Should Deakin drop out of the AZ Senate race?

Jim Deakin is not the spoiler.........Hayworth is the spoiler.

Hayworth needs to drop out and tell his supporters to support Jim Deakin........otherwise, Hayworth might as well give it all away to John McCain.

Mr Deakin has no chance - he has a choice to make, stay in the race and McCain goes back to the Senate, OR withdraw for the good of the State of Arizona and endorse JD Hayworth. It will be interesting to see what he will do, feed his ego at Arizona/America's expense or face reality and do the honorable thing.

The only thing that Mr. Deakin can do at this point is split the republican vote and be the reason we end up with McCain for another SIX YEARS....YIKES!! The thought of that makes me ill...

Please try to remembers why JD Hayworth and the other republicans were ousted from congress and the senate during the 2006 mid-term election. JD wasn't kicked out because he did a bad job as a congressman, but because the voters were either opposed to the Iraqi war or somehow disillusioned with President Bush and republicans in general. And as a result the republicans in office payed for that by being replaced with democrats. And just look where it's gotten us... I PRAY THAT DEAKIN AND HIS WIFE REALIZE THAT THIS IS NOT A GAME. Deakin should DO THE RIGHT THING AND GET OUT OF THE RACE AND BACK UP JD HAYWORTH BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. JD is the best man for the job, period.

While no one has earned my respect more than John McCain, that is in the past and for the present we must look at where McCain stands on some fo the issues. There are these that stand out in my mind, 1-McCain voted "NO" on the bill to make English our official US language. 2-McCain is convinced he must be politically correct in everything to the detriment of our beloved Country. 3-When McCain bellied up with the likes of senator Kennedy on immigration he lost my confidence in his position of politics or country. THAT'S MY THINKING, Frank

heres a thought, if you think hayworth is the lesser of the two evils "the other McCain" then rightfully, you should vote for jim deakon.and get rid of the both of them. the person that wins the primary will have an easy victory over any dem that is running. people say they want real change in congress and here is your opportunity to prove that in the up and coming primary. Jim Deakon should stay in. voters across america want REAL CHANGE ! not another recycled politition like McCain and JD Hayworth. Arizona has always been ahead of the rest of the nation on political issues, regardless of what other people think. ask yourself, if your fed up with McCain, and don't plan on voting for him, but you really don't want the other "Hayworth" then why in world would you vote for someone that you are not going to be satisfied with in the first place, don't waste your vote on McCain or Hayworth, do the right thing. and vote for Jim Deakon. Arizonians can send a clear message to washington, that enough is enough. and Jim Deakon is the only candidate in the race that will carry that torch to washington.

I stand by my forecast: McCain will win the primary and the McCain camp will thank Jim Deakin for sticking to his guns. There is lesson here that will be learned the hard way when an ideologically driven candidate takes on the political business of the party at large. Don't bite off more than you can chew. I did sign Jim Deakin's nominating petition. I've also been in the political fray long enough to read the writing on the wall. I am voting for JD Hayworth. And I'll put my conservative principles up against anyone, anytime who may accuse me of being otherwise.
    God bless and good luck.

Deakin is the ONLY choice you have. Mccain will be just more of the same double talk and screw AZ. Hayworth was voted out for good reason once. He is as untrustworthy as Mccain ever was. Hayworth didn't get the job done the first time why give him a 2nd chance?
Go with a man that has integrity and strenght of character, Deakin. He can win with your support. Remember the 4th candidate in this race is Hayworth, he could not make up his mind and then bought out the 3rd candidate. That sounds like politics as usual which is what we must avoid! Deakin has been in this race since the beginning. He needs and deserves your support.

Here is a real poll for you. http://www.gallup.com/poll/139409/Voters-Favor-Congressional-Newcomers-Incumbents.aspx

69% of Independents want a candidate who has never been in Congress
71% of Republicans want a candidate who has never been in Congress

If your only goal is to defeat McCain, then you should be telling the congressman to drop out.

  • Rosie Johnston - 14 years ago

McCain MUST NOT win the primary election or it is all over for Arizona. JD Hayworth is the only candidate running that CAN defeat what's his name. DEFEATING McCain is the goal - Jimmy Lee cannot get the job done - do not split the Republican vote. Vote JD - NO AMNESTY - among other things.

By the way - how is Jimmy Lee funding his campaign?

