How do you like Starbucks' new Frappuccino recipe?

The new recipe is HOR-RI-BLE!! It taste and look like creamy milk with just enough coffee to make it taste horrendous. Whoever came up with this new idea did a very BAD thing. Even the people who work at the SB that I frequent dislike it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that dislike this change and no I will not eventually come around to liking the new one. I also don't get how people go to fastfood type places and complain about the unhealthiness. Fat gives taste to food which equals money. Stay home!!
I believe they changed the recipe to save money and are hiding behind the curtain of 'new and improved'. If they were really trying to 'up' the taste, they would have tested the new product all over the USA for 2 weeks and listened to feedback, instead of just being sneaky and surprising us with this nasty crapp of frapp.

I hate the new fraps. They taste awful! I was hoping the first three times i Ordered them the barista added too much of something or gave me the wrong drink. But after having a java frap my suspicion was confirmed that they changed the recipe....noo!! It takes like there's three shots of expresso and 4 shots of sh!t with a dash of ice. I hate the new recipe. I hope that starbucks brings back the old recipe and keep the new recipe for those who like it.

  • disruntled - 14 years ago

The new frap recipe is disusting. It has only the slightest hint of a coffee flavor, the consistency of a melted milkshake, and is too sweet. On top of that, if you want to add more coffee base so that it actually has a coffee taste, they charge 50 cents more for it!! This is a total ripoff. Additionally, even if one is willing to pay the additional fee, it still doesn't taste like the old formula. I have complained to Starbucks and they simply don't care. I have been told by the servers at the 4 stores that I frequent that half of the people don't like the new formula. When I told this to the customer relations department at Starbucks corporate office they claimed that is not what they heard. Clearly their facts are as diluted as the new fraps! I bought a venti coffee frap every day and I will now will have more money in the bank because I am not going to be purchasing them again.

  • Rich - 14 years ago

If Starbucks wants me to drink healthier I'm going to take $6.00 and buy a gallon of Tropicana orange juice. That should last me about 2 weeks. I'll save a LOT of money and won't have to put up with that lousy tasting new Frap recipe. They call it the" any you want it" drink. I WANT THE OLD RECIPE !!!!!!! By the way the McDonalds Frappe is pretty good although it's nothing like the original Starbucks Frap!

  • Morning Joe - 14 years ago

The new frap tastes like bitter chemicals.

  • perpetua - 14 years ago

I can't stand VIA, I can't stand STEVIA and I Cannot stand the new Frappuccino. The however you want it was customizable in the past and tasted good. The coffee lite, coffee, cream gum base mixes and more coffee flavor "VIA" are absolutely repulsive. Each of those ingredients cannot be made into the Classic flavor. No amount of sugar nor COCOA (that has sugar in it) can FIX the flavor so that it is the drinkable, much loved drink of the past. The aftertaste of Via and stevia lasts hours later and could actually be a cure for Starbucks entirely because one sip and I almost cannot even stomach their supposed espresso shots as they taste too much like the VIA now too (italian & whatever mix). The feeling each leaves in your mouth and texture of the drink itself is not appealing in any way. I feel sorry for anyone in other countries that will be getting the new frap (Japan, UK, Canada) and may have never tasted the Classic. I can see why they may bring ice cream to the store but even that could not cover the flavors up. I hope they do not put VIA nor Stevia in any of their future products. Isn't Xantham gum an laxative?

  • lisa - 14 years ago

I HATE THE NEW MIX! I've been buying this $5 drink 3-5 times per week for 6 years. When I got the new version today, I actually went back to the store 'cause I thought they made it wrong. DISGUSTING! It's way too sweet and not rich tasting like the old one. The only people who like the new mix are those who are getting totally different flavors than the original. If you want the original flavor, your going to be dissapointed. I'm switching to Caribou Coffee.

  • Kelly - 14 years ago

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. IT IS BETTER FOR YOU THAN THE CAFFEINE IN YOUR DRINK! CAFFIENE IS A DRUG, THE HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP IS A MODIFIED VERSION OF SUGAR. YOU PEOPLE HAVE ALL TURNED INTO SHEEP THAT ARE WILLING TO GOBBLE UP ANYTHING THAT THE MEDIA TELLS YOU WITHOUT HAVING AN OUNCE OF EDUCATION ON THE MATTER. IF YOU WANT TO BE HEALTHY, EAT PLENTY OF FRUITS AND VEGGIES, MINIMIZE THE FRIED STUFF, AND GET PLENTY OF EXCERSICE! BOTTOM LINE! OTHER THAN THAT, EAT WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO, AS LONG AS IT IS LEGAL.

