Should the state Board of Regents consider eliminating or deferring research awards to the UI?

    It is important to recognize that a portion of any educational institution's incoming money depends on its ranking and the measure of its success in terms of productivity, both of which relate directly to one another.

    Any institution's status and funding relate to the quality of research conducted at that university, the number and quality of publications produced because of said research, and the valuing and utilization of that university's research by the outside world and/or other institutions.

    This doesn't just affect money coming in for professors, but money coming in at many different levels.
