The swine flu and the lack of vaccine is Bush's fault.

Mohammed was right. "Will of Allah", "kismet". Alfred E. Newman, "What me worry???" "Got too have something to keep the masses occupied", not sure but Nero probably said that.

I am not worried for myself because I am in the older age bracket that they don't think will be affected. But I take the regular flu shot each year as a precaution. I am concerning that parents of young children and pregnant women should listen to the doctors recommendations and get the swine flu shot. Being cautious is a good thing.

I will not get either shot, nor will I allow my grandchildren to get it. All this panic over something that in my opinion is not real. The almighty government rushed to get a pandemic and a vacvine with out really testing to see if it is effective. Just like our so called president, don't waste a chance to scare the masses into beleiving anything we say.

My kids and I have all had the normal flu shots or nasal mist, and we will get the H1N1 vaccine as soon as we can. The risks are far to great, especially with so many people not getting it.

While the Socialists in Congress and in the White House move to take our resources and our freedom, WBT focuses on the flu and Jake Delhomme...quick....look over here and pay no attention to the criminals who are about to break in your home and take everything from you....

I'm not sure why we are still concerned over a flu problem. The real problem is the 1990 page piece of mess the we and our decendants will be choking to death on for eternity thanks to our new socialist government.

If you are worried about our socialist government then please be true to your beliefs, Scott, and stay off our socialist roads and make sure you don't use our socialist postal system and oh, don't use our socialist internet any more.

Kathy, the word "to" that you used should be"too." Man wouldn't it be awsome if they found out the vaccine had some sort of adverse side effect.

A few things to consider:

1) The normal flu vaccine is 75% effective in preventing hospitalizations from flu related complications. It is not as effective as most people think, you can still get the flu, but in most cases it is much less severe.

2) The normal flu vaccine gives at least partial immunity to H1N1 (50-60%), if you get the normal vaccine you may not need the H1N1, consult with your doctor.

3) Thiomersal is a filler in all flu vaccines, but there is nearly double the amount of it included with H1N1. Thiomersal is an organomercury compound. Yes, mercury... and while nothing is proven, mercury is on the list of suspects for causes of autism in young children. Considering that the CDC is advising 2 shots for children under 10, that further increases their mercury exposure.

4) The mercury should also be a consideration for pregnant or nursing women. The H1N1 vaccine was never tested on pregnant or nursing mothers. Most doctors would even advise that pregnant women not receive the normal flu shot unless they are higher risk for exposure as the benefits may not out weigh the potential harm to the fetus.

5) In general the H1N1 flu is milder than the typical flu, as with the traditional flu there have been some severe reactions, typically lung related problems. If you do get the flu, see the doctor within the first 2 days of symptoms as Tamiflu has been shown to drastically reduce symptoms and shorten the time you are incapacitated. If you start experiencing breathing problems or blueness in the lips go to the emergency room immediately.

So there are some severe dangers associated with H1N1, mostly to those who are immuno-compromised and have pre-existing lung or breathing conditions. It is extremely dangerous to pregnant women if complications develop. My wife's doctor has just advised her to stay home as much as possible and wash hands and face a lot, but not to get the shot.

Pratt,

There are better ways to discuss politics than to be insulting and demeaning. Additionally your very non-Christian statement of wishing the death and illness on others pretty much explains you. "Judge not lest ye be judged."

Now I want to comment on Birthers, because it's fun. Please pay attention to 2 and 3 before you jump on me.

1) They have a valid argument, BHO has never released a long form birth certificate proving his birth in Hawaii. The short form, which he did release, is available to any child born to a citizen of that state, whether there or abroad. He has spent tons of money on lawyers to keep that document from being released or being proved to not exist. At the time of his birth his mother was not old enough by law to convey citizenship to her son.

2) If he was born a decade or two later, there would be no question as the law for conveying citizenship changed. I believe that we might as well assume this law would be applied to all existing questionable citizenship claims, which would cover BHO, making him a natural born citizen.

3) It is too late now. If for whatever reason he was proved ineligible it would throw this country into a tailspin and a recession the likes of which we have never seen. You would likely see civil revolts and potentially another civil war. So to the birther's.. it's not worth it DROP IT.

Dan S...

Do you think this holds true even after he leaves office and the "Executive Privilege" protection is removed?

Dan S

Kenny,
I think there would still be too many potentially damaging results from pressing the fact. You have the issue of what laws are now invalid because he shouldn't have been able to sign them, what laws were illegally veto'd. What to do with troop movements and the like as they were ordered by someone not legally able to give them orders.. etc etc etc. I'm pretty sure we're just better off letting it slide at this point. Besides the fact since the laws did in fact change later down the line, I think we'd be hard pressed to get the left leaning supreme court to not conclude what I did in #2.

I don't like his policies or politics, but this one is a tough one..

Jerry,
There is a considerable difference between providing infrastructure and what the government is currently trying to impose on the American people. Your statement shows that you posses a weak understanding of socialism, the constitution and the actual issues at the heart of the debate.

Kathy

Will, thanks for pointing out my mistake. You are correct - it should have been "too". But, why would you wish some adverse side effect on people who get the vaccine? I think that is somewhat sick.

Kathy
2009-10-30 22:31:19 ET

Dan S, you need to read the great decision written by the judge in the birther case. (http://www.scribd.com/doc/21808122/Judge-Carter-Ruling-on-MTD). It shows nicely how stupid the whole birther conspiracy theory is.

Kathy

Kenny, now that Obama is President, the courts have no say. It is up to Congress to invalidate his presidency. Figure the odds. I think legally, this whole issue is mute.
