Are you in favor of the government limiting executive compensation for companies taxpayers bailed out?

0bama and the congress should cut their own salaries and perks by 90%, and also those of his cabinet, and those silly czars that he has. After that, then maybe they can justify cutting the salaries of executives and potential executives from the bailed out companies.

B O and his minnion CZARS have the same right to cut your $50,000 salary to $30,000 as he does to cut business exec's pay from $2 million to $1 million. What a CZAR does, no Cabinet member would ever do. Now you see why B O wants CZARS.

If any cuts need to be made like that it should be within the share holder's! NOT a hired socialist unknown. Money talks, and from what I see, you guys must be loaded with it. I have a friend that lost $10,000 of retirement funds through AIG. Cutting their benefits after robbing people of their hard earned money is just a start at what should happen to them.

Just what we need. The government telling people how much or little they can make. I think a lot of these people are crooks, but there are better ways to get our point across to the companies. How about not doing business with these companies. How about writing to the boards of these companies and explaining your decision. How about organized boycotts against the companies and their affiliates. To go the route that the Obama Admin wants to go is to go down a path that leads to a very slippery slope. Next thing we know, WE"LL be told how much we can make and what to do with the money, esp. if we receive any type of government check ( student loans, mortgages, other types of checks).

They should not interfere directly. However, things should be put in place to regulate top executive fiddling with numbers to show high profits and thus gaining huge bonuses. Secondly, there should be a law where share holders also get paid from the profits and not just the top executive. Set-up rules so that there can be no cheating and bringing down of companies by greedy people.

Uh, no. It was an investment that our government made. That means the federal government is now the majority stock-holder in those companies which took our billions of dollars in tax dollars. As such, the federal government gets to make the rules. Thats how it works. These companies understood this when they accepted their government bailout.

Hey Reen, if you are so pro-small business then you should love the trust-busting that is now going on with the health insurance industry. When states like Alabama can be dominated by ONE company in the field of health insurance, there is obviously no room for smaller up-and-coming competitors.

It's UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

No government has the right to dictate to private enterprise the terms of their approved compensation. It is up to the shareholders to have the voice and be made aware of the company operation and decide to award compensation on performance. It is unconstitutional for the government to have the authority to do this. Some institutions were forced to take TARP funds in order to provide a blanket cover for those insolvent institutions so there would not be a run on the banks...but this could have been handled in a different manner and those institutions should have been let fail as did the many savings and loan institutions in prior years. The government is overstepping its authority and also leaving responsibilty to unelected officials to act on its behalf... a shadow government run by czars. How is their pay established...by racking up assaults on private corporations? I would like to know how the czar's pay is established and approved by whom. The pay czar insists he is not a czar...then what is his actual title and who held this job during the last administration. Just one of many questions that the public would like to know. Thank you. As much as I disagree with any bailouts, if a company made bad loans, bad investments, they should flop. But, a contract with an employee is a legal and binding contract. Even if the person made some really bad loans, his contract still holds firm.

I worked for a major corporation, my weekly check was smaller then most of the people I supervised, but I knew at the end of the year, I would get a bonus check which made up for all that unpaid overtime I gave. Now this bonus was based on the ENTIRE company making a profit, so there was a lot of hard work. I figured it out one year, my base pay of $19,000 a year (USD) and my bonus of $30,000 devided by the number of hours I worked, I made $9 and hour. Heck, I paid my workers between $24 and $32 per hour.

The executives of these companies mislead their share holders. They took government money to stay afloat. If the share holders had to take the hit big time, so should the Executives . The Employees of these companies took the hit big time, so should the Executives. We are now share holders, not the government. I expect them to raise up their companies to the standards they belong, do not risk share holders money. then when they are back on track and prove that they have earned the billions of dollars they get paid we will no longer tell them what their compensation will be.

Well, I would be in favor, I do not believe any man is worth that kind of money, company stock, yes, for SALE only after retirement. That would give them a reason to work hard to see the Company succeeds. But I fear it will lower others wages also, think about it, these LOWER salaries might well give some companies an advantage in what they do or sell. If you save $millions every year on Salaries, you could afford to lower prices and STILL be far ahead of your competition because of much cheaper labor cost. OTHERS in that case, would be forced by everyday market forces to reduce their peoples salaries. It is common sense, but I hope I'm wrong cause one the Bama CZARS already made it so, the fact his actions just may be UNCONSTITUTIONAL is another story for the Supreme Court to look into, is it not?.

How will we recouped our investment with mediocre management?

If a company is bailed out by taxpayers then of course the company is going to have to answer to government officials. Everything from what goods and services are being produced to employee compensation will be under scrutiny. This happens even in the free market when one company or partnership buys out another company, the first thing that happens are executives pay schedules are negotiated and altered.
After all why was the company bailed out in the first place? I think the money can be much better used (investing in capital or buying out the government's claims) than paying execessive bonuses or ridiculous salary contracts.

Jeana: Your talking about redistribution of wealth. We owned a small business. This year we paid 60% taxes on $10,000 of est. income. Of course some of that will come back based on expenses. We WERE small business so know the TRUTH.

Why should we get more when we're not paying the taxes? Why should we receive big refunds when we're not paying the BIG taxes?

When we bailed out the auto company we also failed. Some of these employees were recently on strike. What, their making $60-$80.00 an hour! They have "striked" themselves right out of business along with the idiots running the company. AND the unions. Did any of them wonder how many cars would be sold when they'll be costing $40,000 or more! We just buy used vehicles now. Can't afford to pay for a vehicle that by the time its paid for its fallen apart. Really stupid investment.

Our state funded health care program is now in trouble. I always thought this form of welfare was to be a stepping stone, NOT a way of life. Yet, I know familys from our community that have 5-10 kids. They keep reproducing and I'm paying for their dental, health, eyes, etc. If you can't afford paying for your kids QUIT HAVING THEM!

Its just amazing to me. There are people in our community who don't want better jobs because they'd lose this health care. A woman had her kid at 45 but that will keep her in the system until she's probably ready for medicare. Sickening.

Now our state is in big trouble and cutting back.