AND AS FAR AS THE FRAPS ARE CONCERNED, I AM GLAD THEY CHANGED THEM BECAUSE NOW I CAN SAVE ABOUT $100 A MONTH NOT BUYING THEM ANYMORE.

  • Cerulea - 14 years ago

Just a head's up from a Starbucks Barista here. The new Light Base has not only gluten, but Stevia in it. If you can not have either one, then you're going to want to stay away from it. Nobody warned me when they gave it to me to try on training day. I ended up sick all night and part of the following day (I missed three hours of work because of it). I can not digest Stevia and never would have tried it if I had known what was in it.

But I *did* try the other new ones because I have always been in love with the Caramel Frappuccino and the Green Tea Creme Frappuccino.

Never again. If I wanted iced milk with a little bit of flavor, I'd just make that at home. These things are flavorless and disgusting. And before you ask, yes, we ARE making it properly. It doesn't have that rich, malted texture and flavor any longer.

What irritates me the most is that we *could* accommodate dairy-free and decaf customers before the switch. It wouldn't have been exactly the same as the regular frappuccino, but it's exactly the same as the current mix (minus the disgusting coffee base syrup which honestly looks like caramel-colored corn syrup). They didn't have to ruin it for everyone just to please the minority! Or they could have gone and made bases to suit those with special dietary needs as well. They wasted all this money on something none of my customers like! Our store is going to get shut down because of the drop in sales!

Honestly? I'm taking my money to McDonalds for a Frappe from now on. And I'm jumping ship before I am out of a job because of this mess. Thanks for nothing, Starbucks.

I HATE HATE HATE the new frap.

The new frap made me sick.

I have been a daily frap drinker for many years. Some days I would order two. A few weeks ago I started to feel very ill. The fraps were not tasting right, but I thought it was me because I was feeling so bad. Then the barrista told me about the new recipe. That was the last one I ordered. In 24 hours my sick issues disappeared.

I very much miss my daily Starbucks (o gosh it's a holiday I hope they are open) addiction.

Alas, I will find a new love....somewhere....some place must have a good treat....some company must want my $$$

    Goodbye Starbucks.

  • Joseph - 14 years ago

I bought a Frappuccino on most days for a few years until one day about a month ago the girl at my local Starbucks told me - after I had already bought my usual Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino - that they had changed it and to tell her if I didn't like it. Well, I tried it and first I thought it was fine, but a bit watery. As I kept drinking, I realized just how bland it was. For a drink that costs $3.50, I don't want something that tastes watery and tasteless. I found one Starbucks by my house that told me they had the old stuff in stock for a couple more weeks, so I drank theirs for a couple weeks and the difference was actually quite big.

Bring back the old Frapuccinno, at least as an option, and find a better way to appease those that want healthier drinks.

  • sydney alexander - 14 years ago

And, also, I am sorry to the ppl that have allergies to milk, but why would strbx change something that 95% of ppl loved, for 5% of ppl that couldnt have it, do u really think those 5% are gonna start drinkling enough to make up for our not coming anymore, the sad thing is that strbx is so smug,to think that 'eventually we will be back', I LOVE when the employees on these pages say these comments! Are u employees ready for the major loss of money that will be happening? Im sure u guys dont make more than $8 or $9 per hour, (even though MY drink costs $5.67!) and with all the money that WONT be coming in anymore, are u ready for NO RAISES, or benefits, cuz, even though u are all very cocky about this, the point of a business, is to get CUSTOMERS, and when they are unhappy, they dont spend their hard earned money there anymore, do u all think that u are the ONLY coffee place on earth!!!??! YES, yours was the BEST...BEFORE, but even micky d's crap is better than what ur offering NOW! GET A CLUE!!! DOESNT strbx READ the comments that are sent to them, do they look at the facebook page for strbx, the comments are 10 to 1 AGAINST the new drinks, if I were a share holder of starbucks, Id be selling, selling, selling!!!

  • sydney alexander - 14 years ago

KATHLEEN, if u want to really see some ppl that AGREE with you, go to facebook, type in the search bar, I HATE THE NEW FRAPPUCCINOS also BRING BACK THE OLD FRAPPUCCINO RECIPE. You will be pleased to see a lot of like-minded ppl, with a place to vent! And also have you called yet? The number is 1-800-23-latte....They told me that if enough ppl called, they would be FORCED to offer both eventually, they are getting a lot of negative feed back, but we need MORE!She offered me free coupons, but u HAVE TO DECLINE the offer, b/c if we continue to go to strbx, they will not feel the hit, they will think this was a HUGE SUCCESS and we have to be heard!

