Rush said it best today: If McCain starts with this type of politics then every time someone in his campaign says something bad about Obama he will have to stop everything (in terms of the news cycle) and force that person to repudiate their remarks. It would lead to a waste of time and a loss of initiative.
McCain continues to show his true colors. He continues to stick his thunb in the eyes of conservatives. It is time for conservatives to stick our thumb in his eyes. He is still a RINO in every sense of the term.
If McCain denounces the type of attack politics the Clintons have become known for, he can only further his cause. Voters are tired of practitioners of those politics. Conservatives who fail to see that the theme in this election has more to do with changing the tone of politics than with changing government are blind. Fortunately, John McCain, who is a good man, a solid citizen, and a respectable politician, is gaining ground by sticking to his own message, which is a far smarter strategy. Let the Democrats beat each other up. Let them be mean-spirited and sling the mud. We can take the high road and come out smelling like roses.
In the end, it does not matter, because John McCain will not win the election if he becomes the nominee. He is NOT a Conservative, and he is worse than a RINO. I think he's a Democrat who happens to have an (R) beside his name. Remember, he gave us McCain/Feingold (a direct violation of the First Amendment) and voted FOR amnesty for illegal immigrants. What makes ANYONE think he's going to change? He will say whatever he has to, in order to garner the support he needs to win, and then he will do what he's always done. Many years ago, Rush warned us to not listen to what politicians say, but to watch what they do. Well, McCain is not worthy of our vote. We HAVE a true Conservative running, and the MSM and his own party have done everything they can to marginalize him, because he is NOT under their control, and they do NOT want this country to return to Constitutional rule, because that would threaten their power. So, I'm not sure WHO I'll vote for. I DO know who I will NOT vote for. First, I'm not voting for any Democrat (that's a given), but I will also NOT vote for John McCain, and I'm a state delegate (not national, but state). I will no longer vote for a candidate just because they are a Republican. I do NOT subscribe to the philosophy that we have to vote for "our" guy because he's not as bad as "their" guy, or the "my party, right or wrong," approach to politics. No, from now on, the candidate is either worthy of my vote, based on a history of supporting the Constitution, liberty, and smaller government, or they do NOT get my vote. If ALL voters would take this approach (no matter your party affiliation, including none), WE THE PEOPLE could take back this country in two election cycles. WE have the power. It's OUR government. We have to stop letting the tail wag the dog, take back control, and take back our country. It's that easy, or that hard. However, if we do NOT, we're going to lose our country and our liberty. The clock is ticking.
I don't think McCain has a core belief system. He sure is no "conservative" as he loves to say. He's not even a Republican. Here in Arizona, a Recall McCain campaign was in full swing - then 9/11 happened and it got put on the back burner. He's never been popular with the Republican party. He has worked against all state immigration-related bills in AZ. He micro-manages. He's a full out open borders, pro-illegal alien liberal. He's only lived in AZ since 1980 - a border state with a heck of a problem with illegal aliens - and he doesn't represent the people on this issue. He works AGAINST us every time. He's a little dictator who has never held a job and suffers from white guilt. Why else would his best bud be Ted Kennedy. I cannot vote for this arrogant man who called me a racist, bigot and nativist during his quest for Amnesty for All!
I'm in agreement with the above posters. As a conservative, I could never vote for McCain. His record speaks for itself, voted against tax cuts, voted in McCain/Feingold, voted for amnesty, and want to turn Irag into another Korea. Not to mention he wants to 'bomb, bomb, Iran'. Not my idea of a conservative. I wish there was still a candidate that had a record to back up their words. Someone who has never voted for a tax increase, never voted for a unbalanced budget, never used taxpayer money for personal 'junkets' and has based every vote for the past 20 years on whether it was constitutionally allowed or not. Not on if it would garner him votes. If there were such a candidate would you vote for him? Or do you prefer the current 3, who would continue the path of bloated government, massive debt and a plunging dollar which can be felt at the gas pump and the grocery store? It's your choice, and it's not too late. TimM - Missouri
