My husband is a retired minister and has had 100's of funeral's. Never would he have commented on TV personalities during a funeral service. His ministry should be limited to the deceased family only at this time.

Pastor Wright has a hard time focusing on the moment. At a funeral when his focus should be comforting the family and friends of the one who had passed he chooses to get side tracked and attack Fox News O'reilly and Hannity. To politicize a funeral by dragging in any manner that of political viewpoint, is
in my humble opinion, to take away the sacred rite of passage that funerals
represent. It's a time for celebrating the life of the newly departed, and not
an oppportunity to borrow the ears of those honouring the dead. In many ways, it is very brash & shows a lack of finesse. It exhibits abuse by being in center stage,thereby drawing attention to amplify one's political views and not the respect due to the deceased. Shame on him - the minister!

My husband is a retired minister and has had 100's of funeral's. Never would he have commented on TV personalities during a funeral service. His ministry should be limited to the deceased family only at this time.

First thing I told my husband when I heard this story was what is wrong with that reverend talking about Fox News during a Eulogy at a Funeral and then came this vote from you, I couldn't resist voting in this one. The funeral was for a judge who was highly regarded and respected in the community by everyone. Law enforcement, lawers, teachers, social workers. Everyone. His memory was supposed to be honored by all those speaking. Not for Reverand Wright to use the pulpit to further his fifteen minutes of fame and to spew more of his garbage. This was was shameful and disrepectful. If he has a beef with Fox News or Sean Hannity or Bill O'reilly he should go on the program. When a life is lacking meaning, it is often offset by performance, creating an illusion of meaning for for a brief moment, especially if the performance has a responsive audience. It happens in politics and religion and when acting replaces genuine character as in Reverend Wright's dismal display of being a "disciple/follower" of the teachings of Jesus it sadly becomes fanaticism and obsession with performance. Meaning in life is one of our greatest human needs and when a person has something other than the flow of God's love in their life, they mistakenly become intoxicated with their own thoughts, feelings, social relations, behavior and lose touch with the time tested truths of reality and tried and true human values. Sean Hannity, and to a lesser extent, Bill O'Reilly, have been trashing Wright for several weeks, so they should've seen this coming for some time. What do you expect Wright to do in light of this anyway? Pointing out the injustices, such as the bombing of Nagasaki (once the city with the highest Catholic population in Japan) and the Tuskegee Airmen experiments, does not make one anti-American. People who bothered to read their Bibles should know that it is an obligation to rebuke and condemn injustices when they see it, lest they become guilty of the same. In such a case their silence and inaction means they consent to the injustice, and that's why they are guilty. (See Leviticus 5.1 and Romans 1.18, 1.32.)

It is bad enough the so-called reverend shamelessly used a funeral to go into a tirade against others and to grandstand.
But once again, just like with his slur remarks against Italians, he got his history badly wrong. (Italians by the way did NOT descend from Romans, who were made of Latins and Estrucans at least in Italy, but from the Germanic tribes that conquered that region from the Roman- such as Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Vandals, Lombards, Franks.)
He made claim Jefferson also called down God's judgment on America and nobody accused Jefferson of lack of patrotism. Actually, Jefferson did NOT call down God's judgment on America, but said he feared it would happen over slavery. A huge difference between Jefferson, who was willing to have God blessed America, and Wright who through his words revealed he despised America. Jefferson's own words here from Notes on Virginia that Wright distorted: ""I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever."
And his words about Jefferson being pedophile revealed his own hypocrisy since Islam was founded by a pedophile (Mohammed), and despite his denials of being Muslim, he supports alot of Islamic causes of radical kind (see NOI and Hamas).
The fact he would appeal to Jefferson on God's wrath does reveal one thing though: it undermines his own thesis that the founders "planted slavery" in America. He again showed his contempt for history by making these remarks. The founders did NOT plant slavery. They inherited the problem of slavery once they got independence from England. Many founders like Ben Rush, John Adams, and Ben Franklin openly advocated end of slavery, and they succeededin getting slavery abolished in the Northern states. Attempts were also made in Virginia but not successful. Only three states opposed end of slavery as part of constitutional process (NC, SC, and Georgia). It was feared loss of these states combined with loss of states like NY over other issues not related to slavery would cost founders chance of having Constiution ratified. That was why a series of compromises were reached, including having slave trade banned by 1807, and then hoped slavery would gradually die out. But the founders did not have much of a choice. No concessions to those three states, and they stayed out of being part of America, and they would still owned slaves without much possibility of abolition later. Be part of America, and at least in their minds, there is hope for that., given the strong reaction against slavery that was taking place in America at time of its founding (one needs to see NW Ordinance that banned slavery from entering new territories that wanted to become states).
His remarks are intended to inflame the audience against America. Truth has no part of it.

