That wasn't the monster

He wasn't physically there but appeared as a vision

He lied about not being able to cross the water

It was a continuity error

The monster can shapeshift into people, like christion, ekos brother, dave, locke, but he still cant cross the water
he doesnt TAKE OVER their bodys
