Everyone has to start out somewhere. Every great head coach started somewhere with no experience.

Greatest Hire in the history of Iowa State. He has it all and will give 1000%. The caliber of players he will attract will be unmatched....Who knows...Maybe Harrison Barnes might reconsider...

What we have in the new "Face" of cyclone basketball. Someone that the town, state wil rally around. If he surrounds himself with good x and o guys, they will pull it together. I for one am looking forward to ISU recruitting the state much harder.

Very risky hire with no coaching experience. Should have hired Billy Gillespie.

lets just hope he is as great a coach as he was a player.

After 10 years three teams and many NBA coaches I'm sure a player can learn a lot of what works and what doesn't for the coaches. Del Negro and I think others got their first NBA coaching jobs with know coaching experience on the high school, college or NBA level and he's had the young Bulls in the playoffs his first two years as coach.

I'll bet you one thing you won't be seeing as many wild passes from the Cyclone players as they had this past season or they will find themselves sitting on the bench beside the coach. That was one of Freddie's greatest attributes is not giving the ball to the opponent so they can score and I'm sure he will instill the importancef that in his players. Many games are decided by the difference in points scored on turnovers.

I have to disagree with John. I LOVE this hire. Cyclone fans are in desparate need of a polarizing figure who can bring some much needed hope and energy to this beloved program. I think Jamie has done just that. Also, all of the current players and recruits staying on board speaks volumes. Fred Hoiberg is a smart man w/ lots of college/professional experience. If he puts some experienced assistants around him, I honestly think he could turn this program around. Keeping TJ was essential from the recruiting standpoint and they have done that. I think his NBA background and (assuming) pro-style offense will be intriguing to many young talented players out there. Fred Hoiberg represents everything that's great about Iowa State and I hope the fanbase gives him their full support.

As far as Jamie Pollard... I don't think there's too many people out there that disagreed with the Gene Chizek hire and the Greg McDermott hire when they happened. He went after the top fb assistant in the country from a natl. championship program and after a guy that turned a dismal UNI program around that many teams in the country were after. Unfortunately, those guys didn't do the job, but I don't think you can fault Pollard for that... that was their responsibility. Therefore, he went after guys that were passionate about Iowa State and truly WANTED the Iowa State coaching jobs. It seems to be paying off so far w/ Rhoades, so we'll hope for the same with Freddie.

I'm calling it right now... better than .500 season next year and back in the NCAA tourney in two years!

I've never been more excited to be a cyclone! GO CLONES!!

Love Hoiberg............greatest hiring mistake in the history of the Big 12 conference. If it does not work, it will be just like Creighton taking McDermott----Jamie Pollard virtually firing himself.
