There's a double standard. The mentally ill Keith Olberman announces for the NFL.

Hitler was good in the beginning, but he went too far. Marge Schott

And Marge was allowed to own a team.

This was played out in the media, not by the NFL or owners. Players were "told" to speak out against Limbaugh. What part of that is fair? Limbaugh is an entertainer and he does just that on his show. Do I listen to R. Limbaugh, no, I do not care for his type of show. His being an owner should have taken place in a board room, votes by owners and all handled by the NFL, not the media, players or unions. Yes, Rush Limbaugh was a victim. And that is how the left plays the game. If they don't like you they run a smear campaign, lie if necessary, throw stuff out there and hope it sticks. Did anyone ever source the the statements by Limbaugh, to show he did say them?

Sports are government sponsored games to give us the excuse to loaf, eat and grow obsese. Healthcare will be government controlled life and death for those who fail to conform to health care officials norms. The government is winning when games replace forced conformity since the keep us from seeing what is behind the curtain.

I believe both choices are somewhat true. Sure, what he said in the broadcast booth hurt him but even if he hadn't said anything controversial the likes of the (Revs.??) Sharpton and Jackson would have objected. All this decision has done is to further empower certain groups or individuals and will only increase their interference in sports as well as any subject that makes headlines.

Most of this has been tied to the supposed comments Rush made about Donovan McNabb. His comments were not about McNabb, but the media's perception and promotion of him, but the media spun it to make it appear as an attack of McNabb. So, the media strikes again!

The NFL has many Racist playing on the field and in the broadcast booth , unlike the good honest man like Rush. What about the NBA "Nets" co-owner Jay-Z (Shawn Carter). Oh yes, I forgot only a white man can be a racist in the America of today. Rush speaks the truth which the Racist can not here or understand. Lies come easier than the Truth for the true Racist.

Rush is the Top Banana in the fastest growing media outlet, "Talk Radio". He stands for a traditional Constitution with the rights of the individual as its highest priority.

No wonder he has been, is now, and will by villified by people who contribute nada and nothing to the well-being of the greatest social experience in the history of the world.

The words in the song, "Battle Hymn of the Republic", sums it up to a "T". America be wary of what you wish for. It is not Rush Limbaugh who will be the loser. As one famous contemporary author has said, "I fear America is losing its soul and that will be a sad day for all of us".

Jean

Rush lives to be the "victim". Now he has something else to rant about on air everyday. Why does anyone even listen to him? I am all for free speech but the right wing media, including WBT, is out of control. Can you imagine an NFL team with him in charge? He is so pompous that he probably thinks he could own the team, coach and be a punt returner!

This is what happens when you take a stand on your principals.
Eventually your opponents find a chance to strike back and with the threat of the media on side with Jackson and Sharpton, the team owners woosed out.

Rush would not have been comfortable amongst the squeemish owner's group anyway. I guess, these days, football really is just a facade for a money machine.

Rush would have been great for the NFL. With a loyal listener base in the millions he could have easily added millions of dollars to the NFL Owners and Players bottom line.

As it is, this will alienate some of his base and cause a drop in the net income of the NFL.

It is sad that the dichotomy of the NFL is so full of over paid prima donnas including felons, racist, drug addicts, good people and bad. Yet they have no room for a conservative.

Rush would have been a boon to the NFL - just goes to show - in this country you can be any kind of despicable cad - tax dodge, liar, womanizer etc. if you are a liberal you get a pass - if you are a conservative you'd better be squeaky clean - and then some.

There is no bigger supporter of the NFL than Rush. And the fact he's close friends with many black players. I hope he sues the NFL for discrimination and/or defamation of character tied to ecomments made by the commissioner and the false statements made by and carried on the other state run media TV channels.

Tom
2009-10-15 11:33:39 ET

Rush was a victim of the continual liberal slander about principled conservatives that they are somehow "racist" when all of the ones I know of are post racial and ignore race. I attend a conservative church, fully integrated congregation, and everyone is a member of the only race acknowledged by God, the human race. Having listened to Rush for years and his guest host Walter Williams and frequent guest Thomas Sowell, I know Rush judges people on character and competence only. This is the NFL's loss, as Rush would demand excellence from the Rams organization.

