Is The Mahindra Pickup Ugly?

I first voted fugly then after reading the funny and insightful comments, I hereby change my vote to "no, I like it" I missed the point and niche of this functional truck. The last comment about gas mileage hit home, what a short memory I have, I forgot about hovering near $4.00 a gallon and diesel being there. However, with a capable truck like the Mahindra you can drive down the road with a smile, especially when you know how much your saving on gas. One more thing, what better test grounds for battle hardened vehicles than the roads of India? They don't have super highways like we do, I visualize ruts, potholes and gravel. I'm sure this truck was designed to handle it all and with their tractor experience, I think it will do very well here.

I have been trying to get this truck for 3 years now. The point isn't looks, it's $3.00 per gal. With $4.00 per gal in the near future you had better find a 30 mpg truck. It is obvious at this point that the big 3 auto dealers call the shots when it comes to competiction with imports. Whats really ironic is that Ford has a 30 to 45 MPG + pickup but they won't release it to the public. MAYBE THERE MAJOR STOCK HOLDERS DICTATE THE MILLAGE SINCE THEY ARE ALL PETROLEUM CO"s. Well i have resorted to the black market to get my Mahindra truck!

This truck is ugly the way the original VW "Bug" was considered ugly by the American public. I would be very interested in purchasing the two door version of this vehicle. As previously mentioned, I'd like to see a manual (5 or 6 Speed) transmission, bench front seat and a minimum of "bells & whistles" in a "base" model as the price leader for the Mahindra company.

Really like the rustic/retro look of the profile and back. The grill is trying to look modern and therefor plastic... too bad. Wish it had the same retro charm.

Jason’s got it right. I’ve been waiting a long time for such a vehicle: a compact pickup with stellar payload capacity and fuel mileage. And let’s not forget its clean diesel engine . There is currently no such pickup in the market. As far as my trucking needs are concerned, looks are the last thing I care about. Give me a solid, utilitarian truck and I’m happy.

It is a vehicle that only a mother could love, the interior is nice. The payload, mileage, and towing capacity make it a winner!

Ugly, lock it up? Lots of people are ugly on the outside but are good looking on the inside, do you think that we should lock them up also?

Why not just continue the design statement and morph it into a people carrying SUV with payload/towing capacity? Looks good, like an old friend. Ditto the '72 LandCruiser comment, CD. No better looking utility vehicle than that one. Wish they'd update the technology in it and put it bzck on the market.... but fix the brake pedals first!

    Ugly in a badass way!

I love it. I love all sturdy utilitarian vehicles. Hope it has rubber floor mats, drain plugs to let you wash the dirt out of the inside, a place to sit on the inside fender well to change the plugs and air cleaner,..... I could go on. Anyone miss the beauty of the interior of the 1972 LandCruiser?

It looks like a loading area tacked onto the regular indian mahindra scorpio. Even the wheel arches on the back door have been left intact - remnants from the indian suv lineage. The single cab version OTOH looks much better and in proportion.

The point is not the looks of it. The points that make it attractive are, the engine, the economy of it, the size of it and the payload it can handle.

I would gladly buy a New version of a 1988 Toyota Pickup if one was for sale. What is the point in buying a Tacoma when I can buy a full size Chevy half ton for less money that gets the same miles per gallon?

Give me a 2.0 liter Diesel small pickup to buy please!
