Was Elisabeth's apology necessary?

Mrs. Hasselbeck shouldn't have apologized. She had a point, for someone that was devastated by the stalker incident, she sure is flaunting her body around. Besides, if not for the stalker noboby outside of us faithful ESPN watchers would know who she is. The horrible show that is The View is so far left, Stalin is telling them to back off. Thank you Mrs. Hasselbeck for being the only brightspot on the crappy show.

Just when I thought she couldn;t get anymore sadder.....Hasselback proves me wrong. For GOd's sake Hasselback....its a dancing show. Your comments was WAY OVER THE LINE......What this women went through with this creep peeping on nher was sickening. Perhaps you really should THINK before opening your BIAS...OLD FASHIONED...HOLIER THEN THOU MOUTH! You seem to be a very jealkous and bitter person...for reason I cannot figure out.......perhaps you should have become a NUN! Hasselback SHUT UP!

  • Dianne - 14 years ago

I do think Mrs. Hasselbeck (and a few of my fellow commenters) must understand that when it comes to circumstances involving sexual abuse of any type, i.e. the majority of the time the perpetrators are motivated by power over women and not lust. The way a woman dresses has nothing to do with why she is attacked, whether the attack is physical, verbal or in the manner it was for Erin Andrews. That being said, I agree that Joy Behar makes hurtful and hateful comments on The View a daily basis and is not made to apologize. I am not saying that just because Ms. Behar does it makes it okay for Mrs. Hasselbeck, but merely that if the producer(s) of the show are forcing apologies, then every panel member should be brought into compliance.

who realy cares who said what about whatever trivial & stupid, get a life people more things to worry about then this crap

  • Elm - 14 years ago

Elizabeth's comment was very tacky, and I'm surprised at her. She usually displays more class. Alexander stated very eloquently that no one, for any reason, deserves to be the target of a sexual predator or stalker.

I think that Elizabeth has gone too far again. I think it would be high time that this show gets cancelled. The views of Elizabeth are so far off that she looks like the idiot that she is.Maybe if she was being stalked she may understand better. So she is on DWS so what! She is showing the guy she is getting on with her life and will not be afraid!Stupid Elizabeth never keeps her mouth shut.I for one will be in heaven when the VIEW will finally be gone.THESE women are what America has to offer! A dumb Republican and a bunch of old ladies with noting to do.

  • Linda Peters - 14 years ago

Yes EH is a big mouth and needs to keep it shut Erin was not responsible for the preator that was stalking her I admir Her for going with dancing with the stars women have a right to wear what they want without someone stalking them or thinking that are asking for it EH doesn't have half a brain. No and I don't care for her on the view I think she has done for more than Star So what if Star used the View for some freebes for her wedding or didn't want to tell people how she lost her weight that's her business . And just maybe EH is just jealous because Erin is a beautiful young lady and maybe EH is jealous because she hasn't been invited to be on dancing with the stars. EH and Sarah Palin deserves each other they both have about the same IQ If EH is off the show good riddance I get sick of seeing her trying to take over the show and as for as Joy she often says that what she says is only her personnal opinion and no one elses To tell you the truth it wouldn't hurt my feelings if EH would leave the show and get some on with some personality maybe she needs to go on the road with Sarah Palin "Going Rogue" It just drives me nuts when some one wants to blame the victim

  • Hollywood Hater - 14 years ago

Isn't there a double standard here? It's ok for the big mouth red head on the view to spu here venom about behavior or people that don't agree with her but let a conservative give her opinion and she has to apologize for it! Unbelievable. The only "Hollywood" worth watching is the Discovery Channel.

  • Angie - 14 years ago

I love Elizabeth. I think she is top-notch and probably meant nothing by her comment. We all have made comments we thought were innocent or got a laugh but when we hurt others, we need to apologize.
I looked up the definition of apology, :1. (noun) apology
an expression of regret at having caused trouble for someone.
She did the right thing but we all need grace for off-handed remarks. He who has never made one can throw the first stone. Elizabeth is a class act!

  • rosalita - 14 years ago

Elizabeth H. did the right thing in apologizing for it shows class, but she did make a good point about Erin A. It isn't good sense to go out and act provacatively and expect people not to take note. As far as the View goes and some of the things some of the women have said about others, Edward from Miss is right, where are their apologies? Do they not have to measure up to Ms. Walters high standard for Elizabeth?

  • sammi - 14 years ago

Can't stand Hasselbeck. I think she is so fake and I can't stand how she forces her opinion on everyone else to the point that no one elses opinion matters. It's sickning. Shes not that special. I won't watch the Veiw because of her. She's got a big mouth and thats a big no in my book. Love everyone else on the show though.

  • mipanther - 14 years ago

While Hasselbeck's comments were out of line, look at how many over the top comments have been made about Sara Palin. The press is just more tough on conservative women.