  • sydney alexander - 14 years ago

I think its very funny, these smug bastards at strbx, who think us hard core frap drinkers will "come around, and like it eventually" UH, NO! They are the nastiest thing Ive ever tasted, this is a 1-2 a day venti vanilla bean with 2 shots espresso drinker here! U are so confident that 'we will be back' well maybe u didnt notice, there are a lot of other places who offer a frappuccino type drink, and yes, I am the first to say, compared to the OLD fraps, they DONT compare, BUT compared to this New crap ur offering, Ill take a micky d's crappy frappy, ANY DAY! I understand that the 'occasional drinker' may not notice or even LIKE the new ones, but the occasional drinker doesnt spend $50 a week like us addicts did.!. To say that it's however-u-want-it, is COMPLETE FALSE ADVERTISEMENT, because if we want it the old way, we can not, and the answer I get when I ask if they could offer both options is "this would be very confusing" TO WHO would this be complicated for??? To say, classic, whole milk, soy WHATEVER! This isnt too hard for ME to say, are you saying ur baristas are too stupid to get this right? They are making drinks five times and they still are NASTY!I fefuse to even buy the canned or bottled ones I USED to buy, when I had to work and strbx was closed, I cant even get my beloved chai latte anymore, b/c I cant stomach the idea of giving my hard earned 5 bucks to a company, who obviously doesnt give a CRAP about its faithful customers and the thousands Ive spent over the last ten years!Check facebook and see the I HATE THE NEW FRAPPUCCINO and the BRING BACK THE OLD FRAPPUCCINO RECIPE pages dedicated to only ppl who USED to be die hard fans, and now, completely despise this company now. It seems to me, by the comments Ive read on the web, the ONLY people defending these are EMPLOYEES! And I work in a restaurant and I know if only our EMPLOYEES LIKED something, and most of the customers did NOT, we would not be making much money! US ADDICTS have given you years of dedication, and this is how you show your gratitude?!? Cocky comments and spitting in our faces!!! Thank you strbxYOU ARE NOT the only coffee company on earth, I know you think u are, but u will see in a few months, when this has kicked u in the ass! UH, REMEMBER how well ppl responded when the took coca cola away, people went BAT SHIT, and I think that gut who thought of that idea, he is still trying to LIVE THAT ONE DOWN! You dont mess with a classic, and you DONT mess with ppls coffee!!!!!!

  • SkagitMomma - 14 years ago

Love it! Although, since I am allergic to dairy, it sucks to have to pay extra for the soy. Maybe a doctor's note?! Seriously, I am addicted to the Dark Cherry Mocha. I was recently in AZ and the Frappucinos were a great way to cool down. It is nice to be told 'we can do that' instead of NO when ordering one wanting soy.

  • Kathleen - 14 years ago

The new mocha light frapp is disgusting. I was so glad to stumble on these comments and find that other people agree! Starbucks, ARE YOU LISTENING??? Maybe when you see how much money you lose on this, your ears will perk up....

  • Karen - 14 years ago

Thanks Starbucks for offering decaf, soy Frappucinos!!! The fact that you offer soy is the main reason I go to Starbucks for my coffee. And now I can order a soy Frappucino!!! I have had 3 in the past week. Love it!

  • Cheryl - 14 years ago

I tried one today, the mocha lite frap. I thought it was great because it doesn't have the lousy aftertaste of most diet drinks.

  • Sharon - 14 years ago

I can't stand the new frapps!!! I was a loyal Starbuck's customer (once a day during the week, maybe twice a day on the weekends!) and I have to agree with just about everyone else - the frapps are now horrible and I'm done trying them (it's useless, really!). I guess I have to actually thank Starbucks because they will now save me a ton of money!!!!

  • Andreana M Lewis - 14 years ago

Well considering I had a 2-3 x a day habit. I hate the new FRAP. But I am saving money, and I may even loose some lbs due to this. Its been about 3 weeks and I have had no desire to drink it. Its like having a diet coke
and u drink regular coke. This is worser than the Frap Light. I have been drinking Jamba Juice instead since they switch it up. Wonder how much money has the big Green Straw lost behind this? Whos great idea was this. And was it cost effective to switch?

Well hopfully some big wigs will read that were not happy and want our old thang back. TIL THEN SAVIN AND NOT SIPPING STARBUCKS!

