My bunnies like to spill and poop in their water dishes. Use it as back-up to the bottle.

One of my buns half drowns himself in his water bowl and then comes up coughing and sputtering. I had to switch to a bottle for his safety and to reduce my worry :)

I've seen very few bunnies poop or spill crocks, and those that have do not do it consistently or even often. This is definitely not a universal rabbit behavior. I prefer crocks as they are easier for rabbits to use and encourage more drinking. It won't work out for everyone. People should use what best fits their situation.

Personally, I stay away from bottles unless a placing crock is impractical, such as space or needing to be sure my disabled bunny didn't do what Karen's bun did due to lack of muscle control. (I still offered him a crock while I was right there supervising and holding it, because he really perfered it)

Either crock or bottle is ok. just keep them clean daily. Bottles are a little trickier to clean. If you use a bottle, get a bottle that opens from both the top and the bottom. This allows you to prevent bacterial buildup.