The claims of being a prophet in biblical tradition is an insult to our intelligence. Real prophets go to those who sinned or those whose sins can lead a nation astrayed and warned them, not hide behind a pulpit in one's own church, railing against them to get people heated against them. Not run and hide from interviews when called out on that. Not insult victims of crimes like Natalie Holloway by slandering her with charges of her "giving it up" and being drunk. Not slurring Italians with garlic remark. Not making lewd display of how Bill Clinton rode Monica. Reverand Wright was wrong to deliver hate speech toward Fox News celebs during a eulogy that is suppose to uplift a grieving family for a deceased loved one. However wrong it was for a funeral, it was good for America to see again evidence of the real Obama through his association with long time friend and mentor, Reverend Wright, not to mention other anti-American terrorists and Muslim extremists.

Obama is not resonsible for what his pastor said. He is responsible for making the guy his spiritual advisor, for having him married him and his wife, and for baptizing his kids.

My children are both Christians, virgins, don't drink, smoke, or use drugs. They both worked hard to get good grades, worked hard in their community, and have served others in all walks of life. But when it came time to get assistance for college tutition, they were rejected. But we worked harder and took out massive loans for them to go to school among sexually active students, drinking, smoking and failing classes with tutition paid for by groups like Wrights. Whoever asked him to speak at the funeral, knew in advance I am sure that he would be ranting about something. I would say based on that decision those attending wanted to hear more of those rantings. That is why I find it impossible to believe that Barack never heard any "ugly" talk during the 20 years he sat in the pew. I mean the pastor goes to a funeral and chooses that time to strike out at those that have not made life easy for him the past several weeks. I guess I would hope that a pastor would be different from the guy on the street and rise above his detractors and instead reach out to them. Wright, in a position of authority must surely understand that he will be held accountable by God for all the offenses , words, that leave his mouth and enter the world. I question his ability to perform in the capacity of pastor, or christian leader. It was most in appropriate to use a funeral to project his personal views against anyone.

Bridging the racial divide is a two way street and will never be bridged with words like Wrights. Was this approriate at a funeral? For heaven's sake, is it less acceptable at a funeral than from the pulpit on a Sunday morning? Reverend Wright was asked to eulogize a colleague at what is supposed to be a dedicatory service aimed at honoring a deceased friend. If he had taken this opportunity to lay out his personal laundry list of grievances regarding his tax status we would automatically know this was inappropriate. There the man is, lying in his coffin and his loved ones have to hear this narcicist use his death as a high-profile retribution forum. This shows a lack of personal discipline and respect for his friend. It lies outside the boundaries of propriety or good taste, but well inside the scope of vindictiveness.

How can I possibly make a decision and you show half a minute of the sermon. I have never met a perfect pastor, minister, or nun. The Bible is very clear on that. Man will not lie with man nor woman with woman. They are allowed to live their lives as they wish. Some Churches even condone now because many of these so called "Churches" are moving away from Biblical Teachings. Just remember, God hasn't changed though and his chastisement will be harsh.

Too many Americans are too lazy. Its simply easier to changes Jobs, Husbands, Wives, Religions, Churches, Teams, etc. then it is to work to bring about change. Remember, you can only bring about change by staying with the System no matter what it is. Once you are outside of the System, you surrender all of your Power. Noboby in the System will pay any attention to you and your complaints. Learn to Vote for things that matter, such as the Economy. That's why you are so bitter. I am angry that a lot of my Tax Money goes into dredging the Intercoastal Waterway so that the Rich Elite can safely sail their Yachts there!