  • Gisele - 14 years ago

Previously, the frappuccino was the perfect blend, consistency, and flavor. You could actually taste the coffee in your drink. Starbucks should stick to what it does best. The new mocha frappuccino is far too much like a chocolate milkshake. It's much too sweet and is something more fit for the taste buds of a bunch of grade-schoolers at a birthday party than a dedicated Starbucks customer. Moreover, the consistency is far too runny. What happened to the ice and the coffee in the Starbucks "ice-blended coffee?!" I hope Starbucks seriously reconsiders this disaster.

  • sean - 14 years ago

the new mocha Frappucino is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!! me and many other will no longer be returning to starbucks!!! good thing there so many other good places to get coffee!!!!

  • randilos85 - 14 years ago

please bring the old frap back .and i will bring my $ 3,000 back a year!!!!! the new ones are nasty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Robin - 14 years ago

I'm so thrilled that it's not just me - I've tried 6 different Mocha Frappucino lights from 6 different locations - and they are all VILE!!!!The last Starbucks barrista reduced the amount of milk and increased the amount of ice so...finally...the consistency is right but, unfortunately, it still had that horrible aftertaste!!! I spent more than $2000/year @ Starbucks but the romance is over- I'm going to figure out how to make my own Frappucinos @ home and, once I've figured out therecipe, I will send it into this blog.....

  • JM - 14 years ago

I am so sad that they've ruined my beloved frappuccino. I am halfway through a grande cinnamon dolce right now and it tastes like I'm drinking slightly flavored milk. They told me they could add extra shots, more syrup, etc. to give it more flavor, but I like to keep it simple and just order the drink as it is. I don't want to have to hang around and have them experiment to see if they can find the flavor I'm looking for. In all, I am very disappointed that I can no longer look forward to enjoying my daily Starbucks frappuccino. One positive is that I'll certainly save some money now, but I do hope they bring the old style back.

  • Karen - 14 years ago

So DISLIKE the new Frapp......Have been a daily Sbux customer (sometimes twice a day) and thought the first few times could have just been poorly made drink-- but sadly no......It's like drinking an iced coffee or really cold chocolate milk-- and yes- I know I can "customize" the flavor-- but that won't fix the consistency or rid it of the aftertaste.....guess I'm going to be saving money!! (and no-- free coupons won't make me like it....)

  • Lauren - 14 years ago

I love it! I have a dairy allergy and have not been able to have a beloved carmel frap in years. I'm surprised it took this long to do it but I applaud them for making the move and tampering with the recipe.

  • sydney alexander - 14 years ago

And not only will I not buy from your stores, I will not buy the 10-15 drinks I bought in the grocery stores as well, see, I used to by the canned and bottled drinks, when it was late and the starbucks were closed, but I refuse to give you one more cent that I've worked so hard for, until you hear us, even my beloved chai latte, I will live w/o, I want you to feel our absence. And you will, maybe you dont remember the New Coke fiasco, see how good that worked out, huh? You dont mess with perfection and you def. dont mess with ppls COFFEE!

  • sydney alexander - 14 years ago

HATE 'em! And I was FAITHFUL for the last ten years, thanks for showing how much you appreciate our business, and the thing thats pissing me off the most, I'm sick of all the whiners who WORK at starbucks, saying how they hated making the old base. Well guess what, Im a waitress and theres a lot of things I HATE making, but I have to cuz its my JOB! If we dont come to the store, you wont have a JOB, so stop complaining on how youre so happy about the new ones b/c of this, thats really not the point, and I was told by a strbx rep. that it would be really HARD to offer both choices, REALLY! Well it was REALLY hard for me to work my butt off to get the money to to buy a $5.67 drink. So, maybe you should show a little customer appreciation for my many years of buying your product. How hard could it really be to make a mix?!? And ask the customer 'original base, or new?" Doesnt seem like rocket science. Maybe the billions weve spent isnt important to you,and stop offering us free coupons, WE DONT WANT EM! We are not coming back til you listen to us, and maybe you should check the many facebook pages that are already set up in protest, are you guys BLIND! Your customers are OUTRAGED!

  • Pam H. - 14 years ago

Oh, one more thing: To all of you who are happy because of the "dairy free," "no high fructose corn syrup," version of the frap? Go to a health food store! Don't take away the pleasure of those of us who like a drink with FLAVOR just so you can drink something disgusting and feel good about it because it's "healthy". We don't go to Starbucks because it's healthy...We go (or used to) because we loved our frappuccinos. You wouldn't understand.

