If the new software option wins, I'd be willing to create the roster set of the TWML in the new format. If it's one I have (OOTP5, 6, 2006). If people want a later version, I could get it (not immediately, but eventually) and the same offer would stand.

While pitchers are rated differently in newer versions, I could come up with a formula so that I could fairly calculate the new ratings.

I voted for continuing the original format... however after reading the comment above... if the twml rosters could be re-created to the new software that would be ok as well..

I just think in the spirit of the TWML we cant just say.. run the season and let it end... teams are in various states and we should continue with the same teams, etc..

Well, I went with finish this season and start a new league... not sure why!

I voted for keeping the original league file but I agree with the Ken that if KL is willing to re-create the rosters using new software that would be great.

The hardest part would be prospects. Probably I would ask for the 15 or so minor league guys you want to transfer over and then run the "fill minors with fictional players" option to fill up everyone's system.

I'm already working on the spreadsheet and formulas to set this up, just in case. 8-5 is a close vote with 11 more votes to go, so I'd best be prepared.

Ineresting. I've read bad reviews on OOTP6, lol.

If we started a new file, I would definitely favor turning rosters/prospects
over into the new file.

I actually started doing this by hand in OOTP8 nearly 2 months ago. I was just going to surprise everyone and let you decide if it was worthy or not...but I quit when I realized Adam had committed till Y25.

I like KL's idea... sounds easier :)

FYI, I voted twice... so minus one vote on the new software choice..

only supposed to allow 1 vote... that was goofy, but i had to test it

Really? I thought OOTP6 was pretty solid. I know OOTP5 had a few problems, and I probably wouldn't want to go with it. I didn't get the 6.5 "Expansion" though.

I'm in a league that uses OOTP8 and I'm a bit mixed with it. It's not bad, but it seems to make things more complex, but not any more realistic (same OOTP limitations/omissions on a more layered system). Especially for online play (solo/offline play seems to still be the strength of OOTP2006/2007/v8, imo).

I play in the league without the game, and that's also mixed. The web reports are detailed, but omit things like Rule 5 eligibility. No report of the players personality ratings which can be key in drafts (signability when he becomes an FA) or in trades (is the reason why this stud is on the block is because he has 10 loyalty and 100 greed?)

Some of these we could turn off for the TWML (I remember our version of the Rule 5 draft was not a hit, for example), but some things are just part of the engine.

I think if we stick with the policy of not requiring the game, OOTP 6 would be the easiest for everyone to deal with (including the commissioner/sim manager/whoever is running the sims). It's similiar enough to OOTP2 in that only learning a new ratings system and a few more strategy options and a new financial structure (guys actually make nearly modern money in v6).

Later versions (than 6) would be the same curve, but could potentially add coaching staffs *without scouts* (they are tied together in v6), definitely a modern-style financial system (my closer wanted 14 mil from me in my OOTP8 league - greed/loyalty is hugely important), and much more complex strategy/depth chart options (can be considered both good and bad I suppose, though you can ask the CPU to set your depth options up)

One big difference is that in 2006 and beyond versions, you are no longer the owner. "The owner" will set ticket prices and such, though you can control whether or not he makes his whole budget available to you. That might be a turn off for some.

Ugh, sorry about the wall of text. I had it in paragraphs. Seems it doesn't like paragraphs :(

Figures, I finally vote and it ties it up. I'd love to see some new software.

Trimming down to 25-man and 15 prospects would make it just like when we started in year 1... 40 man rosters. I like it.

Well - technically, it's 8-7 (Travis accidently voted twice for the second choice)

Essentially tied, though. I wish these other 9 people would vote so I know whether to bother with this or not.

I voted to continue with the original file, but I would switch my vote now based on KL's offer to convert the league. I don't care about the software. I just want to be sure we don't lose all our players. If we can keep some semblance of the current teams in place, it would also let us keep most of the history of the TWML 1 league intact (e.g. Hall of Fame and guys on track to be HoF'ers ... team records ... league leaders ...) That's all I'm looking for... I'd guess several others in the "orginial file" category would change their votes as well...

After reading KL's comments on upgrading rosters to OOTP6, I voted for finishing this season and moving to new software. I worked hard to put this team together and would love being able to see my young guys retire.

Where's the "Fuck you Travis, nobody likes you now go away" option?

KL

@schelack: league (and team I believe) records, I could port over and make them a part of the record book. The Hall and career stats...not so much. I'm creating these guys from scratch, so they won't have career stats. The first year will have a "glitched" ROY for our purposes (I'm assuming) since everyone will be a "1st year player". Teams, you'll carry some players over.

If we can save some players, I don't care what version we use. You know, we could not finish this season saying the season was canceled by the site going on strike! ;)

Paul's idea ain't bad ... a strike-shortened season would definitely give the league some realism and would also explain why everybody's salaries suddenly start jumping in 2018 with the new software! :-)

Heh, it'd be 1994 all over again.

Yeah, we GMs locked out the draft and free agency to get the players back to the table and agree to a new labor deal.
