Who do you blame for the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. impasse?

I too thought it was ridiculous that Floyd insist that Pacquiao take the test so close to fight night when PacMan agreed to take a test immediately after the fight. However, after doing a little research, I found that there are tons of PED's that PacMan could take as close as 2-3 days before the fight and would not be detectable even immediately after the fight.

I'm not saying, AT ALL, that Pacquiao is guilty of being a dirty fighter but does Floyd have the right to be suspicous given the proliferation of PED's in sports? Hell Yeah! Any speculation concerning Floyd's motivation is really irrelavent. The reason he has given, protecting himself and the integrity of boxing, is a valid claim and should be respected.

Since this issue already got out of hand in my opinion the Nevada Athletic Commission should have taken the initiative to meddle between the opposing parties. This has been considered clearly as a loss to the Boxing in general and loss to Nevada itself. Instead of just declaring both fighters clean, the commission could have actively intervened as they are the real governing authority and not the Mayweathers, Team Pacquiao, GBP and Top Rank. And what the Mayweathers are trying to say that urine samples alone are not sufficient to detect all illegal drugs is tantamount to say that the commission is just pathetic and incompetent.

  • MikeP - 14 years ago

Manny has all the rights to refuse the blood testing based on his bad experience as his opponent wanted it to be. If Mayweather and GBP are really in good faith in acting as a boxing proponent they could have been proposed that procedure long ago to the Boxing Commission and to single out Manny is just too unfair.

  • abdulrauf - 14 years ago

The manner and style of mayweather avoiding the match with pacman and demanding self prescribed drug tests are really suffocating the boxing fans all over the world. I could not blame if most of the black american athletes will disown him because of plain COWARDICE. Mayweather should leave the boxing world now. He is a "HUGE" disgrace to boxing fans and mostly to black american athletes.

sweet science: you opinion is your opinion and this is mine. Who's the CHAMP? and who's the challenger? maybe you've never grown on boxing but from your point of view::
"mayweather IS the most gifted fighter of this past decade, why would he subject himself to fighting a mediocre fighter on substances"
    my point of view::
"Manny IS a 7 time world CHAMP, why would he subject himself to fighting 5 time world CHAMP on trash talking"

Floyd came out f retirement BECAUSE of Manny "pound for pound" issue... rest is history. Goggle it, Wiki it facts are facts.

  • sweet science - 14 years ago

all you out there saying mayweather is a coward for not fighting pacquaio under strict steroids testing are hypocrites.... if you were to be fighting pacquaio, you would want the same tests done... mayweather IS the most gifted fighter of this past decade, why would he subject himself to fighting a mediocre fighter on substances. Grow up and realize you are being biased. If this fight does take place you better believe I will be there booing pacquaio, and chanting USA USA USA everytime mayweather scores a hit. I support my countryman.

  • SoulTrain - 14 years ago

I hear ya, BlackAmerican! Since when did we appoint Gayweather the head chairman of the NSAC? "B Real" is short for "B Real Stupid".

  • BlackAmerican - 14 years ago

    AM I RIGHT?

  • BlackAmerican - 14 years ago

    FIRST OF ALL, I'M BLACK.
JUST TO CLARIFY! PACMAN IS WILLING TO HAVE THE TEST! BEFORE AND AFTER THE FIGHT. SO STOP COMMENTING THAT HE IS HIDDING SOMETHING AND THAT HE DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE THE BLOOD TEST. MAYWEATHER IS RUINING THE SPORT... SELFISH! GAYWEATHER IS A DISGRACE TO US!

  • BarrYS - 14 years ago

Just writing into say I saw Floyd's new nickname - KFC - Kentucky Floyd Chicken!
Floyd is just seeing which buttons he can push in the mind games and get MP so steamed MP pulls out of the fight. Floyd knows his "O" is in danger if this fight goes ahead.

  • B Real - 14 years ago

The only person who is scared of a drug test is someone who has something to hide. If your clean then why would you care when or how your tested. I had respect for Manny but not after this. I don't even have respect for boxing anymore. When is the next UFC pay per view?

