What do you think? Was Nunez out to sink a contestant?

The question Oscar Nunez asked was "Should immigration laws be the responsibility of the federal goverment or state governments" and simply cited Arizona as an example of a state addressing the issue of immigration. This is a completely fair, and neutral, question. He did NOT ask "do you agree or disagree with the Arizona immigration law" which, ironically, was how Miss Oklahoma CHOSE to answer. Again, HE NEVER ASKED ABOUT HER PERSONAL OPINOIN ON ARIZONA. Had Miss Oklahoma simply stayed with her initial response of "I believe in state's rights" she possibly would have won...but Miss OK was the one who threw in "And I agree with the Arizona law!" on her own (stupidly).

  • PullThePlugOnLA - 14 years ago

Another 'Lame street media' attempt to boost ratings. Maybe we should boycott "The Office"! I suppose Nunez hasn't read the law either, or was briefed by Holders minions. Trump, you're a CHUMP!

It's time to eliminate these STUPID questioneers from asking stupid questions. Your pronounced dead before
you even answer the stupid question of the contestants - all - because the childish liberals are NUTS.
Eliminate THEM and the problem is solved.

  • AAAAANDRE - 14 years ago

It was a loaded question because he mis-interpreted the law as most "laRaza" Illegal Immigrant supporters do...
He said "Arizona’s law, which requires police to verify a person's immigration status if there's "reasonable suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally." He left out the part where they can only ask after legally stopping the person for some other infraction. Not just because they "look illegal".

  • mike paluch - 14 years ago

Hey, THEE Donald is just jrying to make a buck just like any other red-blooded american. Give the guy credit...CONTROVERSY SELLS...and that's the bottom line. As long as all you goofballs react in such a negative way, these questions willALWAYS be asked. So, go ahead and boycott this program or that state. There will be hundreds more morons waiting to fill the void.

  • TommyB - 14 years ago

If it were me, I would've answered...."I'd reeeeeaaaallllly like to win this thing, so I must respectfully decline to answer your question on the grounds of common sense."

There was no (politically) correct answer for it.

  • Lulu - 14 years ago

Absolutely yes this scum bag set up Miss Oklahoma. What a cheap shot.
Everyone is mad at Oklahoma because of our Illegal Immigration bill 1804 that was passed by our legislators and signed by Governor Henry last year.
It’s a strong bill and a large number of illegal aliens have left Oklahoma because of it.
Now our Senators are looking at adding more bite to our bill by passing another bill which will mirror Arizona’s bill.
I don’t know where you live but the Mexican invasion is becoming a huge financial burden to all of us in the heartland.
Middle America has just about had enough.
It will be interesting to see what happens at the November elections!
Oklahoma, the reddest state in the United States of American!

  • Amguanna - 14 years ago

I am absolutely positive that Miss Oklahoma gave the exact correct answer to that absurdly riddiculus question. How STUPID for a person to ask THAT kind of question in a Beauty contest! I suppose that because the judge has a name like "Nunez", he has the right to ask a "LOADED" question like that. Why didn't he ask the question," Since 'our " Federal Government did not respond to the request for the enforcement of the boarders like Arizona had requested numerous times, should the state have taken the avenue they did." I am of the opinion the the judge is NOT as informed as Miss Oklahoma!!!

  • Yolanda - 14 years ago

The question was appropriate due to the national debate about SB 1070. Good job Oscar and Miss. Oklahoma show her side. I guess she did not read the bill otherwise she would have Camden it.

Is Oscar Nunez legal or illegal ?

  • Dave - 14 years ago

This idiot should be barred forever from judging a contest. There was absolutely no way for her to answer his question and be on the right side of the judges. An individual's bias (Nunez) should not be allowed to infiltrate and undermine this process of picking a winner. I though her answer was thoughtful and well delivered given the complete insensitivity of the question.

  • TC Patriot - 14 years ago

Why do you fudge pack'n judges insist on asking highly political questions. This is a beauty contest not a frickn election. I wouldn't wast on minute of my time watching these sociaist judges in action. Trump you stand nothing to gain until these judges change the questioning platform or you fire them. Are you getting some Oscar too?

