I would love to have a dress, but the two options are not good for every body type. The belt is to high and the bottom has way to much material. I think a wrap dress even a fo-wrap dress would look best on most body types. The dress options now will only look good on bigger people. If there is a place to summit an idea I would love to know. Thanks

Well it looks like the same dress with a different collar. Why is this being presented again when everyone hated it the first time? My suggestion is that you present 2 0r 3 actually different dresses and then have a vote with the winner being wear tested. In the age of computers and photoshop a digital version can be presented. Then the company can spend the money to have it wear tested.

I want the red Delta wrap dress. It's beautiful & fits our standards. I have shown the image to many many flight attendant's & other company members & all I have gotten was positive feedback.

Both of these look like raincoats!!! The belt is awful. I agree with Chelsea, that the Delta dresses are flattering for almost all body types and would love to have something similar. Whatever happens, they need to be made from quality materials with minimum polyester so they are comfortable (and not flammable).

Something to one of these standards would be nice so that it would fit all body types.

The belt is way too high. I see only sz 16 and over wearing this awful thing. Back to the drawing board please. A wrap dress would be most flattering to the majority of the ladies.

The wrap dress and this one would make us appear larger even if we are thin! It's the ugliest thing I ever seen. Having a dress with elastic in the waist will make everybody seems wider! Other airlines have people of different sizes from 0 to 16, and they don’t look like a walking floating balloon. Where are the other options? It's seems like you guys have chosen the options that we rejected. Please, give us better choices. We want dresses that look good and professional.

Kim

The model is thin and looks fat in both examples. I look forward to the dress but lets do something that doesnt pass for maternity wear.

Tiffany
2009-10-24 02:02:51 ET

That is hideous! Seriously-if we can't get this right, we just need to consider an A line skirt or something, this can't be THAT difficult...who's designing these things!? I agree, we need to look at other airlines dresses/jumpers that look descent and whoever said this thing looked like a raincoat....I agree!

ps....whatever we choose it needs to have some give to it, a spandex blend of some sort.

Jo

Do other airlines spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to decide what uniform pieces make flight attendants look professional? Both of these dresses are unacceptable! These are exactly what we voted against! The Delta dress is perfect! Listen to us for once TWU!

Seriously those dresses are UGLY and FRUMPY. If Delta can have great looking dresses why can't Southwest? Back to the drawing board please!

I think that a faux-wrap dress (knee length or just above without a belt) with rouching that drapes a little in the front and off to the left side into a slight gather there, would be flattering on all body types. The rouching would hide a multitude of sins. The collar should be a stand up mock (like the oriental style collars) with the dress having a V neckline. The material would have to be something that has some give to it so that it lays nicely on the women wearing it. You could offer options such as long sleeves or short sleeves.
If we can't come up with a uniform dress of our own, then I agree that the Delta dress is a better fit than the two options shown here.

This dress is unsuitable for anyone of anysize.....please go back to the drawing board, and while your at it it, design a skirt/skort... IZOD golf wear with the new microfibers, has a panel in the back and front (so it looks like a skirt), wears well, looks great on any size and travels well, take it from a golfer! Perhaps event new golf shirts of microfiber, they would wear so much better and not fade!....Looking professional all the time...

2009-10-24 14:58:39 ET

I agree with everyone on the Delta dress. I have seen small and large women in them and they look great and flatter both. I don't think my grandma would wear either one of our choices and she's not too picky. THese look nothing like any of the examples from the survey that went out a while back. We need a simple faux-wrap with a thin tie-belt, not a trench coat belt. There is way too much material here to be flattering. Also, the faux-wrap seam should not go straight down the middle. It needs to be off-set to even look acceptable. These dresses are just ridiculous.

Lynn
2009-10-24 15:56:42 ET

I agree, UGLY and FRUMPY!!! That dress has too much wrong stuff going on!! Why can't we have a simple, classy design. More of an aline style and no elastic at the waist. We want to look professional not ridiculous.

melissa

Talking to my coworker friends and NONE of us would wear this dress. You cannot have a full skirt and do our jobs. It's already difficult enough to get down the aisle of the aircraft with tailored clothing. Please don't try to reinvent the wheel...just a nice slim dress (even our old Star Trek Dress is better than this!)