  • Pam H. - 14 years ago

I absolutely HATE the new frap! It is totally disgusting - there is no hint of coffee, chocolate, or anything - just a tasteless, chalky blend of something that leaves a horrible aftertaste. It's not even icey anymore. The people who like the new one are obviously NOT true diehard mocha frap drinkers. Let them keep their vile, nasty version as an "option", but give us back our old frappuccino! Starbucks was my absolute favorite coffee place of all time and the amount of money I've spent there over the years reflected just how much I loved going there for my frap fix...Now I, along with my friends and everyone else I talk to, will spend our money elsewhere!

  • Cindy - 14 years ago

I'm about to get rich and skinny. I was drinking two Fraps/day and have had quite a few of the new type and tried several different customizations to see if any come close to the taste of the old ones. They're all repulsive. Never thought I'd say it, but I'm done.

  • OldFrapFran - 14 years ago

Sorry, typo mistake. I meant "No more Starbucks Frap for me...." I guess that one of the effects of withdrawal.....

  • OldFrapFran - 14 years ago

New Frap.... horrible ! A Frap-addicted is not the same as drinking a Frap once in a while or a "just-went-ahead-and-tried-one." I drink it every day and often times, 2 times a day. Of course, I would know the difference when there's a change ! Yucckiiiiii ! No more for Starbucks Frap me. Bye-bye Starbucks....... Note : Some people don't care about the calories (like me). The only thing that matters is the taste.

  • Cindy - 14 years ago

The new frappaccino is disgusting and does not have the Starbucks taste at all. Please bring the old one back and gain $1000.00/month again from my husband and I.

  • denise - 14 years ago

I dislike the comments of those who are glad to have an 'OPTION'!!!!! Where are you getting an option????? In NC we only have the new frapp....to me that is not AN OPTION!!!!! I hate the new one, it is sick tasting trying to get it down and worse if you do get it down!!!! I WOULD LOVE AN OPTION to have the old one back. I think it is great to have the new drink for those who want it, but why do we have to do without completely. Why was SB so dumb in cutting their profits in half instead of having both the old and new and then doubling their profits!?!?!?!?!?!? We were drinking 4 a day....so i guess i am saving money and SB is losing out!!!!!

  • Katie - 14 years ago

Tastes like blended sugar water followed by a bad aftertaste. Booo! I want MY old Frappacino back!

  • Niniann the barista - 14 years ago

I love them. I didn't like the old Frappuccino, and I hated making the bases every night (they were chunky and had a weird consistancy). These taste much more like something I'd blend at home, and I love how smooth they blend. I'm a little miffed about the xanthan gum in the syrup bases (not in flavor syrups), though, as I know several people who are allergic.

Mimi- we use whole milk in the Frappuccinos as 'standard.' If it tastes too much like a milkshake, try a lower fat milk. It isn't quite as ice-creamy.

  • Joan - 14 years ago

I find the new frappucinos really disgusting... I was hoping that it was just a mistake for the first few times, but after trying a few times, and trowing some in the garbage (what a waste of money) I realized that I'm done with the frappucinos... no way I'm paying 5 dollars for this drink. I can make it myself at home. The original was soo good, and could not be copied no matter what. The new one tastes like water with bearly any sweetness in it, and no taste of coffee... very weired.... I will not buy Frappucinos again, until the old recipe comes back.

  • Michelle - 14 years ago

Because I'm lactose intolerant I couldn't drink the old ones. Now that I'm able to have them made with lactose free milk, I can actually have them. Also, because I can customize them, I can make them calorie friendly. So far my favourite is a decaf, light, tall, sugar-free cinnamon dolce, lactose free, no whip, frappuccino blended coffee. :) Only 80 calories.

  • Steve Lockitch - 14 years ago

I have heard no many negative things about the new Frappucinno's I decidded to try one with my free drink coupon so I got a Venti dark cherry one with an extra shot of dark cherry and breve and I really liked it. Not a lot but I liked it and I like that there is no high fructose corn syrup which is bad for you. Next on I get, again with a free drink coupon, will probabloy with twoextra shots of dark cherry and less ice.

  • Mimi - 14 years ago

    Disgusting ! I feel that I'm drinking a chocolate milk-shake. Yiiiiikes !!!!

  • DZ - 14 years ago

Even though I have yet to try it, I'm glad to see there's a dairy free option

  • Amy - 14 years ago

I've always asked to have my iced, decaf, vanilla latte blended...cause I wanted non-fat milk and DECAF coffee! I also like this with the caramel latte.

Hopefully, I won't get really weird looks now when I ask for this and they will be able to accommodate my decaf request!

  • NewFrappucinorox - 14 years ago

I like the fact that there is ZERO high fructose corn syrup and the customization. MUCH fresher taste. Those who are freaking out will come around when they find nothing like it!
