While I think that it is responsibility of a public health care worker to get the flu shot as well as all immunizations, it is still the CHOICE and FREEWILL of each person to decide the best course of action for their own health and well being.
I am not opposed to private medical companies (ambulance services, medical offices, hospitals, etc) requiring their employees to get the shot. If someone is unhappy with that job requirement, they have the FREEDOM to find another medical/health care career.
We allow the government too much control over our free will. Its wrong.
So many tell me "its only for our own good" but I don't want to find out 20 years from now that, "oops, sorry guys, I guess there was side effects after all. my bad" I want to have the choice of accepting the risk.
I am an adult. I have a brain. I think for myself. I have the ability to judge right and wrong for myself. I can weigh the risk and benefits for myself. Those choices may not be the same for others, and I would never force my choice onto anyone and I want that same respect.
FYI.....I'm in the medical field.

I agree with the first person who responded....I am a registered nurse and would look for work elsewhere should mandatory vaccinations come into being. I have the right to decide what goes into my body, not the government. I am presenting at the Cumberland Public Library to the Mom's Club this very topic, H1N1 from a historical perspective as well as holistic interventions for a strong immune system, clearly the best approach to this pandemic. It is NOT for me to make this decision for others. My responsibility lies in reporting the facts correctly, something the media falls short of. Sorry, love you guys at Channel 10 but you only tell one side of the story.
Respectfully submitted.

I think health care workers definetly should get the flu and H1N1 vaccine, because if they get sick and can't work then who takes care of the patients. My sister is a healthcare worker and she gets her flu shots every year.

Bonnie, when are you doing your lecture at the library? I would love to attend. It would be wonderful if the news media would pick up on that and like you said, present both sides of this story. I know that calm people, receiving correct information about a controversial subject doesn't help the ratings for new stations and papers, but I wish more people were fully informed and not scared into something that they may or may not need.