  • Bink - 14 years ago

This event had been trumpeted by the supreme TRUMPet as a "beauty contest", a contest to be decided on beauty, not perceived intelligence. In this case, it failed on both counts: as Miss Oklahoma answered a political hot potato on illegal immigration (asked by a Hispanic) and gave a pretty good response, considering the insensitivity of the question.

I felt like we were at Pearl Harbor all over again, as the Oklahoma was sunk by a sneak attack, not from the Japanese but from the (substitute your favorite Hispanic minority group here).

My questions: Were the queries by the judges approved in advance ? Did the judges have multiple questions from which to choose on their file cards so they could throw a softball to their favorite finalist or drop a bomb on the enemy?

So much for the beauty of this "beauty contest." Controversy is great but not when it flies in the face of the acknowledged premise of this program - not when a question can derail a contestant because of a pure and simple political agenda.

If the questions were submitted in advance, shame on the line producers as well as the executive producers for allowing what appeared to be a solid and welcome change to the pageant to turn into an ugly mess.

And,what about Miss Michigan's strip contest pictures? ...Are there more out there, maybe more revealing than what's already come to the surface? ...What ever happened to the vetting process? It appears quite a few so-called professionals were sleeping at the switch. The result was a big train wreck that left an insipid taste in my mouth for the rest of the program.

To the Miss USA Pageant staff, please NO MAS!

PS: Natalie Morales did a terrific job as host!!!

  • Nathan - 14 years ago

This wave of political correctness at beauty pageants is revolting. Clearly, Nunez went out to sabotage Miss Oklahoma's chances to win the contest by asking an unfair question. I thought concerns about world peace and ending hunger are the topics at these pageants, not trying to put these young ladies on the spot with charged questions. This happened to a blonde last year, a blonde this year, and I guarantee another Hollywood liberal will go after another blonde next year.

  • David H - 14 years ago

It grieves me that this question was ask but another item that is absurb and bothers me even more is referring to MS USA as an Arab-American. If you claim your citizenship in the USA your are an American period. Otherwise if you want to use a dash in your nationality you are a divided American. That is the problem in this country today. If you do not want to be an American, then don't stay here and enjoy the benefits of this country. Go Home - Where ever that is!

  • Rico - 14 years ago

I guess no tough questions for the Muslim contestant? How about do support Hamas or Hezbollah?

  • Jackie - 14 years ago

Funny that all those who are against states and their rights to handle immigration, actually hate our country. So....why are you still here? Arizona - KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  • Clint - 14 years ago

Very typical "La Raza" strategy. Nunez it the type of racist idiot who would refer to me as an "Anglo".

  • Marie - 14 years ago

Miss Woolard stated in her answer that she is against illegal immigration (and racial profiling), so how could the judges and audience not assume that she supports the AZ law? I think it is a great law. If I lived in AZ and a policeman asked for proof of my citizenship, I would show him, no harm no foul. Why are people so upset?? Illegal immigrants have no civil rights in this country because they are not citizens! So why are people saying it is against civil rights? Americans should support this law. Citizens who look hispanic and might be confronted by police should support this country that they are so fortunate enough to live in, and take 3 minutes out of their day to show some papers. I mean come on... If I happened to be swerving in my car one night and get pulled over and given a breathalyzer, even though I haven't been drinking, am I going to get upset? No! It's a law, it is our duty as citizens to follow the law, get over it.

All that to say, I think this question and answer definitely cost Woolard the crown. She was the favorite up until that point in the pageant. Not only did Rima Fakih trip in the evening gown competition, which is a deduction of points, she claimed in her interview question that birth control is a controlled substance. Wow. Anyone dumb enough to think that birth control is a controlled substance (meaning that is has the potential for abuse or addiction) should not be Miss USA, a representative of this country. (unless she is hooked on birth control, and tripped because she was under the influence?!) So an erroneous answer + tripping over her gown doesn't cost her as many points as Woolard's truthful and factual answer? Wow...

  • don - 14 years ago

Lets all get together and stop watching the Office in protest. This was a terrible question to ask- he knew it would be hard to answer. Definitely a set up. Well we have a arab as Miss USA- this should make Obama happy...

  • Full Supporter - 14 years ago

Of course they were trying to sink her. However I don't think that it will work because the new Miss USA doing a stripper dance? Looks like the First Runner Up should take over by the end of the week.

