Hi Michelle I received your information on MRSA. It is absolutaly true that natural products work better. I use essential oils for massage. Those you have suggested antimicrobial. I think MRSA is putting alot of Hospital staff nurses in particular in risk. Alot of patients come to hospital and they get MRSA it is very hard to get rid of. You have done your research very well, congragulations! Regards Deva

Hi to all whom have issues with on going re-occuring infections. Consider getting a second opinion if you feel you are getting nowhere with your doctor also insist on seeing an infectious dieases doctor whom will conduct the appropriate tests in order to properly diagnose whether you have a normal Staph infection or MRSA. Therefore enabling the proper treatment.

I had back surgery and that went fine, and went home. A few days later a was back in the emergency room for SIX times and could not move my legs at that point. (Do not trust the emergency room they were only treating me for pain management and nothing else). I was now admitted and it was determined that I had MRSA super bug. It was definitely the operating room where I contacted this infection, which consumed my spine in the surgical area just within days after my surgery. I was in the hospital for two months in extreme pain and a PICC line was installed so I could receive Vancomycin infusions twice a day for eight weeks. At this point, I have been out of work now for a year and half because I have continuous back pain and leg numbness, and my spine did not regenerate the way god gave it to me. As a safe guard against any reoccurrence, my family doctor has recommended I get blood test every three months for the rest of my life, and even if I get a cold to come in immediately and do not wait until 5 days later. MSRA is never cured it only goes in remission, and my doctor would not do any type of surgery again.

I have a 3 yr old granddaughter I have custsty of and 2 times that she has gone to visit her real mother she has come with mrsa. the doctor she see's cultures it to find out what drug it is suseptable to and gives her that (Bactrum). He also has me clean the affected area with Hepacleanse and then treat with a baterial slave. Well it gets rid of it, but I worry that it could really become serious at some time. I don't know what else to do I have contacted social services on her mother and they tell me that it does not meet their guidelines to investigate the mother and her surroundings, which really ticks me off. What can i do to keep this infection at bay and keep her mother from taking her for visits? I welcome any information anyone might have to help as we are fighting the infection again.

I recently recovered from a MRSA infection in my arm, probably from taking prescribed injectible (IM) medication (yes I use sterile technique, I've been taking this medication for years). After vancomycin treatment in the hospital and Bactrim outpatient treatment, all that's left of it is a nasty-looking scar and some numbness around the area where the abscess was drained. Hope it won't recur but if I have any problems with recurrence I will know where to look for answers! (Yes I finished my script -- over-prescription of antibiotics by doctors *and* patients not finishing their prescriptions are two of the factors that experts believe are causing bacteria like S. aureus to evolve into resistant strains like MRSA.) The worst part for me (so far) was when I went to the local university hospital , they concluded based on an ultrasound that the huge painful lump wasn't an abscess and therefore that I didn't need surgery. They sent me home on clindamycin. Well, until I got GI side effects and had to stop; they only gave me one dose (script was for 4 times a day) and didn't keep me in the hospital long enough to make sure I didn't get the serious GI disease that can be caused by most antibiotics and is often particularly bad with clindamycin). Lucky for me I had an appointment with my regular doctor (at a different teaching hospital, out of town) a couple days later; he took one look at the thing and said to get straight to the emergency room. The ER doctor at this hospital was way more clueful, in my opinion. When she took a look at the results of the ultrasound (the first image she ordered to check for an abscess), she decided it was inconclusive and ordered a CT, which of course revealed that there was indeed an abscess. So if I do get (or suspect) a recurrence of this thing, I'm going to go to the hospital where I see my regular doctor. It was really lucky I had that appointment; I don't know how long it would have taken them to diagnose the abscess if I'd stayed at the local hospital, and without getting rid of that, the antibiotics were not going to be much use on their own. And you know how long it takes people to admit they were wrong!

Another thing I had a lot of trouble with was getting adequate pain treatment. I am being treated for chronic pain, and as a result I have some tolerance to opioid analgesics such as morphine, fentanyl, oxycodone, etc. I explained this but the doctors at the first hospital were unwilling to prescribe an effective dose of pain medication. They insisted that the medication they gave me (5mg Oxy IR q.4-6h p.r.n.), which I told them (truthfully) was not helping, "should be" the right amount for a woman my age, weight, and height. The result was that I was in almost constant pain almost throughout my [first] hospital stay. The other hospital was far more reasonable. I told them that I suffer from chronic pain and they took me seriously, especially since I couldn't take my regular medication because of the infection. They seemed to genuinely care about alleviating suffering. BTW the line between CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA is not always so clear-cut. Better to base the distinction on genetic tests than on assumptions about where the infection was acquired (although of course sometimes that is obvious).

