My preferred answer wasn't a choice...depends on the candidate and their positions.

For most of my adult life I have voted for the person or the issue, and never voted a strict party line; that's the path taken by the lazy or uninformed...the easy way out so you don't have to think. However, the elections in November and in 2012 MUST be against all Democrats and Rhinos! If we are to save America from sheer disaster, there is no choice; we simply cannot take the chance of the Socialist Progressives retaining control and continuing on their path of the DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA!
Walt Minnick IS a good Democrat; I have spoken to him personally and he stands behind his word; most of his votes are acceptable; MOST of them! But not all; Walt is, afterall, still a Democrat. America simply cannot take a chance on the next two elections; ALL DEMOCRATS AND RHINOS MUST BE VOTED OUT! Every vote will count; and every seat lost by the Dems and Rhinos is urgently needed. Please, do not vote for Walt Minnick! America cannot afford to take the chance.

I thought there was a big deal made that the Tea Party wasn't endorsing ANY candidates?

Not knowing what Vaughn Ward stands for, I can't say whether the Tea Party Express's endorsement of Minnick is a good idea or not. It does seem a bit odd that they wouldn't talk to all candidates before making a choice on an endorsement. And if I were the person making the decision in the Tea Party Express, I would seriously consider other Tea Party statements against endorsing any specific candidate. Endorsing a Democrat because he's not bad, and it shows that we're not just a branch of the Republican party sounds like the Tea Party in Idaho is making political statements instead of standing for Tea Party principles.

They should not support any Democrat at this time. The majority of the left has to be stopped as soon as possible. When that has been accomplished, issues need to drive the support.

NO WAY should a TP member vote for a (D). Dems can, and will, be bought by the progressives. Anyone who doesn't see that after this HC fiasco simply isn't paying attention.

I'm leery of tea parties endorsing anyone but the GOP needs to understand that they're not the default tea party choice. They damaged their brand and will have to convince us that they're worth voting for.

I live in Idaho, but not the second district. I've heard both cantidates speak but Vaughn Ward's conservative credentials are stellar. Minnick is as good of a Blue Dog as you'll find in the House. But the best thing he could do for his political career would be to switch parties or join the ranks of the other defeated Dems come November 3. My prediciton, Vaughn Ward will turn ID District 2 RED. This Idahoan would not vote for any House Dem and risk another term for Madamme Speaker Pelosi.

Minnick is the type of pragmatist who could eventually switch parties. He's a successful businessman; not a conscienceless attorney. If supporting him gets moderates and Dems to actually vote for conservatives, then I think it is a good idea.

While I don't want to see Democrats retain control of the House, and while small-government Democrats are rare, the Republicans have NO small-government credentials at this point just on the basis of their party. In large part, the Republicans lost in 2006 and 2008 because small-government independents - what we now think of as the tea parties - abandoned them in droves, mostly staying home on election day. The Republicans have a long way to go still to earn back the trust they squandered between 2000 and 2008. Being squishy about repealing Obamacare is certainly not helping.

  • Michael Kennedy - 14 years ago

The poll was too simplistic but the fact that a couple of Democrats get endorsed gives a few more some motivation to be a bit more independent and lets the GOP know that the tea party is not the Republican equivalent of the black vote.

  • reality check - 14 years ago

Ummmm...why should we just vote for republicans? If I remember correctly, there were a lot of Republicans voting for Medicare D and other nanny state proposals. We need fiscal conservatives in both parties, not one party rule.

  • Gridlock - 14 years ago

Where does the Tea Party stand on Dodd's financial reform bill? Is the tea party for regualting the banks and wall street or against it?

  • Bob Thompson - 14 years ago

Understand how the Tea Party spokesperson is thinking, but I don't buy it. A vote for a democrat anywhere along the way is a vote for what we have been getting lately. If the democrat is worthy of this endorsement, then he should switch parties and run as a republican.

A better explanation by the spokesperson would be to tell us why the candidate being endorsed is a democrat.

  • Jerome - 14 years ago

Idiots. A Democrat in that seat and a Republican NOT in that seat gives Crazy Aunt Nancy two more votes.

  • Posey - 14 years ago

There are no conservative Democratics anymore. The Democratic party left them when Soros took over.

  • David - 14 years ago

I almost said unsure, but honestly, I don't know a democrat who has voted in line with the tea party's ideals. And I find it interesting that in the tea party express's response, they didn't say Minnick is MORE in line with their ideals than other candidates, they simply seemed to say he was adequate. Isn't the point of the tea party to endorse someone who is TRULY fiscally conservative, and not just fiscally conservative some of the time?

  • jack - 14 years ago

the Tea Party should under NO circumstances vote for any Democrat because Democrat means a Progressive Liberal Socialist Democrat. So if there was such a thing as a Conservative Democrat then they are too stupid to realize the Democrat party is now totally and unequivocally controlled by True Believers in Socialism as described by Saul Alinsky in Rules for Radicals.

  • scot - 14 years ago

voted unsure, Reason being is that they should if the Dem candidates priorities are in line with the tea party movement. This wont happen very often though.