I am ashamed that floyd is an african american, we are supposed to be the epitome of courage and athletic prowess....and yet here is floyd showing to the whole world how coward he is. He should bleach himself so that his color would be anything but like any human race

  • chickenbittchfloyd - 14 years ago

If floyd is not the loudmouth gay fraudsucker that have not insulted pacman, maybe the pacman would have relented to the drug fishing aspect. Pacman could have even allowed gayweather floyd to lick his ass to determine if his shit taste like roids, or maybe allowed gayfloyd to drink his urine if it taste like roids

  • mobst2000 - 14 years ago

FLOYD MAYTALKER IS A BIG TALKER NOT A FIGHTER. Why don't you fight rather that talk. That's what boxers do. Floyd's not a boxer. He should change his career from a boxer to a rapper instead. Floyd's boring to watch in the ring. Kep't running instead of fighting. STEP OUT FROM THE BOXING WORLD FLOYD and go home to your mama.

  • juncas - 14 years ago

mayweather is supposed to be the bigger guy, who has all the advantages (reach, height, body) but he demanded so many things. pacquaio already agreed to the blood testing before and after the fight but not random. because random means anytime they can suck blood that includes an hour before the figh. mayweather is just afraid. period.

  • Dave - 14 years ago

Manny is never afraid to submit a blood test. He has agreed to submit the blood test 24 days before the fight. Mayweather requested a blood test up to the day of the fight which I think is a lame tactic to weaken Manny's power. Considering Manny will be on a strict diet to meet the weight requirement. Like Mr Arum said, Mayweather is scared so he found a reason to block the fight. I'll never watch Mayweather's fight again ever. This is bad for boxing. I'm sick of Gayweather and his lame excuses. This is not the first time he ducked to fight a formidable opponent.

  • Alice - 14 years ago

i used to idolized Floyd for being a good boxer. He proved he can beat any boxer thrown at him until manny pacquiao rose to fame. i thought he came back from retirement to prove he can beat this man. my thoughts are all wrong. he doesnt care about the sport, he only cares about himself and his zero-lost record. that record does not make him the best now that he is dodging pacquiao.

  • Den - 14 years ago

This whole drug testing demand from Mayweather comes from fear, either of losing to Pacquiao, fear of being cheated, fear of whatever on Mayweather side but does Pacquiao needs to prove anything? Is there any reason to doubt his achievements? Mayweather always avoided fighters who can potentially beat him. Who does Mayweather think he is to make demands and push Pacquiao or anyone to meet it? And to Oscar who's still bitter the way Pacquio sent him to retirement, let it go man!! Pacquiao have always been respectful of his opponents, while if you remember, Mayweather called you gay and names before you fought him.

  • onito d' noti - 14 years ago

your right bkoy.... Gayweather is truly a gay....hahahaha.... no balls stupid!!!

  • bkoy - 14 years ago

The purpose is to weaken Pacman and not to detect HGH or EPO. Gayweather is a cheater and a coward!

  • ritz - 14 years ago

these random drug test is a mind game of mayweather. A drug test is not a big deal but if you're a foreigner who have a clean record and very successful and all of a sudden you're being singled out for extensive tests that has'nt been required for anybody you'll be feeling insulted and upset too!! It's like being stopped and searched by the police because you're black, you dressed like a hiphop artist and they're suspicious of your face!! It's all about self respect for Pac, If all these tests apply to all boxers I'm sure you will never hear any objection from him!

  • Roly - 14 years ago

Mayweather always resort to dirty tactics in order to have a clear advantage on his opponent. he's just a coward who wants to win using stupid tactics. hey, gayweather, go and fight manny on even terms, show the world that ur not a coward !!!

  • Oliver - 14 years ago

Sugar Shane Mosley Admitted he was using something. b4 the fight no one demanded an olympic style drug test. And he is a known user, why is Pacquiao who is clean on all his fights, being submitted to an Olympic Style Drug test? just doesnt make any sense at all.

Flyod already said he can beat him, he even said its an Easy Fight, why go to all this trouble? if he think this is a no match and an easy fight for him?

  • Reiska - 14 years ago

100% Mayweather or his camp. The false accusations is as dirty as Bush's smear tactics. This behavior does not belong in professional sport. I'm extremely disappointed by the action mayweather have taken.

the last thing boxing needs is this nonsense.

  • Meldon - 14 years ago

Not to be mean, but who's family has been involved in drugs between the 2 fighters? i know every body in boxing knows this already, but whose fighter between Manny and Floyd has the has the worst attitude? who's the LIAR and who's afraid?

