The only reason i voted for VC is the music; It is te best ever.

  • TeflonMonkey - 14 years ago

On the topic of voting, I'd just like to say (as a Dig Your Own Grave regular) that many of us do indeed love the creator of Vector Conflict, but he had that little request up at times in the previous rounds and didn't get a huge lead in those rounds, so it would be unfair to suggest it was all down to that.
On the other hand, I can see exactly why some people would be annoyed, and certainly agree it's good that the biggest prize is to be awarded by judges.
With the apparently low number of VC plays, it is the only play online game, so that could have some bearing (I believe, although I could be mistaken, that simply going to the download screen and not actually downloading the other games counted towards those numbers).
All that aside, I personally haven't played the other games; but I certainly will get around to it, and with the publicity for all of the games and 2beegames itself, everyone's surely a winner.

Also, congratulations to VC for the win.

  • 4everdance - 14 years ago

TURBA!!!!!!!! What a great game! Have to tell ya, my 85 yr. old g-ma was dancing with the beat as she played it then my teens at their party were up till dawn playing this game! Such a great achievement to have such a wide audience. This is a WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Juke - 14 years ago

Even if the votes for vector conflict were just because the creator got the followers from his site to vote for him, wouldn't that be just as hard as making a good game? You'd have to get a ton of people to genuinely like you cause they're not gonna vote just cause you tell em to. Meaning it's fair to do because the difficulty of gathering that many devoted followers is an achievement in its own right.

  • Aaron - 14 years ago

Thanks Glider just trying to bring some perspective to this poll. I noticed that some people were calling some of the games "boring" I really don't think this is the case at all so I put in my 2cents. :)

  • Glider - 14 years ago

Kudos on that comment Aaron, it's just about the best one I've seen here.

Different people like different types of games: all the finalists are very much different and really good in their sub-genre, it's just a matter of personal taste will you like puzzle, shooter or adventure more.

  • Aaron - 14 years ago

    My thoughts on each game.

VC - A little too hard for me :( I got kinda frustrated but I see where the appeal of this game is. Easy to get addicted to upgrade style games.

DriftMoon - With a good loot system this would be the winner. My favorite aspect about these kinds of games is the loot. It was a little disappointing to see generic items but a lot of work was put into this game.

Turba - At first I had no idea what was going on but as I played I realized that there is tons of depth to this game. Every move you make can make an impact on if you win or lose (higher difficulties). Everyone should go try out the new version.

Kablooey - Just like Turba slow to start, I like the idea but I feel there needs to me more graphical queues to tell you if your on the right track. I felt very overwhelmed as it dropped me into the game with so many possibilities. I'm not much of an adventure game player so it only made it worse :/

All games deserve to be here, I think everyone should give each game a fair shot before making judgement.

That being said, I'd have to say that I enjoyed Turba the most in the end. Based on the fact that I love puzzle games and that this game easily has more replay value than any of the other contestants. Can't wait to play the final version.

  • hype - 14 years ago

Ok cool. Thanks for clearing some of that up for me!

  • Glider - 14 years ago

Hype, inform yourself of contest rules: there are two categories and in first winner is decided by votes (5000$), and in second one judges pick the game that will be ported to console and award 10000$ to developer in question.

The point of voting is to promote the site and get new users which all of the developers did successfully, even despite the fact people weren't obliged to register to vote. I'm sure site statistics would show I'm absolutely right.

Furthermore: yes, it was all about getting people to vote, and I repeat again- everyone used the means they could. It even said on the site when the first round started that everyone is free to post the link to websites, blogs, tweeters, forums etc.

I also wouldn't judge by the number of plays as just clicking on the game link records it like it's been played even if you don't download it.
If you really wanna go there, check out the number of times each game was favorited: Driftmoon is first and Vector Conflict second (last time I checked).

  • hype - 14 years ago

I mean, the ad for Vector Conflict straight up says "The winner is chosen by votes, so if you love me then click this post and vote for Vector Conflict..."

He shouldn't get $10,000 for people loving him?

  • hype - 14 years ago

So basically the winner of this poll is just the developer with the most contacts.
Judges, PLEASE decide this winner instead of leaving it up to votes! Looks like Turba is the only game that didn't go mass-advertise to people who won't even try playing the games, but just vote on them!

Notice how Vector conflict has much less plays than Kablooey and Driftmoon? People aren't voting for it because they think it's the best game, they're voting for it because their buddy told them to!

  • meeea - 14 years ago

I'd say that Driftmoon is absolutely the best 'cause it has a really good idea. It's totally different if compared to the other games! I prefer to think the next step, not to shoot things by clickin' the mouse :DD

  • Glider - 14 years ago

Well, even with registered people you can't possibly know (or make someone) to play all the games in order to decide which ones are the best.

