Oh how silly, we all have ancestors that are from many different nations, we are many different nationalities and races, and colors! Besides america is a melting pot. Anyone can be American, no matter where they come from.

The aggressive anti Irish comments are racist. Now we seem to find ourselves in a position wereby we are racist if we enforce our immigration laws. The anger and aggressive tone of the pro immigration lot says it all really. Like a kid who can't have sweets, saying they are rubbish anyway (justme). Residents Against Racism use the only weapon in their arsenal all to frequently and that is "racism". We have an English troll dictating etiquette to us as if we are an ignorant nation of bog trotters who know no better. Any Irish person who really knows sub Saharan Africa and what it is like to live there would say stop the influx. I know an Irish family who left Zimbabwe penniless after they were violently driven off their farm. They returned to Ireland and started their lives all over again. There are many like them in the UK and Ireland. Where is their voice?

Yes the Irish left to seek a better life during the famine and during harsh the economic times since. We must remember that forced immigration and British rule has been the cause of many of our economic and social woes.

What really worries me about the RAR and Islamic Council for Ireland is their attitude towards opposition (Seoige on RTE). The whole debate was about migrant workers leaving Ireland. It was hijacked by Rosanna Flynn and Shaheed Satardien and their behaviour was apalling. Shaheed was laughing at the Irish in a mocking manner. He told us we were all immigrants and nobody batted an eyelid. He told us that we are ungrateful to immigrants who were leaving. His agenda was to use Polish workers to further his cause of the Islamification of Ireland. If a Polish worker had been sitting next to Ted he would have supported Ted. The People of Poland have contributed greatly to our shortlived economic success. They would however oppose immigration fraud and the Islamification of Ireland and Poland. They, like the Irish are proud of their heritage and that is why they were not represented on the show. Ted and a Polish guest may have agreed on too many issues.

Shaheed Satardien wants the Islamification of Ireland. We know his agenda. The Islamic Council of Ireland would not exist if that were not the case. Rosanna Flynn wants open borders and NO deportations. Her aganda is harder to fathom. In the light of events in Europe and the multicultural mess there, any right thinking person would adopt a wait and see approach. She tells us that immigrants are not a burden to the state. She hides behind hard working Polish people and uses them to further the aims of economic migrants from outside the EU. What her end game is nobody knows. She has obviously chosen to turn a blind to the social and economic problems faced by other European countries. She tell us that immigrants are not here to scrounge, yet Residents Against Racism advises them on how to claim welfare. She thinks we should accept more. She believes that once you set foot on Irish soil you should be allowed to stay. No country in the world has that sort of policy. What her plan is I cannot tell you, but she would bankrupt this country if she had her way. She has cost the hard working Irish families untold millions in her misguided campaigns. Money which could have vaccinated young Irish girls against cervical cancer.

Ted? We know his agenda. It is clear. He wants to preserve the Ireland we all love. We have a beautiful legacy which is not ours to give away. We owe it to our forefathers to nurture and preserve it so that future generations of Irish children can enjoy it. No man and no political party has the right to give away something that is not theirs. We are the caretakers of Ireland and it's culture that is all. Many people gave their lives for Ireland, why do people think we will cower and crawl to name calling and insults?

  • Barra MacReamonn - 16 years ago

The hostility of some of the comments above surprises and disappoints me. Lets have an adult conversation and debate about the issues without resorting to insults.
1 - As an Irishman, I believe we have a fundamental right to formulate and influence policy regarding immigration to our country.
2 - I do not believe we should apologise for that right.
3 - EU support did not come with any conditions that we should allow unregulated immigration
4- Irish people emigrated many times over the centuries, in a time that was very different socially, economically, and technologically Particularly communications), and for reasons that are far different to the current situation.
5 - One of the reasons that we should guard our country and its citizenship closely is exactly what we have learnt from our history of emmigration ; the Irish scammed and rogued their way through Britian, the USA, Canada and Germany. They got false documents for relatives, jobs for the boys, and they lived in enclaves. In most cases, they were dispised by the local population (see above comments for some supporting evidence !) Why would we want that to occur in our own country ?
6 - Irsh ecomonic underdevelopment up to the early 1960's was a function of a long British colonial history including underinvestment in our industries and underdevelopment of any natural mineral wealth. Furthermore it was hampered by the British trade embargos during and after the second world war (as a result of Churchill sulking because we would not support his almost calamitous war efforts, until the USA bailed him out)
7 - as an island nation of course we are insular. We live on an island that no one wanted to come to until recently. So it is natural for us to ask why these foreigners would want to come here ? where were they 20, 30, 40, 80 years ago ? why now? would it be our wealth ? perhaps our social welfare system ? perhaps an easy option to access fortress Europe ?
8 - We are looking at the experiences of Britian, Holland Germany, France, USA, Canada, Australia, and many others where this Walt Disney notion of multiculturalism and all happy living together has failed completely. Multiculturalism simply does not work.
9 - We should not close our borders, however we should be VERY strict in who we allow entry to, it should be on the basis of qualification, language, potential contribution, as the princilal criteria.
10 - Peter, justme, and mercedi, I do not know of your experiences that led you to believing that ALL irish people are like that. I guess that would make us victims of your racism in the same way you accuse us of being racist.

