While no vaccine is 100 percent safe or effective, all flu vaccines, including H1N1, are very, very safe -- especially when compared with illness from flu, which kills some 1,000 New Yorkers every year, on average, that is, in a normal flu season. Children are especially hard hit by the H1N1 strain of flu now circulating widely in the U.S. More than 130 have died. Parents who don't get their kids vaccinated because of irrational, unfounded fears are just not thinking about the real harm to their kids that flu can do. For responsible information on flu vaccine, go to www.cdc.gov/flu or to www.nyc.gov/health .
