Is Obama right to send more troops to Afghanistan?

I disagree with the President's decision to send more troops only because he is sending them there to surrender. Anyone who leaves the battlefield before the battle ends, surrenders. We already have enough troops there for that.

Rather, he should bring them home to begin building defensive positions for the battle that will resume here once we surrender in Afghanistan. Surely, only a fool believes that the terrorists will leave us alone once we return home.

Unfortunately, as Patton correctly observed, defensive positions are monuments to man's stupidity.

President Obama is NOT right to send 30,000 additional US troops to Afghanistan. I, like millions of Americans, voted for "CHANGE"; for tackling our deep economic problems, for health care reform and for bringing our troops home. I voted for the values and the promises embedded in Obama's eloquent campaign speeches. However, in the past eleven months, I started to think that I was tricked by a political demagogue, today I am convinced that I voted for a liar and perhaps a puppet of the old establishment. I am embarrassed to accept this reality and I am sure that the Norwegians who gave him the Nobel Peace Prize are even more so.

With 37 million homeless and 1 out of 8 adults and 1 in 4 children eating from food stamps. With our senior citizens kicked out of medicals and increase in shares of medicare. Denying our disables and seniors a raise that average $20 per nonth a small amount that can help in increasing rent sales tax and utilities. I consider sending more people and money to fight leaving us in this way is a national crime against the poor of this country.

It is good to see a poll that is closer to how most of my friends think and we are all very conservative. Because Pres Obama is a liberal he gets about 30% of the liberals to support him to matter what. If these were honest liberals then this poll would be NO at 73%. This poll shows that most conservatives and liberals are against the this crazy war. If the airhead conservatives which believe anything that is said as long as it is supported by a Republican would just think for themselves, then the NO would be at 90%.

Can anyone tell me why we are fighting this war. The best article I saw on this said that it was all about greed. About 90% of the money going for reconstruction, Afghan military support, Pakistan military support goes right into the pockets of the politicians and contractors. That sure makes sense when no one can come up with any reason why we are there.

By the way, are you aware that the Taliban was the established government of Afghanistan that we ousted. Now that they are out, the drug trade has increased 10 fold. This is one reason that local government wants the Taliban. They are against the US intrusion in their politics.

Paul Thornton -- you are indeed a thoroughly ignorant loser. Shame on you, LA Times.