  • phil - 14 years ago

I heard San Diego is now crying over all the people from Arizona cancelling their San Diego vacations. One politician is saying Arizonans should not punish San Diego businesses as a result of San Diego's boycott of Arizona. What??? So San Diego can encourage people to deprive Arizona of business but not the other way around? This is typical, left-wing, Peelosi-inspired b.s. Libs think they have the right to do anything they want, but those who think differently than they do have no rights at all.

    And jayjay......you're an idiot.

  • Len Mormando - 14 years ago

Asking a Southwestern contestant to comment on a law in a neighboring state is as relevant as asking a Muslim contestant her opinion of extremists' terror attacks on the U.S.

  • Chicken Hammer - 14 years ago

We have all gone insane! Arizona passes a law to enforce the law the US Government will not enforce and everyone comes down on them. We are a nation of laws. There is no acceptable excuse for the Federal Government's failure to secure our borders. It's a sorry comment on the state of our nation that Arizona had to pass that law and each and every one of us who believes in the rule of law should be applauding Arizona and booing the federal government.

  • Chris Perkins - 14 years ago

Once again I see the mentality of some people. We have clearly forgotten the rule of law, the definition of illegal, and the concept of fairness in asking questions....

  • Bui Nga - 14 years ago

I heard the 2010 Nobel prize 2010 and Nunez, are they the same? I am thinking about Greece paid the price for this country did around liberal things.

  • Rob Donica - 14 years ago

Loaded question---I didn't know that birth control being paid for by health insurance was a hot button issue (come on foxnews, I expect better of you than this) this was asked of the final winner, so yeah, he was trying to sink her in this pageant. I disagree with some of the posters here that it has anything to do with with Mr. Nunez heritage, as there have been as many people of European ancestry idiotically protesting our right to close and protect our border as anyone else.

Since over 60% of the American population favors the Arizona law, the answer is simple, turn off the t.v., don't go to the basketball games, don't go the cities or states that are boycotting AZ...give your business to AZ and your votes to the politicians that make are practical and accountable.

    Peace All

  • doug - 14 years ago

mr trump you have just lost one more fan for all your shows, you again let this happen and you knew this question was going to be asked. but what can one expect from a hollywood obama loving liberal

  • Paul - 14 years ago

It should definitely be illegal to enforce the law. That's my 2 cents. hahaha

  • Fight Ignorance! - 14 years ago

To Blaine - shut up... where is your heritage from, if you even know? Don't assume all latinos are Mexican. For the record Nunez is Cuban.

  • Blaine Hildebrandt - 14 years ago

Getting sick of "wetbacks", (hispanics) disrespecting American law. Those that disagree with the law are just your typical, lazy, mexican "moochers" wanting something for free. Go home mexican. Go home wetback. Go home moocher. go home.

  • Andrews - 14 years ago

You should have NO doubt that open borders/ethnocentric Hispanic advocates will stop at nothing to prevent ANYTHING that put a halt to the invasion of illegal aliens or their continuing to live as Mexican Nationals illegally in the USA!

  • NUNEZ_SUCKS - 14 years ago

F_YOU NUNEZ. You scumbag racist! Why didn't he ask the Muslim contestent that question? I'll tell you why, because he hates white people and he wanted her to lose. F_U ... and the Office

  • flyboy1949 - 14 years ago

hit-em where it hurts,,,in their ratings....i've about stopped watching all the liberal, hollywood nonsense, I use to enjoy sitting with faamily and watching these contests,,,no more!!!

  • TxQueen - 14 years ago

jayjay's explanation of the the question is correct.. he DID NOT ask her opinion, JUST whether the state or federal govt should enforce it..

And you're right, it is a beauty pageant, but these girls need to know about current political issues, and have an opinion on them. Those of you who say she shouldn't haven't been at a press conference or public event with a title holder there. People are going to ask her opinion on topics.. she better know what she is talking about

  • jayjayjj50 - 14 years ago

    * typo meant to write "praising her"

  • jayjayjj50 - 14 years ago

for your information me and my family marked an "X" on the "not of Hispanic origin" and a "X" on "white" on the census application. How many hispanics parents would name there son jay.

i dont have an issue with the contestant, i have an issue with the people parsings her. Seriously she is a hero for answering a simple question with a simple answer.

