Hughes had wavng at his curve ball. Posada should have called for it and insisted on it,he's the veteran. Unfortunately he's never been great at pitch selection. Did it the other night too, with Petitte. Two catcher's no brains

The mistake was messing around with the roles these young pitchers have. First Joba was warming up. Then he sits and Hughes gets up. Make up your mind already. Let them mentally prepare for their role. Hughes does not have a big track record, this is his first year in the pen and he's pitching to go to the World Series. He's used to the 8th inning. Let him pitch in the 8th. Don't suddenly throw him in there. Girardi treats his pitchers like robots. Give them their role (especially Joba and Phil), and stick to it!

Girardi made one good move for the previous game. He moved Matsui on front of Posada. Otherwise, he gave 2 games away with his penchant for emptying the can. Strangely, he left Pie in the Sky Burnett in when Burnett had already lost the game in the 1st.

Highes has a proven track record whereas Joba has been erratic and unreliable. Hughes was the right choice. The mistake was not putting Hughes in to start the 7th inning and instead putting him in a hole to start with ... that is all on Girardi's shoulders as another poor decision on his part. Girardi and Swisher are the big disappointments of the Yankees post season play. Take them out of the equation and the Yankees would already be in the WS!
