Did Taunton school officials overreact when they sent a boy home for drawing a stick-figure picture of Jesus on the cross, calling it too violent?

Coming out of the gate the father raised the racial card, and the media jumped at his story. It was not until the city responded that the father's version of the incidents seemed to crumble. Yes, there was a drawing and possibly an overactive teacher, but let's look at this in a different light. Teachers are forced to address the needs of the students they see every day. Perhaps if the family were willing to have a discussion with the school principal, superintendent, and perhaps the mayor first versus using the media as an outlet then this matter would not be open for international comment.

This is ridiculous over reaction. The boy is 8 years old.Kids draw silly, and nice things. This reminds me of the Brockton incident a few years back when a 6 yr. old was suspended for giving an innocent kiss. Forty years back,we could draw just about anything...99% turned out fine.

When my oldest child was in first grade, the Teacher sent a note home, that maybe he was depressed, as his picture was drawn in Black/Brown/Purple, very dark looking.
So I asked him why he used those colors, and he replied, that the girl who sat next to him, had EATEN all his other crayons!!
She also had eaten his jar of paste!
I went and bought him new crayons and paste, and his artwork was much more realistic looking!
