So if we had never heard of Miley before this video and she were performing on American Idol, would be expect her to perform any differently than this video???? I suspect this video would be acceptable by the majority if we hadn't watched her grow up on Disney. As the parent of an 18 yr old daughter, as much as I'd like to keep her young, she has developed her own opinions and views - she has grown up. Miley is doing the same thing and it is being reflected in her music. When Miley was 14 or 15, she was ok with writing and performing music for younger girls. Now as she's growing up, that gig is not her personality any longer and she wants to expand her music to a larger audience and there is nothing wrong or unexpected about that! i am very sorry that Miley has chosen the road most traveled. For children and teens with parents who talk to them about these things then it is just another teen star "spreading their wings", and a topic for discussion. What I am concerned for are the many girls who do not have parents as role models and do look to her as an image of confidence and modesty. Being 17 and doing that video are fine. That doens't mean it was smart for her to do it. Short term it is obviously getting a lot of attention and will probably be a winner financially. Long term, she wil need to do something much different. The visual aspect is good and the wings quite impressive along with the sound of thier deployment and how that fits in with the percussion. The melody and words are not the least bit creative. The overall sound is not the least bit creative. The attempt at shocking sexuality and almost kissing every sex and ethnic combination possible was done by Madona twenty years ago. Though I noticed she wasn't trying to kiss a priest. What many fail to realize it that she probably has a contract and some choices are out of her hands. I watched the twins become "of age" and go promptly downhill. I watched Lindsey Lohan and other successful teens do likewise and worse. Now the one teen that I thought would show good taste has taken the "sell your body and sing dirty lyrics route." That video is way too racy for a minor. A year or two from now she'll be an adult, but she isn't yet. She has been quoted as saying that she only has to please herself as she is an adult now and parents are responsible for their children. I see nothing wrong with the video. She is growing up..she cannot stay Hannah Montana innocent forever. It is not up to Miley or any other celebrity to "influence" kids. It is up to their parents. Personally, I thought the song was good, the video while "sexy" wasn't trampy, and I feel if her father felt it was going to be in poor taste, he wouldn't have allowed it.

i am very sorry that Miley has chosen the road most traveled. For children and teens with parents who talk to them about these things then it is just another teen star "spreading their wings", and a topic for discussion. What I am concerned for are the many girls who do not have parents as role models and do look to her as an image of confidence and modesty. Miley has already made a fortune, she does not need the money. You do have to ask where does this end? I think the results of that are fairly evident, for her and for the many who have grown up seeing her as a positive role model.
Being 17 and doing that video are fine. That doens't mean it was smart for her to do it. Short term it is obviously getting a lot of attention and will probably be a winner financially. Long term, she wil need to do something much different. The visual aspect is good and the wings quite impressive along with the sound of thier deployment and how that fits in with the percussion. The melody and words are not the least bit creative. The overall sound is not the least bit creative. The attempt at shocking sexuality and almost kissing every sex and ethnic combination possible was done by Madona twenty years ago. Though I noticed she wasn't trying to kiss a priest. Which brings me to the conclusion: the culture and the formula for breaking out when you are a child star is worn to the point of becoming tattered. What many fail to realize it that she probably has a contract and some choices are out of her hands. It is the director of the shoot who decides how it is done and if Miss Cyrus refuses to go along, she could be in breach of contract.

I watched the twins become "of age" and go promptly downhill. I watched Lindsey Lohan and other successful teens do likewise and worse. Now the one teen that I thought would show good taste has taken the "sell your body and sing dirty lyrics route." That video is way too racy for a minor. A year or two from now she'll be an adult, but she isn't yet. She has been quoted as saying that she only has to please herself as she is an adult now and parents are responsible for their children. Well, we are and we won't buy those albums; but I am disappointed in HER parents as they are letting her be too slinky for her age. Obviously she has not paid attention to the fates of the other teen goddesses before her. I would encourage Miley and her family to take a step back and view the real world.
