Any dog that isn't properly trained is a potential hazard. I wouldn't have a Staffie under my present circumstances because I can't provide the right environment for one but there's a couple of lovely friendly Staffies in the neighbourhood who are as soft as anything and a darn sight more obedient (or perhaps I should say less stubborn) than my mongrel!
I can't understand any genuine dog lover owning an animal for "status" purposes. If you want a working dog, you buy from an appropriate breeder and do the training of yourself as well as the dog. If you want a pet, you still have to train it (and possibly members of your family!) but it becomes a member of your family.
Well trained Staffies can be wonderful pets or working dogs - as usual, it is us humans that mess things up.
