I like YELP but I am limited to add business information. Many addresses are incorrect which means I am too far to check in. Go to the website - have to wait 24 to 48 hours to comment. #ridiculous.
Thank....I really like Gowalla. Great design, great game constraints (to prevent cheating), great premise… kinda wish it would've won, but I guess the people like Foursquare.
I'm also going to have to go with Gowalla ~ great community and excellent gaming aspects combine to make Gowalla the go-to for both location based social networking and gaming.

I have used 5 check-in apps: FourSqaure, Gowalla, Yelp, CauseWorld, and MyTown. CauseWorld is the best because you earn "karmas" that you can exchange for real-world donations donated by sponsors. I use my karmas to give clean drinking water.
Gowalla is way better than FourSquare after using both for the past 2-3 weeks now. With FourSqaure I can 'cheat' and 'Check-In' to locations without even being there which is just ridiculous. Gowalla's interface is better, and I think their 'Drop An Item' feature is really cool. FourSqaure also sucks at finding things around me and often can't even find things when i search for them, even though they are in there.
Anyhow, looks like FourSqaure IS winning the marketing race since it was the first app that showed me this whole concept.

I've been using Foursquare and Gowalla in parallel for about 6-months and without a doubt Gowalla is the superior App. For as long as Fourquare has been around, you would think they would have a better UI experience by now. Foursquare and Yelp only got 1-2 in this poll because a lot of people have not heard of Gowalla because they do not come form the Bay Area. They are out of Austin, TX. I think SxSW Interactive will be a great coming out party for them in March.

This is ridiculous! Yelp has only offered the service for a WEEK. Yelp has a lot more to offer. No one wants to have to use Yelp for reviews AND another checkin service. Just wait a couple months.

I'm gonna have to go with Gowalla. It has a better UX and more potential for advertising and brand tie-in. Plus I just prefer it's game elements better than Foursquare. Yelp isn't going to be a player in this space without some interesting incentive to check in.

With Gowalla can add my own neat spots and not have to rely on pre-packaged business data. Gowalla's design is also fantastic and fun. It is location based and not address based so no entering addresses.
Yelp is very useful, but it is a utility and not really fun to check into a utility.

Yelp is one of the best review services out there. Seems to show up on local searches all the time.