The antics of the mayweathers are definitely way below sub-human attitude, they can LIE to their TEETH and BELIEVE their own lies.

On the other hand, i am not surprised why the mayweathers are BIG LIARS, HYPOCRITES, PRETENDERS and CONFLICTING. . . THAT'S WHAT ANY ONE WILL BECOME FOR WORSHIPING THE MONEY ANYWAY. . . TO SUM IT ALL UP. . . IT'S CALLED GREED, EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST A CONSEQUENCE!

  • Emill - 14 years ago

Floyd know he could never match Manny on the ring. Floyd is just making ploy finding excuses; finding advantage to gain more over Manny. Common floyd no more excuses.. fight manny on the ring like you fight other fighters like Zab Juddah; De la Hoya; Hatton without any special demands. Or better Hang your gloves and retire for ever on boxing ! STFU ! Floyd Mayweather !!

  • Eugene Choe - 14 years ago

People seem to forget that it is innocent until proven guilty not the other way around. People also need to remember that there is no proof at all that Pacquiao is anything but natural, and that Pacquiao and Mayweathers weight gain throughout their respective careers is almost identical and the suspicion is absolute bullshit. Fighters should have no say in the terms of the drug testing in the first place that's what the NSAC is for.

  • Tim O'Brien - 14 years ago

Gayweather is soooo scared of the PACMAN! Literally, no Yag Balls for the Gayweathers!

  • Floyd "Money" Pacquiao - 14 years ago

get it done already! The fighters have to train now.

  • jax - 14 years ago

its a very good alibi to have a perfect no lose records.? for the rest of your mouth&life huh! baby Floyd >>>>

  • Brad P - 14 years ago

Some critics are arguing that Pacman must be on roids since he's not agreeing to team mayweather's terms of agreement, which includes an Olympic style doping test.

So let me get this straight...If we fail to address all the conjectures made about us, then those very accusations conjured up against us must be true?

Wow, I haven't formed a conclusion derived from this form of logic since grade school.

  • Todd C - 14 years ago

I find it odd that a handful of pundits act as if the Olympic style drug testing is the be-all and end-all of all drug testing procedure when in fact the Olympic testing method has been anything but a perfect dope testing protocol.

Pacman could accomodate all of Mayweather's demands and accusations, but why should he? I don't know of any other sport that would consider adjusting their rules or policies midseason just because a player or a team has a gripe, so why should the sport of boxing be any different?

Mayweather should stick to his day job (boxing, training) and allow the Nevada gaming commission to do theirs.

  • Klean - 14 years ago

    Quoted from: http://dopingjournal.org/content/3/1/dopingj022006-01.html

Therefore "2006 Prohibited List" [7] section S2 on "Hormones and Related Substances" of The World Anti-Doping Code (stating with regard to Epo that "unless the athlete can demonstrate that the [Epo] concentration was due to a physiological or pathological condition" [an urine sample] deemed to contain a prohibited substance Epo") provides the grounds for blood doping corruption by IOC and WADA, abuses athletes, and obstructs Olympic play true principal. The postpublication appeal by Lasne et al. [8] and Catlin et al. [9], poor WADA method inventors, that "false-positive Epo test concerns unfounded" is not convincing (*). Would anyone expect those scientists could blame the method they fabricated? (*) Likewise, Nature journal, first place of the method publication [3], failed to be an unbiased authority in biomedical publication [10,11].

The study published in an advanced online publication of the Blood [1], suggest that WADA data on blood doping are invalid, and that innocent athletes could lost their Olympic medals because of IOC and WADA misconduct. Latest possible IOC false detection of Epo took place at Salt Lake City during Winter Olympic Games 2002, when two Russian cross-country skiers (Larissa Lazutina and Olga Danilova) [12, 13, 14] and one Spanish athlete (Johann Muehlegg) [15] were stripped off their medals after testing positive for Epo analog Darbepoietin. The present Blood study published during the XX Olympic Games 2006 in Turin, Italy, indicates Olympic champions could wrongly suffer IOC sanctions.