  • Mem - 14 years ago

Elizabeth just showing how shallow she is, bad personallity. I wonder how she will feel is she will be a victim of stalker. Erin's privacy was violated. Period. I admired her for being courageous and strong.

  • Jae - 14 years ago

"Dress to lust men's minds"...?!? I'm sorry, what century are we living in???

Elizabeth's comments were wrong. I don't even like her, but I think it was good of her to apologize and I felt that she was truly remorseful. Really, who is even that surprised at the stuff that comes out of her mouth anymore? She has a pretty good track record of not thinking before she speaks. She has the right to her opinion, whatever that may be.

  • Enoughis enough - 14 years ago

Enough is enough. We on the right of middle have to deal with constant non stop attacks from the left with no apology ever coming. Screw them, let them enjoy the medicine they have used for so long. Was the comment out of line, yes, but so what. It pales in comparison to the multitude of comments coming from the other witches on that show and from the many on the left. No need to apologize, in fact, make more and make them more vicious. Sometimes it takes a bat to live through a bat attack. turning the other cheek and walking the high ground will not always win a battle. Sometimes you have to fight and fight dirty. The lady did not deserve the sicko and what he did, but Hassleback has a right to say what she wants without kneeling to PC crap, especially when it is only us who are ever expected to kneel. It is time to despise the left just as much as they despise us and give back as well as they give.

A co-worker of mine was stalked once, and it scared her to death. I do feel for Ms. Andrews. However, my firend who was stalked almost went into hiding. She stopped wearing make up, stopped styling her hair, and practically went into paranoia. I gotta wonder how much this affected Ms. Andrews if she still dresses the way she does, knowing that men are visually tantalized as we are. Regarding the double standard that's very apparent on The (Liberal) View, above all Christians are held to a higher standard of appropriateness, despite the constant derogatory statements spewed out by the other hosts on the show.

  • Ella Standfill - 14 years ago

Isn't the name of the show "The View"? Everyone has a point of view. All the other members of the panel make hurtful, political comments intended to hurt those who aren't in the same arena they are in on the subject. If Elisabeth was forced to apologize, next week I want to hear an apology from the whole panel!

  • Eva - 14 years ago

Although I agree that Elisabeth's comment was a bit hurtful and an apology was appropriate, I have to agree with the other comments here that Joy Behar has by far said much much worse things and gotten away with them. She is a wretched, bitter hag with a really nasty voice (reminds me of the nasal Fran Drescher). I stopped watching The View precisely for that reason. She's like listening to nails scratching a chalkboard.

  • Jodi - 14 years ago

Joy Behaar routinely spews bile on the show, do you respond with similar demands for her head, or are you a typical liberal who seeks only to silence those who don't agree with you?

  • sandra - 14 years ago

Elizabeth Hasselbeck was WRONG! Doesn't matter what a female wears....there is no excuse for sexual attacks of any kind. I agree with the person who posted that if you go to the beach, does every woman in a swimsuit deserve to be sexually harassed or attacked?? Elizabeth and Sarah Palin are two of a kind....self-centered, self-serving, know-it-alls who think the world should agree with everything they say & do....in reality they are both airheads. Hasselbeck should be fired!

  • Jodi - 14 years ago

Elisabeth certainly was thoughtless with her comment and was right to apologize. However, to suggest that she should be fired for voicing her opinion is ludicrous. Did you never hear the adage about sticks and stones? As a libertarian, I respect the free speech of all, not just that of those that I happen to agree with.

It's funny how the most conservative and Christian individual on "The View" is the one made to apologize for making off the cuff remarks about the questionable wardrobe choices made by Ms. Andrews. At the same time , those other "ladies" make the most vile and hurtful comments on a regular basis. Funny.

  • Mrs. Johnson - 14 years ago

Why should she apologize? Because she is supposedly a Christian and when we offend someone we should do our best to remedy the situation. We ALL say things we later regret. The difference between Elisabeth and those other women on The View is that Elisabeth has publically stated who she is and she is therefore to be held to a higher standard than the women who are just running their mouths for ratings and who are not Christians. Whether Erin should be on DWTS is not really the issue; if we don't value and protect people's (men's and women's) ability to have privacy and make choices, then what kind of country is this? If she felt she was ready to be on DWTS, then fine. It's her choice. Sheesh!

  • Sandra - 14 years ago

If these comments were made about your lovely Sarah Palin or some other god awful person you all adore, you would all be going CRAZY!! Such Hypocrits you all are, give me a break.

  • Charles - 14 years ago

Let’s get a dose of reality people. We all say things that we wish we could take back. This isn’t about politics, gender or another belief system other than common decency. Elizabeth realized she had said something that, upon consideration, could be taken incorrectly. It appears the comment was made in jest and not with malice; thus the heart-felt apology. I wish more people were as sensitive as Elizabeth. If we hurt someone else, no matter what reason – give a sincere apology. I do agree that the other ladies (and I use that term loosely) do not appear to have the same class as Elizabeth.