Amy
2009-10-24 21:01:50 ET

the delta dress is very nice, but did you know it only goes up to a size 6? i do love the idea, and i would love to have more pieces to choose from. how about a vest thats not sweater material or the pants that ALL the other airlines wear!!! they look good on everyone! why is southwest continually out of style and 20 years behind!

Dee
2009-10-24 21:44:50 ET

If the company is going for a more professional look...this is NOT it! Again, the Delta dress if you have seen it is very nice and professional and would fit all body types. I've seen it. The wrap style looks great. Not everyone will wear a dress, but this proposed dress for us here is absolutely hideous! In my opinion nobody will wear this if the company wastes money on this one. Its tasteless and I really don't think anyone wants to look this bad. Its unflattering and horrible. Could you really imagine someone larger wearing this....it would be a balloon or a tent....it even looks it on the model who is small. Send this one back to the drawing board. If there isn't an improvement try a different material a skirt or something else.....anything else....just NOT this!!

THIS IS AWFUL. How many times do we have to say that it looks like a maids uniform and that there's to much fabric on the bottom?! The revised version does not help at all; they're both junk. Can we PLEASE have an "A line dress," without all the fabric, that will make even small women look "hippy?" How about someone (female preferred) with some fashion sense to start making these decisions? Oh now THERE's an idea.

meanjellybean
2009-10-25 12:28:56 ET

There's not much difference between the two. The fabric choice looks horrible and seems as though it will fade. If we want to go the option of a dress why can't we go for a more polished look like other airlines have. Maybe even a wool blend?

Marek
2009-10-25 15:34:11 ET

WOW - I won't be wearing the dress since I'm a guy, but DEFINITELY UGLY. WAYYYY too much material flowing down below. It reminds me of the black one piece jumpsuit that the ramp or provo wears sometimes. Something my mom would have wore back in the 80s. LOL It looks like a smock to paint in; something Alice from 'The Brady Bunch' would have wore as she's cooking dinner or cleaning. Unreal.

Seriously, I'm starting to wonder if our Company WANTS us to look bad. The dress (and most of the other new uniform pieces) looks terrible. I would LOVE to wear the Delta (red) wrap dress, but obviously in a TRUE navy color. The company seems to always go "cheap." Heck, I'd PAY for a "higher quality" uniform! Let's be honest. We look like crap. It's time we start looking professional.

Am I the only one who likes this dress? It has a really cute retro look and I believe it would be flattering on more people than most think it would. I wish you guys would give it a chance. We are going to end up with no dress at all.

People, I think you are forgetting something. This is going to be a Cintas dress. There is no way that we are going to wind up with something that is going to be even close to red carpet. It's going to a a flight attendant dress. Made for every size and every body type and therefore automatically somewhat frumpy. Even if we get a great dress, there will still be people who will refuse to order their correct size and will wind up looking like overstuffed sausages. It will be tragic. Can't we just leave it alone and add insult to injury?

A wrap around dress is always the most flattering with an at waist pull. Simple and streamline classic would be the best.

O My Golly ... honestly folks ... are you looking at what we are looking at .. this is a dress that I have seen before on a British Cruise Line ship that the maids wear ... really ... I thought Southwest had taste ... with this dress ??? NOT ANY MORE! Please dress fairies do NOT wish this dress upon any female!

Oh, my! I can not believe how awful this dress is! The belt and all that material!! How can you work in something like that plus it will make everyone look huge! This is the 4th airline I have worked for and I always wore the dress but, if it looked like the one SW is proposing you wouldnt catch me in it! A simple A line dress always works best on everyone! Hope they come up with something better! Sigh!

I agree about the Delta red dress. I know we can't have the exact same thing but I voted for the wrap dress the first time and this is not it. I also like the zip front v-neck Usairways dress. Dresses that hit above or at the knee are the most flattering. I thought we were trying to bring some sexy back!

