It makes me so sad that this Mom was so unprepared for what might be. Being a parent is not easy, diid anyone ever talk with her prior to adoption? I really wonder what her homestudy was like and how much her social worker acutally got to understand the person, the adult, who was about to take on the care of a vunerable and possibly emotionally hurt child. Love is not a switch that instantly gives light to dark situations. Love is the fuel which helps you find posibilites in a dark future. Love is not a given in adoption, it has sometimes to be worked at hourly, nevermind daily. The "dream" may soon disappear when the reality lives in your home 24/7. Parents ... all parents adoptive or not need to understand this. Parents, all parents need to know that love of a child my not happen, but responsibility for the childs care is their duty. If they cannot find their way through then the social services must be there to help them through. We as a community need to remember that as we map out our governance.