People who registered in the last few weeks probably did it to support the game or developer they already liked (hence the "prior fanbase"), but all the games (some more some less) brought a good amount of users and traffic for the site.

But yes, I agree that in the future voting should be restricted to registered users in addition to the IP restrictions.

Again, everyone advertised with the available means here and and not having to register made things easier (i.e. votes more abundant).

Also, I think Kablooey is good but I didn't enjoy that much playing it- matter of personal taste, and it would be nice if everyone respected that particular bit of human nature.

    You can't please everyone . :)

  • blueflare - 14 years ago

i said "you CAN get the game for free", not "you will"

but who cares it doesn't really matter

  • Anne - 14 years ago

Yes, I also think that the voting system for the next competition should rather be via registration. It would be much better if all the voters would really play the games.

(But I must say the info you have is not entirely correct, blueflare. There is actually a competition only for the Driftmoon-enthusiast-circle: You can get one "lottery ticket" per place where you tell about the competition and Driftmoon and then of all the tickets, only one will win the game when it is complete. There is no requirement for anyone to vote for Driftmoon. -And this is following the 2beegame suggestions, that the finalists should advertise onwards.)

But like I said - Yes, I agree with you about the registration for voting! It would be good to change that for the next competition.

  • blueflare - 14 years ago

    well, this is awesome

from here on this voting thing is no longer about the games

it's now about how big your fanbase was prior to the competition

    vector conflict will probably win

kablooey, which deserves to win, probably won't, because mr. galindo is not particularly well known on the interpoop

i can only hope that during the next competition 2beegames makes it so one must register prior to voting, and that one will not be able to establish ulterior motives, such as "you can get the game for free if you spread the word about voting", DRIFTMOON

the only solace here is that kablooey has a good shot at winning the GOOD prize.

  • WxY - 14 years ago

To bad this has turned into a popularity contest and not one of hard work and true dedication to the making of an awesome game. For the two guys from Full Sail with Turba I salute you as obviously you don't have a large network of people yet but given the chance you will as your game is NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!

  • Angus - 14 years ago

"In my opinion, the winner should be picked by the judges, and only the judges."

The $5000 goes to the most popular game. thus, yes, it is a competition of who can advertise better.

However, the GRAND prize is picked based on the quality of the game in question.

  • rat2255 - 14 years ago

the reason you don't have to register to vote is because the poll is hosted on this site, www.polldaddy.com

  • rat2255 - 14 years ago

I think you don't have to register to vote and that would be why all the votes happened. I have been able to successfully vote without being signed in. and so yes the competition is based on who can advertise their game the best, not which game is better. In my opinion, the winner should be picked by the judges, and only the judges.

  • GaMeRmAsTeR - 14 years ago

    Vector conflict wins!!

    58% of the votes atm... (27/11 09:02 GMT 1+!!!

  • Colton - 14 years ago

First off, VC did get the huge jump by the admin's advertising on his own site, however every other top 4, excluding Turba, has a link to it aswell, and Driftmoon even has the poll integrated into his website, not just a link! Its not "advertising," he's ust posting the link where people can choose, even if they will most likly vote for VC.

  • James_02 - 14 years ago

but i thought they needed to register first? thats so this kind of thing wouldnt jhappen. but that doesnt still make sense because how can you get so many votes in like thirty minutes? that doesnt seem fair at all to me

  • James_02 - 14 years ago

but the whole point is to register first so mass voting like that cant happen i though? i dont see how this is fair at all.

  • Anon - 14 years ago

Well its hard to compete with a flash game that can get an ad out about voting to 200k people that play it from a big flash game site =\. Congrats though I guess.

  • Glider - 14 years ago

That's the point though- getting the people to vote for you, isn't it?
I mean, if people weren't posting this on blogs/sites/forums/whatnot all the polls would have like 100 votes consisting of each developer's family/friends/coworkers.

  • Jon - 14 years ago

Well I guess its hard to compete with mass advertising =\

  • James_02 - 14 years ago

well heres how vector conflict got allt he votes:

    http://www.digyourowngrave.com/2009/vote-for-vector-conflict-the-final-round/#comments

isnt that considered cheating>? i thought you had to register for the site first? i find it hard to believe a thousand people regsitered...

  • Glider - 14 years ago

If anyone was tampering with a poll it's: a) easy to check b) wouldn't do it so obviously. Guy probably just plugged it on a right place and it got him like 500 votes in half an hour.

  • Roger - 14 years ago

Seems to me like some tampering is going on :/

  • Anne - 14 years ago

I'm just wondering? How can the percentage of Vector conflict rise from 35% to 58% (and counting) in LESS than half an hour? It seems like quite a remarkable gain...

