I absolutely love the move. I'm a diehard Red Sox fan and any move that appears to weaken the Evil Empire is great by me. Keep it up Cashman!

WINN GARDNER AND GRANDERSON ARE ALL EXCELLENT OUTFIELDERS. GRANDY PROJECTS AT 40+ HOMERUNS THIS YEAR EASILY GIVEN HIS RECENT PERFORMANCE. WINN IS A LIFETIME .286 HITTER AND BETTER OUTFIELDER THAN MELKY. HE HAD ONE BAD YEAR BUT HE'S A YANKEE NOW. IMO, GRANDY EASILY REPLACES AND LIKELY FAR SURPASSES DAMONS NUMBERS AND WYNN IS BETTER THAN MELKY ALL AROUND. MATSUI VS JOHNSON IS PROBABLY A WASH AS JOHNSON WILL BE ON BASE 43 PERCENT OF THE TIME! NO PROBLEMS HERE! GREAT JOB CASHMAN.

The Yankees are defintely weaker without the services of Masui and Damon. I can't understand what they are thinking. They won the world series with them. Both demonstrated their value in the WS. They have not proved that they can't be valuable to this team in 2010. Johnson's record shows that he may not make it through the season without some injury. What has Winn proved so far?

Regardless of how one assesses Johnny Damon through statistics, as a total package (including fan recognition, teammate and intangibles) he was a very valuable Yankee, who will be missed sorely. While I understand that the baseball business is tough number crunching and budget discipline, I deplore that Cashman & Boras didn’t creatively and candidly explore every avenue to return Damon to his number 2 spot in the lineup. Johnny Damon’s on-field role, as well as his contribution to the Yankees bottom-line will undoubtedly have made good business sense.

It seems clear that Damon/Boras misjudged the situation. After having made the astronomical sum of $100M Damon should be willing to take less than what he and his agent thought possible. We have watched the daily attrition in available openings over the last week or two. Can it be that he doesn't see the light?? The temptation in these situations is to assume that there are things happening "behind the scene" that we don't know. In this instance, however, it's looking more and more like a case of stubbornness. Cashman is acting like he doesn't need Damon and that's not too smart. Right now, with the Winn acquisition, he's trading 28 homers for 2. Damon's weaknesses do not overshadow his capability as a "gamer." Wake up, guys.
