The problem is that most people voting for bourbons have only tried one or two and vote according to what they have experienced. Give a guy like me, 69 years old and with six years of Army life, a chance and we have tried just about every damn booze out there. At one time the best thing to drink was the cheapest. I still remember Dixie Belle Gin...is it still made? Now that I have more money than time, Basil Hayden is the best darn bourbon out there. Trust me. Hey, would I lie just to have a date with your sister?
Haha. Thanks for the comment Skip. You are probably right. But things are changing a bit. Bourbon and American whiskey is under going a bit of a come back. People are getting to be more familiar with new labels. But my opinion is that bourbon is the alcohol with the least correlation between price and quality as a whole. I will have to check on the Dixie Bell.
Kind of a slanted survey. 3 of the 5 are from Beam's small batch collection, one is not a bourbon and the other stand on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. At least meantion a few other distilleries or different mashbills. Perhaps something like this: Elijah Craig 12 WL Weller Special Reserve Knob Creek Wild Turkey 101 Old Charter 10 Woodford Reseve Jim Jack
I had the rare opportunity to attend a bourbon tasting, which only being 23 seems very rare to my friends. When picking a whisky in general I tend to focus on two main qualities. First of course being the price, I am after a college student with limited income. Second, being the most important, is the overall experience. I will always enjoy a well poured glass of Knob and an after dinner cigar. My favorite bourbon, for overall experience, was an absolutely amazing bottle of Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 23 Year, but the perfect all around choice for me still remains to be Knob Creek.