The argumented response by the authors [16] on communication arising matter by WADA supported urine Epo test fabricators, and a publication in Clin Chim Acta by Franke and Heid [17](*) add evidence that Epo testing by IOC, WADA and their universally accredited labs is faked, and illustrates how science misuse by amibitious professors, ones' private interest [18], and the corruption by International Olympic Committee (IOC), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), sport officials and sports associations/federations can deteriorate public confidence in Olympic games, other sports competition/events and poison the principal of "ethics, fair play and honestly" ironically introduced by IOC in its' World Anti-Doping Code by WADA [19].

  • Hanson - 14 years ago

The results here . . mirror other polls conducted by various boxing online sites . . Pacquiao is very well supported by majority of the casual and hardcore boxing fans. That is a fact! So not matter the articles - - that say in "high heavens" that Pacquiao's name has been significantly affected . . the opposite has happened.

It has resulted to a galvanized and strong support for Manny . . I don't think this is what GBP or the Mayweather Camp had in mind. The more they push the allegations and negative insinuations, the stronger the opposite force. Such an irony of justice!

  • Cheng - 14 years ago

Why only now w/ Pacman's fight he requested such screening, considering that Manny never failed w/ the Nevada anti dope test? And why does he want it w/ the USADA, did he not trust the Nevada Boxing anti dope committee/WBO regulating committee?

  • Ray - 14 years ago

Mayweather makes me sick. Stop acting like a coward and get it on.

  • FC - 14 years ago

First of all, the mayweathers does not want a 50-50 split. So they went out and spread this "rumor" that manny is dirty hoping that manny and arum would reconstruct the contract to the mayweathers favor. Or they just building up the hype for this fight! Either way, this fight is gonna happen and after all of these has been said and done, Floyd's "pretty" face will not be pretty no more...

  • Art C - 14 years ago

Mayweather is too demanding... He wants to impose his own rule into the boxing world... Why not stick into Nevada Rules? He's into psy war wherein he wants his opponents to fall into it... Poor Mayweather!!! Come on!... Face Manny Pacquiao inside the ring...

  • jv - 14 years ago

I don't see the problem with Mayweather's request and although I understand Manny's posture as well, blood testing should be added to the sport since urinalysis is not enough to ensure a level playing field as evidenced by Shane Mosley who never tested positive in a urinalysis but was rather discovered later in the BALCO list (which shoots down Manny's argument that he has never failed a urine test which neither did Shane)

  • JP - 14 years ago

What you think is your own opinion, and it's your given rights --since we live in a free world-- and NO ONE should/would ever take that away from you. But, please reconsider and let me pose these questions to you:

    1) What is the reasoning behind Manny's refusal to have his blood drawn 48 hrs before the fight? What are the backgrounds?
    2) Did Manny have a bad experience in the past? What was the effect on him before and until now? How important is the psyche of the fighter come fight night?
    3) Are we an expert in this subject matter? Do we really have a scientific proof that those anabolic are better detected when blood drawn so close to the fight, and what is the difference taking the samples right after the fight? Do we have knowledge of another fight in the past that the same procedure was taken and came up with a result that we are now convince to do the same on this upcoming fight?
    4) Why is Floyd's camp asking for this unprecedented procedure? Do they have something to fear from Manny? Do they have any solid evidence, or just to satisfy their own curiosity? I could probably understand the last one, it is an amazing feat after all.
    5) Perhaps Floyd is afraid that he might end up in the same predicament with the last 4 fighters that Manny fought? So, he's trying to get all the edge he can get away with?
    6) In case Manny gives in on the random blood testing, how many times would USADA take samples from Manny? Is there a chance that they will draw samples everyday for the next 60+ days until the fight or maybe even twice or more a day (since they are claiming that it can be flush out of the human system within hours)? What are the risks? Is there a possibility of infections due to improper procedures? Is there a possibility of blood contamination during transport? Is there ample time to do the blood test and produce an accurate test?
    7) Does USADA have a set of guidelines already in place for professional boxing that has been tested before and proven effective?

I could probably go on and on with all of these questions, and there's probably a lot of questions that need to be answered. But, my whole point is --let’s not be too quick to pass on our judgments. Let's be smart and take the time to understand and learn what the whole thing is all about. In short –don’t make a fool of your selves.

