I believe that it is not the animal's fault to simply act within the bounds of their nature, and that euthanizing the whale would be the ultimate human mindset of "My pet is being bad, now I will punish it." These animals are not pets, regardless of how well they may perform due to their natural intelligence. Keeping them captive is a good way to examine their natural functions, at least the few which remain consistent when in captivity as opposed to in the wild, but expecting them to behave as only performers and not as a very adaptive and survival oriented species is completely ludicrous. Animals will behave as they wish to, and we, as humans, have no right to ask them to do otherwise, no matter how much money we make off of them.
I would also like to state that releasing the whale back into the wild after such an extended bout of captivity would be as good as murdering it, because it will have been completely separated from its family and has probably lost most of its ability to hunt effectively in the wild.

how about we release it to the wild were he belongs..... take me away from my family and put me in a confined space and i think i'd eat your ass up too eventually...... think about it.... i wish i could confine half you retards so you could feel what itslike to swim in circles in a small ass tank. its not right!!!! Please people, we take a wild animal, feed it dead fish, force it to perform, then expect it to act "humanely" really, the root word of that word is "human". Free Willy people, it's not that hard, if he kills in the wild, it's what he is supposed to do. If he were human, killed three people, what would we want to do then, yes, kill him. but he is not human, do not expect this beautiful animal to act humanly. If it were in fact the pony tail issue, how many toys does he have that resemble the pony tail. Girls, cut your hair or put it back. It's not that hard. God bless all those involved.
