When faced with dramatically shrunken school funding, what should you never, never, not ever, never cut from the budget?

Music programs. Can’t cut the tunes. You learn more life-long, useable lessons from band practice than you do from trigonometry.

Art classes. Are you kidding? Obviously, art cannot be cut. The act of creation and the search for originality are essential things to practice at a young age.

Speech classes. Seems like an extra class where you just give little speeches, but as verbal communication is the cornerstone of social interaction ...

Sports programs. These programs aren’t just educational, they provide important social outlets and they really bring a school together.

Teachers/teaching positions. The problems associated with large classes and over-worked teachers are well-documented. Reasonably well-rested teachers = good education.
