in the main congregation, DUH!

So, as it appears that Obama's faith was quite important to him, it seems that he was reluctant to denounce Wright because 20 years ago, Wright was the one who inspired Obama's search for salvation. But people can change, and (as he's gotten older) Wright may have gone a bit off his rocker in the last decade. That's not Obama's fault; as a person who actually GOES to church, I understand how Obama could still feel attached to Wright as the instigator of his own salvation- but now, I think Obama has realized that there's no excuse for this guy and he has to cut him loose, pastor or not. Whether or not Obama realized during the last decade that the head pastor was going a bit off is absolutely irrelevant. Associate pastors could have preached wonderful sermons that he and his wife enjoyed. He participated in prison mininstries with the church and other outreach, and his girls probably enjoyed their Sunday School program (where they would not have ever heard Wright speak; keep that in mind.) So he didn't want to uproot his family from the congregation and ministries they were now used to, despite the fact that the head pastor might occasionally say some weird things (And keep in mind that Wright wasn't the one speaking every Sunday- In a church that large, they've got several associate pastors alternating the weekly message). That's the plausible scenario in which he did realize that Wright was saying some crazy stuff. But as Obama has said, he really didn't hear these totally offensive things in church and wanted to give Wright the benefit of the doubt, but now Wright's on a rampage and it's inexcusable. He did say that he knew Wright to be a rather firey preacher- I can tell that one from watching Wright's greatest hits being looped on TV. Obama saw the Rolling Stone quotes that caused him to think twice about having Wright as a speaker for an event. But it's very easily possible that in the early years of his churchgoing, such inflammatory statements were not being made, and out of reverence for the pastor that brought him to God, Obama did not want to throw him under the bus in the public sphere.

But now he can't avoid it; Wright's undone himself and Obama's got to make it clear that the guy is a kook who doesn't represent his campaign. Regardless of any of this, Obama hasn't done anything yet to suggest that he believes any of the things Wright had to say, whether he heard them or not! That's the important issue- not whether he "heard" Wright say any of this BS, but whether he believes any of it! Now Hillary, on the other hand, has already flat-out lied in public about Bosnian sniper fire that never happened; Obama hasn't done anything of the sort to question his character, and neither has McCain.

Let's get over the stupidities of Wright and back on track to the REAL issues in this election.

You in the media have had a great time breaking a man that can finally make a difference in America. You are also proving that unless you are a part of the politics as usual you will probably be torn apart, not by the candidate opposing you, but by the media. Why aren't you asking questions of Senator Clinton about Bills behavior and why she is still with him? Also, they have made a fortune since leaving office, a considerable amnount of this is from foreign countries, WHY? You will probably do like most of the media and ruin Obama's chances in the primary Tuesday then say oh well we were wrong, and again it will be too late.

Okay the 20years of hate statement. I seriously doubt Rev Wright feed his congregation a continous diet of hate for 20 years... I don't believe Barack or 9,999 other memebers would have sat still for that. If that were the case, there would be more clips running in a loop. The clips we're seen were all within the past 1-2yrs, Barack has been on the campiagn trail most of this time and would not have been there to hear these statements. I found the GD amercia statement offensive and Mr. Wright needs to ask white and black america for forgiveness. The chickens coming home to roost was also inappropriate and hurt to most of us, white and blacks alike. I didn't see any racist statments, or atleast any that offended my senseabilities. I don't believe the Trinty church is about hate. I believe its more about uplifting black people... people that have suffered here in america...told they are inferior, ugly, dumb... and worth less than a dog. Kill a dog and go to prison...kill a black man and get a pass. To be candid.. when I'm with my black friends yes we talk about white people...as I'm sure white people do the same. I don't know anyone that hates white people because they're white... I know good white people and bad ones too, just as I know good black people and bad ones. I judge people by what they do, not what they say, because even your friends will lie to you.

Wright and Obama are both narcissistic, just two different types. Obama gets his feelings of superiority by being chosen by men he admires and sees as powerful (dad), Wright gets fed by being the chooser. Obama has eclipsed Wright now, and Wright's fragile ego has been wounded. Wright struck out at Obama, which wounded Obama's fragile ego. He then immediately had to call an entire press conference to discuss HIS hurt feelings, HIS betrayal, and to tell the world that what angered him most was what "Wright said about ME." He's not upset about the anti-American comments, the racist comments Wright has made. No. He's most angry about what Wright said about HIM, personally, and he thinks that is more important than Iraq, the economy, or any of the concerns of the American people he COULD have given a speech about. They are both self-absorbed, power-hungry, fragile little boys.

You need to read wikipedia a little further you might see... "He had an olive-tinted complexion, "the color of wheat." One Publius Lentulus is supposed to have described him as perfectly beautiful in features, with "hazel-coloured" hair that flowed to his shoulders, and a forked beard. His eyes continually "change their color." Epiphanius Monachus provides a similar description, in which Jesus is six feet tall, golden haired, with black eyebrows, light brown eyes and swarthy skin "like David's."