  • el mejico - 14 years ago

as i said a couple of months ago, pbf’s balls were hidden deep into his mouth. he’s a coward. especially after pacquiao’s fight with cotto, team mayrunner thinks of any strategy they could think of to their advantage because there’s no way they could beat pacman when it comes to true boxing, fist to fist, toe to toe. pbf knows what he’s doing. in order to retain his undefeated record, he tries to find a way to avoid the fight. but it comes to a point where he has no choice but to choose a loss for the sake of money.

  • carlo - 14 years ago

steve, the big deal is that a person who has never failed a "TEST" is being accused..more like harrassed that he did PEDs.

  • craig - 14 years ago

Pacquaio is not afraid of needles. Those were Arums words , not Manny.

The timing and the amount of blood taken is what concerns Pacquaio most due ti his traumatic experience with the Morales fight. Only a dumb person will agree to the same procedure , no matter what people say.

The reaction of Pacquiao to the allegations is culturally Asian. If he was American , he would probably do it the way most Americans expect an American to do and that is .... then lets have the blood tests , you skunk.

But Asians don't usually react that way.

Floyd "The Coward " Mayweather just want to do a Morales. Who's the real cheat now ???

  • MarkNVegas - 14 years ago

There are some things that a urine test can't detect. That's why they use blood and urine in the olympics. To be most effective in keeping a contest fair, it needs to be random and unannounced, because if you know exactly when a drug test is coming there are things you can do to beat the test. Floyd Mayweather willingness to submit to Olympic style testing leads me to believe that he trains and fights without the use of performance enhancing substances. Manny's reluctance to submit to Olympic style testing leads me to wonder if he his hiding something. If you're willing to walk away from 40 million dollars just so you can avoid Olympic Style Drug Testing, that's fine, but don't expect me not to draw some sort of conclusion from it.

  • Noriel Santos - 14 years ago

What's the logical reason for the Mayweather asked for random blood test? Do they have any reasonable cause? If so, why didn't they ask Marquez to take random blood test? Was it because Mayweather had an advantage over Marquez. I don't understand. Please explain.

  • first timer - 14 years ago

Let's just say Mayweather and his camp are just a bunch of cowards looking for excuses. Just shut up and fight.

  • Mark - 14 years ago

Makes NO difference this fight will happen.35-50 million trumps anything either one of these camps can come up with its set in stone!! LET'S GET IT ON!!!!

  • Michael - 14 years ago

The big deal with this is that no one has the right to accuse someone of cheating or doing anything illegal without concrete proof. If I went to you and told you your mom made her money from prostitution, how would you feel? Would you be compelled to prove everyone wrong or be offended and demand an apology, or perhaps sue?

It's a touchy subject. Besides, the Mayweather camp has been offered a "Fail to Pass" clause in where if any of the fighters failed a drug test using the Olympic Style testing, one would have to pay a fine of $10M. Guess who turned down that offer from Arum? That's right... the Mayweathers. Fishy right?

  • Steve - 14 years ago

I really dont see what the big deal is. If your doing nothing ilegal, whats it hurting. We take drug test before we work any job, and I have no problem with it. In Oregon, construction workers get 50 bucks for passing a drug test. If your clean its not a problem is it?

  • R. Caballero - 14 years ago

Pacman should not have to bend over for any fighter that's demanding him to potentially have random blood tests that could even be taken from 2 days, 1 day, or even one on fight night. He's more than willing to take unlimited urine tests leading up to the fight, 3 blood tests that also includes one test immediately AFTER the fight.

A couple of reasons, which also dates back to 2005 (post Pacman vs.
    Morales I):

    http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/284843

    http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-10947-Indianapolis-Fight-Sports-Examiner~y2009m12d31-The-real-reason-why-Pacquiao-does-not-want-his-blood-drawn

    http://philboxing.com/news/story-32139.html

    http://topgelato.com/pacquiao-vs-mayweather-update-the-truth-behind-pacquiaos-refusal-on-blood-test/12708

I’m sure the Mayweather camp did their homework
on this one, and are looking into a way to gain
an advantage over Manny come fight night, and
I’m sure they looking into recreating a similar
tactic that was done to Pacman’s last lost in 2005

  • antonio j - 14 years ago

pacquiao never failed any drug test give to him in his carrer. mayweather want all psychological and wieght advantage to his favor. look what he did to marguez. so pacquiao may not speak good english but he is not dumb.