I would like to have a dress but not that one ! I am aware after being on the uniform committee at one time of how hard it is to please everyone. Especially with everyone being a different shape and size. I would like the company to give us a budget, our allowance, set simple guide lines and let us design our own uniforms. The number one reason for this is, I see no consistency in any other work group that wears our uniform. I asked once why OPS, CSA, CSS and other employee groups were allowed to wear whatever they want to work ? I was told by management that it was a decision made by each station manager. We are actually paying for our uniforms in some cases and being held to a higher standard of how to wear them. ( uniform checks in the lounge ) I would like a flight attendant only committee to be put in place. We have several FA's that have fashion merchandising degrees and experience that would be more useful to our group than people in other departments that don't wear our uniforms or employees that are not held to such strict guidelines like inflight. I had the opportunity to tour the factory in Chicago that makes our uniforms. The majority of the products I saw were for janitors, plumbers, trash men, hotel wait staff, maids, etc...Believe me, I don't want to offend anyone because we all know on the luv jet we do the jobs of some of those people. But I am a Flight attendant and I truly believe if you feel comfortable, you look good, you will project a positive attitude. I would like to see our union support this idea along with fellow FA's ! Let's improve our image and moral !

I agree with a majority of the comments already made. The flight attendants of Southwest always look very frumpy. I would never be caught dead in the uniform outside of work. We definitely need a higher quality and more up to date style for our uniforms. I see Delta's uniform pieces and they look great. I also agree with Val in regards to other work groups not having to adhere to the same standards, and if it is going to stay that way get the flight attendants a different uniform from the ground personal.

Agree w/ Shae & Dawn. We have a very talented in house pool to utilize. 95% of us would probably volunteer time. Utilizing ANYONE who doesn't wear the FA uniform is like sending the back office to do the front office job. The Delta dress is nice but was privately designed therefore not much chance of us getting it. The Gold Standard with in the garment industry with the most flattering fits are now & always have been either an "A Line" or a "Mock or Real Wrap" and just above the knee, not a mini dress. These two elements together style and length do the most to slim the body. It's proven. Look through garment style books. The third runner up is one with princess seams but that can be problematic with anyone who has a little tummy roll. These styles are designed to be more forgiving and to be worn with a NARROW tie through belt whether real or faux, not a wide coat belt as shown. Personally, I would not purchase either of these dresses not only because I think they are too bulky but also because as far as I know, no standard is set as to what to wear to cover our legs...stocking, tights, bare, what? If we are not careful we'll run into the exact problem that we have with some wearing shorts now. No offense but just plain hideous and I know you guys know what I mean. I would be worried about tearing nylons while cleaning the plane, etc. They are also very hot! If we are going to push forward with a dress at the least expensive price point, I would suggest the untucked shirt be lengthened to a dress in an "A Line" fashion. How attractive and consistent would that be? Now the FA's can wear either and still look the same from at least the waist up. I know there are many issues to consider here but I personally think that in these economic times we should pass on the dress idea all together and revisit later. I do think we should severely limit the options for the FA uniform to insure standardization. Navy Slacks, Blue or White shirt (and even here, though I like the way the white shirt looks best, it doesn't hold up color-wise when not washed properly and the cuffs get too dirty too fast) Navy Blazer and only one sweater option, either vest or full sweater even if it's the new zip front. That's it for winter. Summer could include the same option in navy shorts or skirt/skort with shirt (no polos-too many beer bellies out there for flight crew to be wearing them) or the same pants combo mentioned above. Those changes alone will greatly enhance and cohesive look with out any additional expense at this time. One note for those of you pushing Patent Leather...though I think it's a great idea with the new pant, it does scuff easily and once it does looks awful. I have little faith that the majority will take proper care of that type of shoe. I have no objections to using it as an option for those that do wish to. If we make too big of an issue over our footwear, next thing you know, we'll be telling everyone which shoe to buy and I don't think that's the intent here, is it?

I have been a big cheerleader for the addition of a dress, but I too am taking a pass on these choices. The Delta dress would be my dress of choice as well! Why is it that they have about 15 different pieces and yet they still look cohesive as a work group and all of our pieces just look like a hot mess! I also like Virgin Americas skirt and pant and believe it or not their entire uniform is Cintas! So...it comes down to money in the end.

I agree with Cherry..........we need to table the dress idea and re-visit when the crappy economy has recovered. Choosing a dress just to choose a dress is money wasted. The time spent on this particular uniform piece is bordering on ridiculous.........can we all just wear uniforms that fit properly and call it a day?!

