If you are looking at turning it into a blog type application, I think it would be real cool to develop a blog type site that allows all users to register and post content like a multi user blog. Not like a wordpress blog. But where each person can register, post content into predefined categories, or create their own categories, then display all the content together. Like a social network but that only has blogging. Social blogging I guess is what that is called, similar to sitepoint.com but cf and opensource. Just my vote if you are making a mssive overhaul.
