One hunter shoots and hits a deer. It runs about a half mile and another hunter's shot puts it down. Whose deer is it?

Opening day 6:20 a.m. I'm in my stand on my property very well posted someone shoots its not that far from me and definitely on my land. And hour and a half later a Hunter comes walking through I ask him what he's doing on my land he said he gut shot a buck. I told him that it had not come this way and to go back the way he had come to look for it. I made sure he knew that he was on my posted land I did not want him to disturb other hunters with me. One hour later a buck appeared and I put it down. The trespasser heard my shot and came to investigate. I examined it and saw that it had been gut shot. The trespasser said nice buck I'm glad you killed it. The trespasser said its your property so its your deer. I told him to take the deer and get off my property and please stay off. I gave him the deer because at no time was he disrespectful to me and he was willing to give the deer up. I had every right to take that deer for myself. I believe I did the right thing.

One gentleman in our hunting party had this happen to him this year while hunting on state land in the Town of Cuyler, Cortland County. He shot a doe from his climber, the doe ran a short ways and dropped. He waited to let the deer die. An unknown hunter comes along who said he had just got thrown off posted property and didn't know exactly where he was. Our man tells him he had just shot a doe but didn't know if it was dead yet. The unknown hunter says he'll finish it for him and asks where it's at. Our man points the deer out to him, the unknown hunter finishes the deer, grabs it by a leg and starts hauling it away. Didn't even bother to gut it. As our man said, no need to argue with a man with a loaded gun. The deer would have eventually died as the initial shot did a lot of damage. A point of irony is the unknown hunter was heading in a direction that would take him through some thick underbrush, up and down some good hills, and at least a mile and a half of dragging when he could have gone in another direction which would have been all down hill, through a more open area, and been only about half the distance. Payback was sweet.