  • BILL - 14 years ago

PEOPLE SHOULD STOP WATCHING THE TV SHOW ((THE OFFICE)) TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THESE LIBERALS THAT THEY ARE TIRED OF THIER B.S.

  • lionamongsheep - 14 years ago

What is really sad is that anyone thinks a beauty pageant is relevant and worthy of such commentary. Besides the contestants knew that they might be asked such questions. I don't hear anyone complaing about the birth control question. Stop making the losers into victims. Morgan Woolard gave a very intelligent, and honest answer, unlike that crybaby Prejean who just gave a statement and didn't even answer her question.

  • jayjayjj50 - 14 years ago

"The "The Office" star asked Woolard if she supported Arizona’s law"

oscar said "the arionza immigration law which requires police to verify a person's immigration status if there's "reasonable suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally, critic say this would lead to racial profile(idiots boo), should this law be enforce by the state or federal govt"

please tell when he ask for her opinion of the law or whether she supports it or not(people are assuming she supports the law just cause she for state rights). sure he mention the arizona law but its only to set up his question about state rights. Just because he mentions the law it doesnt mean the question is about the law(another misinterpretation that would be corrected of people took comprehension classes).

    "both were ask explosive questions"

really asking if the state or federal govt should enforce a specific is considered an explosive question, wow society is dumbing-down at a much higher rate than I thought.

  • Because I Can - 14 years ago

Re: jayjayjj50 Tell me something , are you of hispanic decent? Because your answer spews it. Especially the last part " misinterpreting " and " assumptions " sounds like the people in arizona trying to dissect the new immigration law with out actually reading it. That question the judge asked was loaded and i like the rest of the people know it. especilally coming from a hispanic judge, questions like that have no place i n the pageant. Her being 1st runner up is a complete slap in the face and people wonder why we say the stuff we do! with that said, i hope so many more then the current 14 states follow arizona !

  • Keifer - 14 years ago

I agree with Woodsman. The question(s) shouldn't be asked if the judges are biased to the topic. The judges are obviously imposing their agendas and opinions when coming to a decision, when they should be respecting the contestants right to have such views and their right as an American to express them. She didn't spew any hatred on the subject and even said she didn't agree with racial profiling. The powers that choose the judges should find ones that are unbiased and fair, and not ones that will draw a bigger audience because they happen to be on a TV show or in the "mainstream" media.

  • Ahab - 14 years ago

Wheres some real news? and wheres my white whale?

    Ahab

  • titansidekick - 14 years ago

The "The Office" star asked Woolard if she supported Arizona’s law, which requires police to verify a person's immigration status if there's "reasonable suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally. Not much room for assumption error on that question, and i agree with her and commend her on her honesty in the face of idiocy as well as Carrie, both were ask explosive questions from OBVIOUSLY partisan JUDGES and there is no comprehension classes needed for that conclusion either

  • jayjayjj50 - 14 years ago

Only in America are people praise(woodsman1st calling the contestant a hero) for giving a rather simple answer to a rather simple question. "i believe in states" and the people go crazy like if she said something mind blowing.

"Nunez .... what do you think ?"

i see nothing wrong in asking whether the state or federal govt should enforce the new law. He didn't even ask for her opinion of the law. Being for state rights doesn't mean she for every law the state passes(people are assuming she for the new law just cause she for state rights). she might very well be for the new law but she doesn't state her support in the answer(again begin for state rights and being for a specific law pass by the state are two different things)

people are misinterpreting the question asked, people are misinterpreting and making assumptions base on the answer. seriously take some comprehension classes and watch the video again.

  • Watcher - 14 years ago

Church and political agendas have no place IN A BEAUTY CONTEST. Donald Trump's pageant once again stirs controversy. How very predictable.

  • norton - 14 years ago

Nunez .... what do you think ?

  • woodsman1st - 14 years ago

That question really sucks! The same thing when the homofagual asked Carrie PreJean about gay marriage. Questions should not be asked that are politically hot potatoes. Both Carrie and this beautiful young lady are heros and deserve awards for theri courage and honesty!
