im sick and tired of the dodger "THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD" mentallity!!! trading pierre for a bucket of balls and signing a 36yr old 2nd baseman is very insulting to a me' frank if i ever met you in a dark alley" we have alot of things 2 talk about my friend"

good for juan, bad for dodgers. who will be there when manny pulls his boston style shut down.

I think we are still forgetting a big point here....we need a starting pitcher more than anything yet they cant afford one because theres no money...as the owners are just looking out for themselves and not the dodgers, they want to make sure they are still getting there millions regardless of what happens to the dodgers so im not surprised that they traded Juan and they got nothing for it....wolf is gone..but the biggest dissapointment is that they are doing it with i think one of the best coaches in baseball and his last year left on contract...he's going to have nothing left to play with for the season...i wouldnt be surprised if they dont make it to the playoffs..even if they do it will be the same as the last two years with the phillis!

Baseball was a grand game when families owned the teams. Say what you want about the lack of free agency and the stranglehold they had on players. I grew up during that era and you had a much closer feeling for the players and the team.

Now, it's almost all big corporations and players moving around all the time. The lack of continuity has hurt the game. IMHO.

From the O'Malleys to Fox to McCourt. Wow, now that's a serious drop in ownership quality.

This used to be the Dodgers.

Lucky Juan he gets to go to a decent team and play full time. I have lived in LA most of my life and have hated the Dodgers as long. Last year I watched every game because of players like Juan. Now with Juan gone and Fanny Manny still there, I doubt I'll ever watch these clowns play, let alone spend money to see them.

As a life-long fan, I gotta tell you that it is lack of drive, courage, effort and focus that has kept this team out of the Series for 21 years. Andruw Jones, Todd Hudley, Todd Benzinger, Milton Bradley, J. D. Drew... the list of has-beens, busts an outright quitters has led me to believe that no one believes anymore in the hisory and tradition of this franchise. Now McCourt wants to mess around with it while he shafts his wife in a divrce and the team falls apart al around him. The only lasting GOOD move they made was bringing in Pierre to begin with, ad now hey have flat given him away. Somewhere, Walter O'Malley is weeping.

I think the current plan is to dismantle the Dodgers in the hope that their value will go down so Frank has to pay Jamie less for her half. Or maybe they are really that clueless.

I think the dodgers could have made a better deal for Juan. If not, then they should have kept him, Ownership swtinks.

  • Unbelievably horrible trade - 14 years ago

I still can't believe what I read. You compound the mistake of keeping Manny around by trading a legitimate, and better, replacement? Trade Manny, not Juan! He's a team player and, judging by recent events, a better one. The way to reward his loyalty would have been to send Manny away and hand Juan the left field spot.

If you are not going to use him, with the talent he has, then trade him.

BAD MOVE! Juan Pierre is the ultimate player, baseball-wise and charactor-wise. His play last year while Manny was out proved it. Some of his at-bats showed me how good of a player he is but nobody ever talks it. The Dodgers were a much more balanced offensive team when Juan was in the line-up. For what they received back, the Dodgers should have traded Manny instead.

I don't think anyone should be surprised as to what is going on with the Dodgers. We the fans have the passion for the team but the thought of the team being one of the elite teams went down the drain when Bud Selig the commissioner allowed the McCourts to buy the team without good assets. It was said that Selig did not want the Dodgers to be one of the elite. So, the p/r department every season like most mediocre teams, say they have no constraints on payrol and say they are in the market for top players but in reality, they do nothing....and they are not building their minor league teams for future either because they do not wish to pay out large sums of moneys for them either. Here is an exmple of the Dodger mentality, they did not offer arbitration to Wolf where the Dodgers did not even want him for one year. So, instead of maybe receiving two prime draft choices they chose not to offer him arbitration because then they would have to pay bonuses to the new draft choices.
Get used to management not spending money and go to games because you like going to games and seeing the other teams. Don't go with the hopes of being champions....When the McCourts came into town they got rid of key people who had important positions with the team. They put their inexperienced kids in major positions without them learning and working their ways up....This ownership is all about taking money from the top and investing it in owning 8 homes in So Cal. and putting the money everywhere except for the team. If the Dodgers can stay close to the top til July every year, the ownership will have enough attendance should they fall out of contention later...so until at least July fans come out and if that does not change there will be no attempts to sell or improve on the team. So, I say to the fans like me, don't be naive with hope, be realistic and if we still go to the games nothing will change under this ownership.
So, don't have expectations go for enjoyment of being outside in the Ca weather...It could be worse, we could be in Kansas City.