Deakin needs to stop this foolishness and allow McCain and J.D. to duke it out... I support J.D. all the way..

Keith. Your Liberty First PAC is a Nevada Corporation. Butt out of Arizona Politics. What is with the fake TEA Party addition to your PAC name. You couldn't get any support on your own so you had to pile on to the popularity of the movement?

What do incumbent senator and incumbent congressman have in common?
Neither secured our border - 6 years Republican House, Senate and President. They are both GUILTY.
Both grew the size of government and the National Debt.
Neither could defeat a Democrat in their last election.

You can Hope they have Changed. Hope and Change was Obama’s Slogan.

I am voting for FREEDOM, LIBERTY, and the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION

For those of you who think I should start in the state house, one more thing the congressman and senator have in common….

They both started their political career in the Federal Congress, not the state.

  • Pepper Draper - 14 years ago

People, don't fall for this manipulation! Our only choice is not between two RINO's. We have another choice and that is Deakin! If every voter who wants adherence to the Constitution will put their vote where it should go....to the true Conservative, then we will have the change we desire, but we wont if you fall for this manipulation.

Shame on you Republican Party for not trying to manipulate the voters into thinking that there is no hope for Deakin....what is the matter with you! Get behind the true Candidate who represents true Republicanism!

What kind of name is Party Loyalty? Is that John McCain's pen name? Or do you just march in lock step?

  • Party Loyalty - 14 years ago

I hate to say it, but McCain might win regardless. Let Jim live out his dream. I would d the same as him if I had more money.

  • Dean - 14 years ago

If Deakin were a true patriot and gentleman, he would bow out as he doesn't have a chance to defeat Mccain under these circumstances and he knows it with his 2%! The only one to benefit him staying in will be Mccain.
You call that "pro-freedom candidate", Jon? Study the issues.

While I think Jim is a great guy and with a little experience as a state legislator would make a great senator, at this point in time we need to look at electing an experienced wolf to the senate. Greenhorns will get chewed up and spit out, if not in minutes, in days. As far as JD is concerned, he gives a firm handshake, looks you in the eye when he extends his hand and speaks the right words. While he is careful in his speech, there is no doubt about his intent. Being voted out of office is a very humbling experience. If one is true to their own self, they must examine what they did to deserve that lack of confidence. I think JD has done the introspection and has learned much from the experience. In addition the time JD spent on the radio, dealing with all sorts of callers and emailers has helped him to better relate to his constituency and to maintain that relationship. If he joins the progressives in the senate and becomes that with which we are at odds, we have the power of the ballot to chastise him. Remember, it is our responsibility to keep politicians toes toasty. John McCain on the other hand is an arrogant, accomplished lying progressive and would like nothing better than Jim to stay in the race. We don't need a DIABLO as a senator for another term. Especially one we can't rein in.

Jim Deakin is a fine fellow. However, the mission has become a matter of removing McCain, period. The halls of the U.S. Congress have degenerated from an upholder of constitutional law to an outhouse of radical ideology, lusting for power and exempting itself from the burdens set by it upon the common man. This outhouse has been developing over several decades. It has been a matter of historical record that every time a Deakin type individual jumped into this outhouse, they have either resigned in frustration or did not seek a second term. I am of the opinion that Hayworth is better able to work in this level of "muck". If Hayworth holds to his commitment of only two terms and overall the US Senate returns to a better operating level (reduction of muck), than there will be a better opportunity for Deakin to pursue his aspirations. I also agree that by Jim Deakin remaining in the race, McCain and his big money voting bloc stand a better chance of staying in power. God help us! I hope Jim and his better half can see the situation from other than an aspiring underdog candidate.

  • rjdoria@cox.net - 14 years ago

There is not a need for a 3rd candidate in this Senate race. The 3rd candidate will only ruin the chances of J.D.Hayworth to make a difference.

  • Pat Smith - 14 years ago

If Deakin continues he may take just enough votes away from JD to force a win for McCain. If this happens, Deakin's hope of ever having a political career in the future will vanish! Nobody, on either side, will vote for a spoiler.

  • Bill Crosby - 14 years ago

We need to get rid of McCain!!! JD is not the greatest choice, but, the only one at the present time to defeat McCain! Remember the goal is to defeat McCain, and get someone somewhat competent!

  • Jon - 14 years ago

According to the Freedom Index Hayworth and McCain are pretty much the same. Deakin seems to be the only pro-freedom candidate.