George, No one could have done better, and none of the current crop will do better. The current crop will make things bad, not good like they are now. Well, good at least for hard working, tax paying citizens that do not take welfare or food stamps or other so called entitlements. If our welfare, food stamps sucking parasitic leeches would actually realize they are NOT entitled to anything free, we could save 1.17 trillion a year. heres a wikipedia paste for you:

While the term racism usually denotes race-based prejudice, violence, discrimination, or oppression, the term can also have varying and hotly contested definitions. Racialism is a related term, sometimes intended to avoid these negative meanings. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each racial group possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another racial group or racial groups. The Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular racial group, and that it is also the prejudice based on such a belief. The Macquarie Dictionary defines racism as: "the belief that human races have distinctive characteristics which determine their respective cultures, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others."[citation needed]

George, .... color doesn't enter into it. If you can't feed your kids, you don't deserve to have them. The kids will get fed, clothed and sheltered, but if you are physically sound, between the ages of 19 and 65, you shouldn't get anything free, for any reason ever. If this means the children you can't care for go to foster homes, GOOD, their lives will be better getting away from the human scum that brought them into the world.

Increasing the demand for american workers will result in more competition for labor, thus higher wages. More companies producing goods here at home..means more competition among retailer..and guess what lower prices

Fair enough. George you need to listen and open up your F*ckin ears. Stop living in fantasy land and believing that crap, you duche bag. Competition among workers??? Are you serious? Do you have any idea how hard it is to employ american workers? Every time you turn around they are on strike for some reason or another. I am all about the american worker too, but i think sometimes we demand too much for the skills we offer. Baggage handlers going on strike, ticket prices go up, pilots go on strike, ticket prices go up, gas goes up, bankruptcy follows. Give me a break.. wake up george and get your F*ckin head out of your @ss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My point is American had the best manufacturing base in the world, and we've shipped so many jobs overseas for cheap labor, often times child labor, with little enviormental standards. We have a responsiblity to keep our country strong, both millitarily and ecomonically for the next generations. Its not going to be easy, but sacrifices must be made now before its to late.

It's a mess. I don't know how it can easily get fixed. I hate to say it but I rather enjoyed the economy under bill clinton. I don't think Obama can do it. I do think Hillary may be able to pull it out, but she comes with her fair share of problems also.

George
2008-04-30 06:54:41 ET

The years Bill Clinton were okay...at least we had a budget surplus. But even though Hillary would be President, giving them a second bite at the apple, maybe a chance we shouldn't take. The past 20+ years theres been a Bush or a Clinton in the White House. I'd like to see us go in a different direction. Yes Obama will have to prove himself, and I don't believe he's joined at the hip to Rev. Wright, but I feel he should be given a fair chance. He seems to have some good ideas, and is willing to ask for the opinions of others... which is a good thing... no has all the right answers, but a willingness to work towards a common goal goes a long way

George
2008-04-30 07:00:50 ET

Not to mention Hillary wants to mandate health care for everyone. I disagree with that approach. Baracks plan gives people the option to join or not. I like having a choice, thats basic to the principles of Freedom

O'Reilly States Obama DOesn't Believe Wrights View

Bill O'Reilly keeps cutting off people who starting saying anything in the negative category about Obama. He stated on Fox & Friends this a.m. THAT HE KNOWS that Obama DOES NOT believe the view of Wright. NOW O'Reilly is a mind reader. He's starting to really get irritating. He USED to be fair and balanced and it seems that now the fact the factor is such a hit, which he mentions every week or 2, he's getting to be UNFAIR and BALANCED.

CARLOS has some very valid points. Look at the auto industry and all the strikes. Does person have to make $30 an hour and get the benefits all paid for. That means the cost of the vehicle goes up. We bought a 2000 dodge ram for about $30,000 in 2000 and now its about $50,000 +. How many people can afford that. We always, now, buy used vehicles because of the price of new and the gas mileage. We own our business. We pay our employees well, but can't keep raising wages. We have competitors who hire kids to do the work and pay than cheap wages. You just can't compete. There has to be a limit. If people would show some responsiblity with their spending we could and would be more competitive. Its just common sense. I'll tell you this, AS a consumer, if we STOP bringing goods over here and if the cost is too high of the products here in the USA I STILL won't be able to afford that item and WON'T buy it. I'll stick with what I have, buy used, AND we do grow a lot of our own produce. I've worked for unions and for non-union people. THey can be good and bad. The unions rake in tons of money on their own, at the expense of the worker. My husband got screwed badly by his union!

after reading some of the comments from readers regarding the obama/wright issue and the media coverage of them both over the last several weeks i'd have to say that first obama's remarks to wright's recent rant doesn't clear obama of his association with his rabid pastor of 20+ years and certainly won't stop wright of attacking him, this country and all it stands for. i have to say that both wright and obama have their own agendas and nothing else. all in all, they do nothing to help me or this nation and i'm quit sick of reading/hearing about them both.

OBAMA scares me. Hitler was able to 'charm' the German in his early days. Obama has been a charmer - and indeed he is. And he has tried to ride in on the John F Kennedy legend.

But wait folks - This is NO TIME for an OBAMA.
OUr nation has NEVER been here before and an arrogant OBAMA who has shown his views toward much of our core values is not a good choice.

I have a major question: Obama now refers Wright as his 'former' pastor.
What does that mean? Has Obama taken up with Billy Grahm, or some other major spiritual leader - or is he just saying 'former' as a ploy.....
And once ni the White House I can just see the party / celebration and change of posture with Rev Rev Wright suddenly re-appearing as the White House spiritual counsel... with all kinds of parties and comings and goings.
We have far too much at stake. No time for experiments.
THE REAL ENEMY of US is CHINA and we better get focused.
We have serious problems and OBAMA is NOT experienced enough tocommand the respect of the world that he represents the core fundemental values of our USA. He is a renegade ... with a wife who has never been proud of her nation.
No my friends. Obama is a dangerous message tothe world.
