--Berman Haters and other small brained organisms - "Don't be intimidated by 3-5 minutes of reading without pictures--

1st question for all the 'Sam Sausagehead' Berman haters is, "If you have nothing but disdain and dismay for ESPN... why are you even participating in this poll?" No doubt there's Pairs Figure-Scating, Disney on Ice-dancing or something else on cable that's more suitable for you.

Chris Berman's body of work and contributions to the televised sports world rivals John Madden status, for originality, substance and authenticity. EVERY sportscaster on television that tries to coin a phrase or ad a pinch of comedic/fun-personality to otherwise drab game stats and numbers has borrowed a t least a page or two from Chris. He's a Godfather of ESPN's innovation in media.

For any legitimate, hardworking, accomplished or aspiring ATHLETE on the planet Earth (former athletes, appreciative/admiring/non-jealous Sports Fan included), trying to imagine or remember the world without and before ESPN media coverage is... like returning to the days of black-n-white before color TV, or going back to Radio before TV was invented.

It's well and okay to have TV News that isn't 95% political biased, boring or dominated by criminal activity, murder, lawsuits, courtroom updates, fraud, rape, viruses and disease. Hate a man (and network) for trying to add a sports related smile to your day... or simply change the channel - go read a
    dictionary or something.

In hindsight, it's INCONCEIVABLE that Sports Illustrated didn't think of creating an ALL SPORTS television network (or act on it) first. They should share the "all time Jackass Award" with ESPN haters.

All you Berman detractors probably are fans of Conan, go watch him...oh wait, you can't. If you don't like CB, turn him off and go away, a lot of us do...and according to the survey, there are more of us!
    Go Chris!

Berman tries to make himself the show. He is NOT original. His "he could go all the way" dates back to Howard Cosell. His "back, back, back" is from Red Barber. He is extremely irritating and full of himself.

I agree with Dustin. When he first was on the scene, his "back..back..back.." and "he..could..go..all..the..way" were refreshing. 25 or 30 years later, the fact that he still uses them so much (in his other commercials as well) make them (and him) incredibly stale. I love ESPN, but if Berman's on, I'll either switch the channel or mute the volume. The sports world doesn't need a Henny Youngman.

The reason he's so fat is that he's so full of himself. Do we really need to keep seeing ancient clips of him catching a pass at a Tampa Bay Bucs practice or making a putt at Pebble Beach? His act is played. Enough already.

Berman sucks! Every time I hear back back back at the HR derby a little piece of me dies inside.

Berman - the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

Berman's nicknames are lame. I wish he'd quit calling Larry Johnson, the football player, "Grandmama" which belongs to the former NBAer.

I'm not a fan of Berman and really not a fan of ESPN, either.

Chris Berman is the best on air personality ESPN has by a MILE. If Erin Andrews had the on air talen that Chris Berman had, she would be absolute perfection. Hopefully Berman DOES NOT GO ALL AWAY!!! Or should I say hopefully he's not back back back back back GONE!

  • Brad - 14 years ago

Chris Berman IS and ALWAYS will be ESPN !!

20 years ago, when I was in high school, I thought Berman was kinda funny, but I felt like his act was getting a little tired. Now? Unwatchable.
