HEY PETA! HOW MANY ANIMALS HAVE YOU KILLED TODAY!

You never see an eco-terrorist group like PETA attacking and throwing red paint on a biker in leathers, but they will pick on somebody's grandmother in a rabbit jacket. What a bunch of "Panty-Waste"!

The kitten doesn't look uncomfortable at all. And I have held my cat like that before and he doesn't mind.

These are some of the same people who favor abortion. Which is more cruel? Holding a cat by the scruff of the neck, which doesn't hurt them in adulthood by the way, or ripping a human body apart and disposing of it like garbage? Some people's priorities are screwed up royally.

PETA is only concerned with getting their name in the news. It doesn't care at whose expense. Let's remember they also went after President Obama when he killed a fly. I wonder how many PETA members hasn't done that in their lifetime? Come on folks let's it's time to stop going totally overboard with saving all creatures large and small. And start to think about helping humankind.

This is absurd. Yes, if a full grown, overweight, cat is rapidly picked up by the scruff of the neck, it could cause it discomfort. However, it is also a very legitimate method for moving a young cat, such as the one in the picture. Due to the instinctual programming, the cat will become much more submissive when held by the scruff of the neck, without suffering any long term damage.

Due to the fact this is a single still image, it doesn't provide enough information to determine why she decided to hold it this way, and the fact PETA declared it incorrect is absurd. If the cat had been worked up at all or just come out of a carrier where it might have been trying to catch hold of the handler with it's claws, it would make perfect sense to not have a second hand near it. Of course that's neither here nor there considering there isn't anything physically wrong with the method displayed, but rather that it doesn't "look" as affectionate as a person holding the cat like a teddy bear.

My vet picks up our cat that way when moving it around in the office. It keeps the cat under control. Now if your cat is 20lbs overweight....shame on you!!!!

  • Shirley - 14 years ago

The weight of an adult cat makes this practice potentially harmful to them. Kittens are small and it does not harm them when momma picks them up this way. This is information I have read/gotten from multiple sources, including from my vet.

PS: that was twice a day.

My wife gave two diabetes shots to our cat in the scruff of the neck and never a whimper. They don't feel it.

Come on B jorne! You need a fastball upside the head to clean the schit out.

  • bigdaa - 14 years ago

    Time to beat a Peta.

  • matt - 14 years ago

I agree. What does PETA add to anyone's life, human or animal? They need to disband and do something of importance. They are just a bunch of left wing liberal do-gooders with a sense of self-importance. What a waste of money to support PETA. They are an annoying group that should not be regarded by anyone. Oh, and by the way Dave, you are just a p@##y - pure and simple.

she should be tossed in jail. FOR LIFE!!!!

  • John Saint - 14 years ago

She can lift me up from the sack for all i care. Stupid cat doesn't know how good it has it. BTW it does look like a kitten to me too.

  • Bob - 14 years ago

It's a shame that people are more concerned with animals (whales, polar bears, kittens) than they are of humans . Seriously, PETA needs to mind their own business.

  • Judie - 14 years ago

Kim doesn't look like an animal lover - how would she like to be picked up that way? Animals like to have their feet firmly on the ground or something - go pick up a possum or something!

  • judy - 14 years ago

PETA needs to start looking for missing children, or help take care of the ones with no families. Seriously, get a life!

  • Steve - 14 years ago

That cat doesn't look very full grown to me...

  • jeff - 14 years ago

Tell PETA to shut up!. This looks like a kitten to me. It looks pretty happy. I have held a cat when it wasn't happy. They don't need PETA to speak for them They will let you know! I got the scratches to prove it.

  • jon - 14 years ago

kitty cat doesn't look hurt. looks like it is happy just to be that close to Kim now that she is single! Meowww!

  • Dave - 14 years ago

Sorry folks! I'm no friend of PETA but in this case they're correct. A kitten CAN be safely picked up in this manner but a full grown cat needs support on the other end at ALL times.
Same thing goes for picking rabbits up by the ears. Big no-no!
Keep in mind that just because they don't object doesn't mean they're comfortable!

  • tom - 14 years ago

becasue of Peta I will a double double or mabey triple juciey burger.

  • reagancouldhave - 14 years ago

Which cat did PETA speak to that claimed they were hurt by picking them up the way they were designed?

  • kim - 14 years ago

Ok seriously, PETA needs to disband! I've had cats all of my life and I'm the type of owner that goes the extra mile for my pets. However there are times that I've picked up my cats by the scruff of the neck and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has ever happened to my cats by doing this practice. UGH I hate PETA, I bet they are secretely gov't run, they just have to have their nose in everyone's business!