I have been dealing with MRSA now for over 8 years and was just diagnosed this year that it is MRSA. It is really aggravating that doctors just want to blow you off and not want to listen to what you have to say about your own body. We know it best, not them. I am still dealing with outbreaks of it and have 4 children and it is really annoying. If anyone can help me or send me some advice I would appreciate it. My email address is glbarham@gmail.com Ty

My 20 month old son has had 3 reocurring bouts of MRSA in his diaper area since 12/23. Each time he has been prescribed Bactrim Orally and Bactraban topically. The third breakout our pediatrician sent us to a infectious disease pediatrics specialist. He wasn't concerned with the red pimples he saw. Said there were no open sores or "boils"....He told us to use the medications for 2 wks. vs. 1 as in the past. He also gave us chlorhexidine soap to use for 5 days and then 1 x a week. I am concerned another breakout will occur once off the meds. My 3 1/2 year old daugter tested positive on her bottom and in nose. She has never had any symptoms however was treated for 1 wk. retested negative and was never tested again. Any of us can pick this up in the communitiy and never have a symptom. How many times can my son be on an antibiotic before it ruins his little system. I cannot find any information on long term affects on antibiotics in a toddler. Each time he's on an antibiotic after use he tests negative. Is there a cure? I guess based on this site the answers may be in your book. After searching the net I am finding very little information on MRSA in Toddler diaper area.....

Mr. Tood Vallard is currently incarserated within a state prison and has been diagnosed with MRSA. He has not been educated about this condition and is requestiong reading material to help him understand MRSA so he can become involved in his treatment. Please recommend a book (s) that explains dieases like MRSA and both standard and alternative approved treatments. Due to the prison understaffing and the constant overflow of inmate population there isn't enough staff to go around. This information would help .

I am currently "healing" from MRSA. On 4/28 I was at work and began to feel uncomfortable in the groin area. By the end of the work day I went home, thought very quickly that I needed to go to the ER. When I went, I was given oral & IV Clindamycin, and was diagnosed with cellulitis (skin infection) and an abscess. After a day or so I was called and told I had a staph infection and to immediately come back to the hospital for IV Clindamycin. I have been on it orally for almost two weeks and STILL the "wound" is excreting pus...yuck! I also found out that if one doesn't eat at least a bite of yogurt prior to taking the med, c diff could be contracted; I have already been hospitalized with c diff six months ago, another life threatening disease, so yogurt it is! My 88 year old mother lives with me so every time I go to the bathroom I use Clorox wipes to assure she won't get it...or at least I pray. I work in a corporate diagnostics lab and the rule of thumb for any biohazard clean up is 10% Clorox to 90% water. USE IT! It will diminish or remove the chance of infecting someone else and help your own situation as well. Even on antibiotics, my doctor told me that I will always carry MRSA and if I don't heal completely before I jump back into normal life, I could contract it again...and again. I just finished oral Bactaban (cream inserted in the nose) and am using the same medication as a topical ointment to the infected area. I also must use bacteria wipes to wipe down my entire body before I shower. It scares the hell out of me what MRSA can do and how difficult it is to control and finally absolve. MRSA can be a flesh-eating disease; my best friend's daughter had it and was on a PICC line for a month! To this day, her 21 year old right leg has a caved in area where she had been infected. Then her sister got a spot in her arm pit and had to be treated. Fortunately, she healed in less than two weeks. But we are ALL now carriers of MRSA and always will be. I am currently off from work on short-term disabillity and have been for two weeks with no end in sight as of yet. I have tried to do simple tasks such as use the riding mower to cut grass (nobody else is going to do it), because I was feeling better. My advice? Let the grass grow or pay somebody to do it! Although I was just sitting on a mower, I should have been relaxing to accommodate the healing process. Just last night the wound was itching which to me indicated it was healing. I washed my hands and scratched just a bit. I'm glad I did; it made me pay attention to the fact that the wound was healing and I STILL had pus and it couldn't get out! I opened the wound myself and squeezed (just like the doc at the ER) and a huge amount expelled. OMG! So, I called my doc this morning to advise that apparently I'm NOT just healing, I actively still have it. My best advice? When you have MRSA you are sick. DO NOT TRY to make yourself feel better by doing chores...obviously the body needs complete rest to heal and I screwed up. I pray for ANYBODY that contracts MRSA; not only does it disrupt life, but it can come back even with extreme appropriate treatment. All I can say is WHAT THE HECK IS NEXT in this world of man-made superbugs????