Well, Hoew, seriously, can it be costing an outlandish amount of money to come uo with 2 patterns ? they both look laughable, cheap, and not at all flattering.Embarrassing to put it mildly.
It seems like, the easiest , smartest thing to do would be to look at what Cintas has in stock for aline/pencil skirts, classy, navy wrinkle free, like the new pant material, and start with this....IMMEDIATELY.
Then, later down the road, we challenge our creative Flight attendants out there to design one of their own, and have a fashion show for us all, (Real or Virtual ). Lots of us have Family and friends in the business that would love to be a part of this, we can make it fun, and eventually, we will come up with a one of a kind gorgeous dress for all to be delighted to wear...
I'm certainly game, I've been eyeing some beautiful material and patterns to send abroad to my sister in Ireland to get a prototype, she's an awesome designer, and very happy to help !!
Let's try to make this fun, it sure has been like pulling teeth up until now !! eeeuch !!
Dying to hear any feedback, and yes, mass quantities of any product can be done when you know the right people. And fast too ..!

Well, I'm thankful that SWA consider a dress. A dress economize the luggage space in my bag, for example instead of two pants and three blouses, one or two more dresses will do. But, the suggested dress it will not look good in all body type, I also think the style looks like if F/A are maid, not a representative of the most wonderful airline in the airline industry. I also think this dress it's heavy and will wrinkle too much in the bag as well. This style dress it will only look good in a tall and kind full figure women. I'm 5'2 and 105 lb this type of dress will be so big for my body type, and I'll not buy this dress. I wish to have a dress, still. But, please if we can work in find it the right material for the dress as well, as F/A we need something that will no wrinkle, light fabrics and a dress that will flatter all body types. Wrap around dress it's a wonderful options. Please suggest another style!!!!!

Both dresses are horrible!! I say we scrap the dress, unless the dress is modeled after the Delta dress. If we can put together a dress as nice as the Delta dress I am all for it. If that is not possible please scrap it and just give us a pencil skirt. Every body type looks good in a pencil skirt.

Sam
2009-11-04 20:36:51 ET

What are you thinking??? Those dresses make her look four times bigger than she really is. The dresses that Delta has are GREAT!! Why can't we have something like that? Or an "A" line skirt would be preferable to either dress. But please no wool. Too many people are allergic to wool. How about a wash and wear Jersey??

martha
2009-11-04 20:38:53 ET

The dress they are showing as a prototype--wouldn't even look good on a size 2! It would be a wrinkled mess after a short drive to work, let alone 3 days buckled into a jumpseat for 4-6 landings! The pleats at waist level would make anyone look huge, and the fabric is atrocious. The Delta dress is the perfect style for the majority of body types. The fabric must be a softer fabric, that won't wrinkle (think a good quality jersey fabric). We don't have to re-invent the wheel here, if Delta's dress (which has been in use for over 2 years) is working, and it's the style we voted on--WHY is this an issue???? Why don't we ask Project Runway to develop a challenge and design a dress for Southwest Airlines. It would be great publicity and I sure a fledgling designer could come up with a better opetion than anything that has been presented to us, so far.

Ann
2009-11-09 21:42:03 ET

I'm not a dresswearer. I would not wear either of these choices if I had to. While the styling leaves a lot to be desired, the material that they would be constructed out of will play a BIG part in how they wear. If like the current uniform pieces which do not stay looking good for any length of time, any dress with the same quality of material will be a disaster. Also what about production timing? Cintas can't seem to keep up nor anticipate the needs of our workforce.

Kristian
2009-11-10 19:02:57 ET

Why do we continually go through this at Southwest? Both options look like a Maternity Dress. Can we please have a simple wrap dress that looks like the Delta dress with quality materials. There are professionals who design dresses for a living and we need to find one quickly instead of letting people who are not professionals keep attempting a design.

Please stop using low-quality fabrics that will fade and will wrinkle. I will be willing to pay more out of my own pocket for QUALITY pieces. If the company spends the money upfront for a professional designer, quality fabrics, and professional flattering cuts, the company will see a very good return on their investment.

Thank You
