Town Meeting was good in the time of Deacon George Minot, who argued, I believe, to have the pigs and other animals fenced in so as not to run all
over the Town. People came together to HEAR ALL SIDES of the issues; and
then make an appropriate judgement, for or against, what was discussed.

250+ years later; it ain't working anymore! How many of us hear "Time to join the 21st century" from our fellow Concordians who can't possibly attend every single minute of Town Meeting; not to say some..who can't attend at all..young children at home;
jobs (remember..not all have the luxury to stay up late every night; some
have to get up & go to work & function the next day!) Articles are placed in pre-arranged places...by, guess who???...could it be certain Town Officials would like certain Articles to pass ..."article groupies" come in to vote their
particular concern (sometimes something in their backyard-sometimes not) and leave...zoning articles are placed at the very end; when mostly everyone has gone home. Wasn't
that a surprise when one..favored among "some" of the Selectpeople passed.
At a BOS meeting following this unexpected event; one of Concord's Selectpeople asked the Town Manager if such a zoning article could be placed
in a "better spot" at the next Town Meeting; when more people would be there. Funny, seems to have been originally placed in a spot knowing not
a lot of people would be there..but this time, it backfired!
This is not a game to see.."Where can we put what we want; so we have the
advantage of getting what WE want"..this is a democracy...Hello...the PEOPLE
vote...in voting booths...secret ballot...all issues there..at one time..for ALL.
Eventually, I do believe, Town Meeting WILL come to an end; and
the sun will rise for another day!!!