In Ireland we are struggling with seeing a lot of foreign people suddenly appear in our country, with no cultural connection whatsoever with Ireland, and demanding minority rights in areas with which we have no experience (eg. muslims wearing headgear in schools, crucifixes being objected to, demanding a crib in a hospital being removed because it was a religious symbol).
I do not apologise for being Irish and being very proud to be and wanting to retain the Irish nation state and that which is ethnically Irish. I do not want that diluted by welfare tourists and short term foreign opportunists.
I do welcome longterm residents and those who want to contribute honestly to the state and the economy and learn our ways our customs, folklore history, etc.

I agree with you.I have been to many parts of the world and never met a people as ignorant as the Irish they are rude dishonest and violent and their main hobby is character assassination. They even have a hatred and spite toward each other. They know nothing of the world outside of their own wet cold and dreary island. And you are right about them being racist .The politicians are closet racists looking for any excuse. The only reason they are in the EU is to get handouts from Germanys poor box.But its such an insignificant little nothing country that its not worth bothering about.I was born in Ireland of white English parents and I am packing up and leaving too.

  • justme - 16 years ago

Then close the borders, don't allow anyone to come into, get out of eu asap and make Ireland a prison. Peter I have traveled everywhere, I never met so ungrateful, rude and uneducated as the Irish with such an aggressive behavior. Just read the Irish news every weekend what happens there. They all keep on drinking and shoot each other. And then they dare to talk about us? Shameful! The most of them don't know anything about the world outside and the only thing they care is their wet island. Why do you bother your mind with this insignificant country? I really wonder who wants to emigrate there? What's there to do?

  • pcscz - 16 years ago

    Peter
"Now, I am not saying that Ireland should not control its borders, however, Ireland has emigrants worldwide"
    - Well what exactly are you saying? We have lost control of our borders. We are becoming minorities in our own homeland.

"You have two choices now, either you say that the Irish are inherently superior to all other people thus they can and should live where they want or; you deny the facts."
    - That is moronic Peter and you know it. So because we want to remain the majority ethnic group in our own country, we are seen as some sort of racial supremacists? Sorry Peter, but Irish people aren't so stupid as to accept your foolish branding.

  • justme - 16 years ago

See how hypocrites you have been. You were begging for jobs just 10 years before. Should I mention the famine? Should I mention that the Irish diaspora is 10pc more the size of the island? Should I mention how many Irish live here at the moment in my homeland?

You became the second highest economy of europe and EU helped you so much for that and instead of saying "thank you Europe" you discriminate against the Spanish, Italians, French, Polish who live their lives in your "friendly" snobby wet island.... Are you happy with this?

Because of your behavior and your lack of education you became racists and xenophobic and all the Europeans who chose to live in Ireland don't take you so much serious. You are a bunch of donkeys nation , accept it. I used to admire the Irish people and to support their fights against the British tyranny but now seeing that rubbish I would like to see you treated again as you treat all the foreigners there who they are so peaceful and smarter than the drunk fools potato head Irish. I would like to see EU rejecting you and please believe me I will celebrate this day.

And the best thing is that the Celtic tiger is over. I would be glad to see the rips of this fake booming and all the immigrants leaving the green island looking for a better place to live and you... begging for jobs again. But then there would be no mercy...

But why really I am bothering my mind about this insignificant country?

Stop present yourself as a "friendly" country. We understand it's a well done tourist campaign. You are not a welcoming nation. That is Scotland, not you. You are snobs and fascists. And by the way Ireland it's not my favorite touristic destination.

You are so dirty and littered country as Nigeria, (I forgot to mention). Your children keep on littering and tossing food bags everywhere and then you dare to speak about us who gave you everything? You are afraid to loose your culture but what culture do you have? When we had civilization you were digging with your hands like the animals...

    Thanks in advance
    Prepare yourselves Irish

  • Peter - 16 years ago

Look, I find it a bit hypocritical that a country like Ireland, can be totally
anti-immigrant. It it antithetical to Ireland's existence. They have had centuries of emigration to the extend that there was depopulation.

Now, I am not saying that Ireland should not control its borders, however, Ireland has emigrants worldwide.

You have two choices now, either you say that the Irish are inherently superior to all other people thus they can and should live where they want or; you deny the facts.

  • Todd in Los Angeles, CA - 16 years ago

I would deport those illegals refusing to identify their country of origin to the country they most likely originated from. Here in the US we have the same problems: a lot of illegal immigration from third world Mexico and Latin America and some of those illegals refusing to identify their country of origin. It is truly amazing how fast certain parts of California, the school system, the hospitals, and every institution they come into contact with have gone down hill.

  • JIMMY - 16 years ago

Ive lived in africa these so called people are worse than nits...you will never get rid of them...go to africa and you will see irelands future with these things

  • Ciachyou - 16 years ago

The point is that many irish men want to left alone to work with a union thats not going to be undermined the the mass amount of illegals and scum being aloud into the country. Even thought fact upon facts are thrown against the government they wont back down. Can any one name a country that let immigrants in and the working class weren't put under massive amounts of stress. Even now the crime rates are increasing and its proven that the immigrants are to blame. There 10 percent of the population and 30 percent of the prison population. Only god or the icp can help us now.