  • GG - 14 years ago

As far as I am concerned, HS girls and women in general, and especially women in the entertainment world have gone to far with showing off their assets... I won't go so far as to say anyone deserves anything harmful happening to them - what I will say though if woman are going exploit her body publicly for money and or attention expect sicko's to react, and others to tease you for poor judgment.

  • Linda - 14 years ago

I guess Elizabeth Hasselbecks message is that if a woman wears revealing clothing she deserves what she gets. I noticed she sat on daytime tv in a strapless dress and made her comments. I haven't seen her covered up like a pilgrim. As far as Erin Andrews, she hasn't worn anything the other contestants and participants haven't worn. Since she was pursued by a sexual predator she should walk around in a burlap sack from head to toe like she is at fault because he is a pervert? Hasselbeck is an idiot. She and others like her continue to set women back. Oh...on another note she needs to do something about those roots. They look awful!

  • wow2 - 14 years ago

Elizabeth: I am sorry we all think Andrews is prettier than you BY FAR and your husband secretely rubs them out all the time thinking about Erin. We feel your pain your jealous, shallow, loser.

  • jan - 14 years ago

If I were stalked in the way she was and my picture taken in the nude, I would not get up in public in skimpy clothes just yet. I think it would have been better to wait to let the episode die down. Yes it is unfair but we are all entitled to our opinion. An apology? Let it go.

  • Linda - 14 years ago

Alexander you are so right - I give you a lot of credit - women show more in bathing suites than the dancers show. Daytime television shows more than these women show, Victoria Secret commercials show more than these women show.

I wish I had the body to wear those outfits - she is a beautiful women - that does not give anyone the right to stalk her and take unauthorized pictures of her.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck is a Holyer than Thou person who should be fired from the VIEW

  • Alexander - 14 years ago

Conservatives are supposed to be classier than liberals. They are supposed to apologize for wrongs, and are not to be measured by the same standards as liberals....

    ...right?

So just because the liberals act like fools on the View and get away with it, that doesn't give Hasselbeck the right to do so.

  • Edward of Miss - 14 years ago

Why hasn't Mrs. Walters forced the three loonie toons on the show to apologize for all of the off the wall comments they made against Mrs. Sarah Palin when she was running for Vice President. Mrs. Hasselbeck did not need to apologize.

  • Pat Bowles - 14 years ago

I love Elizabeth. She did go a little far with that comment but I have heard MUCH MUCH worse from Joy Behar on :"The View." That is why I can't watch "The View" very often. Elizabeth should not get so much flack from people since Joy Bayar gets away with it all the time. But I have noticed on "The View" you get in more trouble if you make opinion statements that perhaps you shouldn't and are conservative but not if you are liberal.

  • Alexander - 14 years ago

Her privacy was violated. Period. She did not give this man the permission to spy on her body.

If a woman goes to the beach in a bikini, that doesn't give every man in the world then the right to stalk her and look at her when she washes all the sand off in a shower.

Use your brains, people, or get off the internet and get a sense of reality.

  • Michelle - 14 years ago

I love Elisabeth Hasselbeck, but her comment was totally and completely out of line. Neither Elisabeth nor the two commenters are in any position to criticize or belittle Erin Andrews. Erin Andrews was a VICTIM...she did nothing to encourage the pervert who violated her. Additionally, while I find the outfits on DWTS distasteful, all of you should be ashamed for making the jump that Erin Andrews got what she deserved!

  • kensga - 14 years ago

The only two comments so far are from women both basically attacking the victim, must be that time of the month or someones having a heat flash. Doesn't matter to me if erin andrews went out an posed naked or did a porno, her privacy was violated and I"m sure if either of these two had the same thing happen to them I wonder how they would take someone else's opinion.

  • JANET IRION - 14 years ago

I said to my husband when the latest season started on DWS that I was shocked that Erin Andrews, who was going from show to show saying how traumatized and afraid she was after the episode with the stalker, would go on this skin flick show. She truly must enjoy displaying herself. If she was so shy and introverted and scared from her experience, why would she be shimmying and strutting in a sexual manner for all eyes to see week after week?

Elizabeth took the notion a step further, but I think Erin Andrews enjoys all the attention she gets on the sidelines and otherwise. If I had just had a unsavory experience or encounter with the opposite sex, I would not be wearing fishnets and push-up bras and see-thru outfits.

Me thinks she is a phoney!

  • Unknown - 14 years ago

Shouldn't you have used a picture of Erin in costume from 'Dancing with Star's as it relates to your article?
Or was it too revealing to publish. Mrs. Hasselbeck's comment is right on target. If we dress to lust men's minds, there can be consequences. The 'View' is an opinion show and Erin, being in the broadcasting business, I think your tears were more fake than Elizabeth's apology.
