Nice to see that 50% of voters so far have voted for linux
wow, that means 224 out of 448 voters voted for linux
I find it entertaining reading how linux and OSX are promoting themselves mostly, saying what their os can do. while arguments from windows always come like linux can't do that and osx can't do that (plus i disagree many of those)
oh and the reason the poll is clearing linux way? i don't know cause i am loving my mac too much
Windows XP is obsolete, I would never consider it
I'm not shocked that people reading 'Computerworld' would vote for Linux. What about the readers of 'Time' or 'People' or 'Engineering News-Record'? I've been using Linux as my desktop for nine or more years (since RedHat 5.) I've also run all flavors of Windows in that time frame, as well as Solaris, OS/2, and most recently OSX 10.5.2 on an old laptop drive hooked up to an eSata connector on my clone box. The gap between Linux and any other desktop is closed as far as I'm concerned for the business environment. As for multimedia, it's got that covered. I believe OSX is easier for the average, 'non-techie' person to make use of right away. I believe anyone could use Linux effectively as a day-to-day desktop. Vista is great if you only run the latest hardware and software. With a dual-core CPU and 4GB's of RAM and a 256MB graphics card I find that Vista runs perfectly fine. I just don't see the point in it. Linux has all the nifty rotating 3D cubes and desktop animations and transparency that Vista does. The world's richest man had six years to come up with a successor to XP, and Vista was all he could muster. Shameful.
Look within you own home. What type of machine do your kids "play" on. I bet its XP. Why it that. It's easy to use, runs on your old hardware and you've given them limited user rights.
Actually, my kids play on Ubuntu Linux... A 4 and a 7 year old. They think SuperTux rules as well as My oldest loves Metal Blob Solid.

Wow, interesting to see who actually took the time to read through this article and vote, rather than getting some real work done. By the way... I, too, chose Linux.