Not only should Pierre have remained in L.A., but he should have started. Manny is no longer Manny, and he'll be year older and slower. Pierre gets on base and can play defense.

So the Dodgers see their power game decline as Ramirez's post-roids output has and will be negligible, and now they give away a key component in the "little ball" category.

If anybody has any fantasies about this ownership retaining the likes of Ethier, Kemp, Loney, Martin, and Broxton — this should tell you where this drama is headed.

And it's going to be no better in Anaheim. The Angels have lost plenty and that may not be over yet.

To think, both of our teams finally got so close to that elusive "freeway series," and now both will likely be extremely fortunate to get in as a wild card.

I think the angels and Dodgers are only a few moves away from changing all that.

Unfortunately, those few moves will probably send them to the lower echelon, rather than back on top.

2010 and beyond could be bleak for baseball fans in L.A.

    Dear Dodger front offiice,
I am very disappointed with the latest move. I have a dodger since birth and know nothing else but Dodger blue. I spend my hard earned money year after year going to games, in the hopes of finally winning a world series. I am just very frustrated with everything, the mcourts need to deal with their divorce without affecting our teams progress. Sell the team & get out of LA!

  • maggie411 - 14 years ago

Juan Pierre totally deserves to stay! He was such a stud last year. And WHY are we looking for a 2nd baseman - we should never have gotten rid of O-Dog!! He got a golden glove for Pete's sake!! :O What is going on w/ the Dodgers? We're gonna suck next year! :(

  • unkown - 14 years ago

BAD MOVE DODGERS....its not that they finally traded Juan Peirre its what they got in return. You got to be kidding me, we gave probably what I would call the Dodgers first half MVP away for two minor leagers that we may never hear from. You are telling me thats the best deal good ole Ned could come up with. The "Mccourts dont have the money" cliche has all but been exhausted by now. It is no longer a matter of weather they have to money to spend but more so...they just dont get IT. Yes, I know that they migrated from brooklyn but was many a years ago. They have been supported not by brooklyn but by three million or so fans per year damn near every year that I can remember by LA. Is this the best deal that our loyalty brings to a city that our owner is not from. Our we to sit back and believe that our Boston transplant truly gets it. Its a shame to think that the Los angeles Dodgers have become the team satisfied to just makes it rather then the takes it all. A shell of the image once protrade by a proud franchise. Why would a Boston parking lot attendant care about a city he is not from, a team he was not a fan of, or fans that he has nothing in commong with. The dodgers have gone from the likes of the Gibsons, Scocias, Newcombs and Tommys of the world to Minor leagers and what ever pieces we can get at a discount. We have gone through the bargain bin long enough to know that you cant build a Mercedez Bens out of left over car parts. So, as we move foward and continue to feed ourselves with a diet of maybe's we truly lack the nutrients of a sure thing. To find that source of satisfaction unofortunatly we will have to look elswhere and be satisfied with just making it and maybe one taking it.

Yep Dodger fans expect a repeat of the 2005 dismantling of the team. Coletti has no dinero to work with. You will need a crowbar to open Frankie's wallet for any moves. Darn shame that we built a team to win the west and go far in the playoffs for two straight years. Get ready for a 3rd place finish!

  • gene - 14 years ago

We can now put to rest any doubts that the Dodgers are in fire sale mode. Why give away one of their best players for nothing in return (and pay money for the privilege?). This is the kind of underfunded management we've been expecting from McCourt from Day 1.