  • Glider - 14 years ago

There's still few days to go so I'm not sure who's gonna win, but my favorites are Driftmoon and Vector Conflict- completely different games but both very capturing.

    Good luck guys!

P.S. There were 120 games to start with so first 4 is pretty good place to be at anyhow.

  • The Gamer From Hell - 14 years ago

    Vector Conflict!!!

Its the best game ever. plz try it. u wont be sad about using some time on it

  • Jazza4Lyf - 14 years ago

Turba is so boring! And so is Vector Conflict! Kablooey! is the only one that brings anything special to scene! Driftmoon is defiantly up there but Kablooey! is the only truly original piece here!

Come on! VC @ 34%??? WTH!

  • BRz - 14 years ago

You rock Turba! Creativity, superior game!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hype - 14 years ago

Personally I find Vector Conflict boring... it reminds me of so many other games that are out there. Not very original. Things come at you and you shoot them lol. Big whoop. There are so many games like that.

  • Deeje - 14 years ago

All the finalists are great games, there's no need to bash any of them to get more votes for the one you prefer. I personally think Kablooey deserves it because it's the only one that is entirely unique. Can't even fit it into a genre.

The idea behind this whole competition is to give the winners a boost in their game design careers right? So you should vote for whichever developer you think has the most artistic and imaginative passion, because that's the developer who will use the prize money to create even greater games.

Cheers, good luck to all :)

  • delenn13 - 14 years ago

    Kablooey FTW! Innovative and original.

  • Old Man - 14 years ago

Atari Tank was a top-down 2D game, I think you're probably thinking of Battlezone. Vector Conflict looks a lot like Battlezone, but from what I've tried the gameplay is totally different, much more frenetic.

  • Cheesehead - 14 years ago

entity...i love how you said NOTHING about why Kablooey doesn't deserve to win... you just said its about how successful you are at getting votes :P Please elaborate on why Kablooey just doesn't deserve it... Is it because it causes you to think? :D

The concept is essentially a copy of a game Tanks (for Atari), but at least in tanks, you can move your gun/tank around on the map, instead of being a stationary turret that upgrades every once in a while :/... and Upgrades are STANDARD in games online today. The 3D? Its lines and squares and triangles... the 3D is simply a perception, and isn't too terribly hard to do with flash if you actually think about how 3D works.

  • curtis - 14 years ago

Turba.. FTW by far.. I start up one game and find myself playing consecutive rounds as if it where super smash bros. with some freind.. gotta always play just one more round. good job on this one.

  • Iron - 14 years ago

It's a tough contest, but as far as being fun goes, I gotta go with Turba.

  • blueflare - 14 years ago

the only game that is actually original here is kablooey!. :I

turba's yet another music-related puzzle game, driftmoon is an incredibly standard rpg, and vector conflict is like that old game whose name i forget (tanks? something like that). kablooey! is the only one that does anything new, and it's damn good too.

    it deserves to win.

  • entity - 14 years ago

Turba..? You gotta be kidding me- there is no ounce of originality in that game, seems more like a school project than an actual work of a serious developer.

Kablooey doesn't deserve to be in the last 4 either, it's obviously all about how successful you are in getting votes..

Driftmoon is very good, and Vector Conflict is the best- anyone who develops in flash sees that: the concept, the upgrades, the 3D- it's also the only game that would port to console successfully.

Good luck to everyone anyways, and good (objective and open eyed )judging from the site team. :)

  • James - 14 years ago

Has to be DriftMoon, c'mon can't even compare the other games to it :P

No they are all good, but DriftMoon gets my vote, just for the complexity and effort that has gone into it.

  • Goalie - 14 years ago

Vector Conflict gets my vote. It's intense, has a great style, would be killer on a console, and the music is awesome.

  • NK - 14 years ago

I'm going to Kablooey with this one. I've honestly never ever seen anything quite like it. It's original, interesting, innovative and creative. Pure brilliance in a can.

  • CJ - 14 years ago

Kablooey seriously needs to win. It's original, it's fun, it has flair, it's simply filled with creativity and vertigo gaming makes some of the best indie games ever. Support Kablooey!

  • master gamer - 14 years ago

TURBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys deserve the win.

  • Mikey - 14 years ago

Turba is the best one ever a+ they should win this poll

  • game on - 14 years ago

Turba IS the bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • stargateanubis14 - 14 years ago

Go Kablooey! The only TRULY original game on the boards!

  • hype - 14 years ago

Turba must win. The other games here don't even compare.

  • Jazza4Lyf - 14 years ago

    Driftmoon's good, but Kablooey! ROCKS!

    GO CHUBI!

  • Purple - 14 years ago

Driftmoon, the totally expansive RPG FTW!
