Knowing Stoney the way I do, he easily could do both -- so I voted for both.

I'll predict that if the poll shows that Larry's screwup was the least dumb, we'll never learn who the other reporter was. I'm guessing Geoff Baker.

The hose has a decoupler that disconnects, I think, and shuts off the flow. So gas pump guy had only embarrassment in the offing, while locked-keys-drive guy could've killed people. Also, I think we can all imagine ourselves doing the pump, but how do you get out of a car with it in drive?

I'm willing to bet that Mr. Stone is behind the gas station incident as well. Had the nozzle been torn off the pump there is an automatic shutoff that occurs so that limited gas is spilled. However, had the car with the key in the ignition, left on drive, made it's way to a busy street, there would have been a great chance of one or multiple car accidents. Either way both of you are very lucky nothing bad happened.

LOL at the car being in drive. 10x more boneheaded.

Heavy D., I agree with you. I could have voted for #1 as most boneheaded because it was so multi-layered, but I went with #2 because if not caught it could have cause so much more damage, even to the point of causing a gas explosion. The Times may have easily had one less reporter on its payroll.

I actually know someone, no not me, that DID drive off and ripped the hose from the gas pump. This person didn't even know it until someone flagged them down.

I'd be willing to wager that Stones story is the gas station story.