ED

I believe Rush IS a victim, but he had to know this was coming. From the CBS icons of Edwards, Cronkite, Rather, ABC icons Huntley & Brinkley, Jennings, NBC's Brokaw, the list of left leaning elitists' go on and on. Limbaugh was the first to have a national audience hear the other side of big issues. You don't "rain on the liberal elites parade" and not pay. As has been brought up by others, there are pleanty of pro team owners who have made equally questionable statements that were never seriously threatened.

Limbaugh's inflated ego has swollen his eyes shut and short-circuited what’s left of his brain. He claims "It's a sad thing that our country, over 200 years old now, needs pioneers all over again". He fancies himself a pioneer, yet he also claims that he is being shut out of the mainstream. He is speaking in riddles. A mainstreaming pioneer? A pioneer who buys a football team? Schizophrenic.

While the Limbaugh busies himself pretending that he is not humiliated by this very public rejection, l shall use this opportunity to take personal delight in what I hope is the first of many more such episodes to come. A slice of humble pie should go very nicely with the feasts of rage, hatred and divisiveness that he has gorges himself on.

2009-10-15 12:03:41 ET

Our own, Jerry Richardson, owns Denny's. He signed a deal with NAACP to stop discrimination, which was considered transparent at the time. Yet, he got a franchise in the NFL. So why was Rush Limbaugh vilified by the media and players. It seems the further they want from racism, the more they bring it up. It'll never go away because certain people will lose their way of earning an income on the back of racism. And that means we are all victims of that group, not just Rush Limbaugh.
And I agree with Rick on class envy.

Sambone
2009-10-15 12:07:24 ET

Rush loosing weight, going on the Leno show, Faux/GOP interview, Today interview and yet Rush is denying he said this:

Limbaugh said: “I think the guy’s wrong. I think not only it was racism, it was justifiable racism. I mean, that’s the lesson we’re being taught here today. Kid shouldn’t have been on the bus anyway. We need segregated buses — it was invading space and stuff. This is Obama’s America.”

Now were suppose to feel sad because big googoo-gaga Rush got REJECTED (thumb in his mouth) and now he wants to blame this on African-American's for being black.

I guess the free market has made its decision. It has nothing to do with being conservative. Most NFL owners fit the true definition of a conservative. They banned Michael Vick.
Rush may be more welcome in the NA$CAR garage. Now that WOULD be fun!

Chris
2009-10-15 12:26:18 ET

My understanding is that the owners made it clear they did not want Rush. Then the group Rush was with tossed him overboard when they saw their deal going down the drain. This is the market at its purest. The price was too high, so Rush had to go. That is capitalism the way it is supposed to work.

The NFL tolerates Lenoard Little, St. Louis Rams, DUI & Manslaughter. The NFL tolerates Michael Vick, Atlanta Falcons, Dog Fighting but the NFL can't tolerate a radio host. I think college football has gained many more fans this week and the NFL has lost a few.

Commissioner Goodell had no intention of allowing someone like Limbaugh into the NFL family at a time that the league and players are preparing to sit down and hash out a new collective bargaining agreement. The last thing they want is to do is introduce more controversy to an already tense situation.

This was the wrong time for Rush though it would have been fun to watch had he been successful. Can you imagine the liberal media reacting to this had the deal completed?

Interesting to see that no one has mentioned that the NFL owners and players tolerate murderers, thieves, rapists, dog abusers, gamblers and who knows what else, but can somehow find the "outrage" to vilify Rush Limbaugh over fabricated and out-of-context quotes. No one has mentioned that one of Rush's accusers on CNN was himself guilty of a DUI hit and run, that left the victim paralyzed, yet used his celebrity influence to evade serious charges (following the shining example of Ted Kennedy's killing of an innocent girl). Rush's "crime" is that he is conservative, poking holes in liberal ideas and generally not kowtowing to the whims of the media. Instead, he is a spokesman for traditional American values, supports the Constitution, and opposes the converion of our great country to socialism/marxism/statism. We are seeing everyday how the media, nor the Obama Administration, cannot deal with criticism, nor even with challenges to their ideas. There is no debate on the merit of issues any more, there is simple-minded name calling and race baiting, and all this has worsened since the ascendency of Obama and his minions.

2009-10-15 13:01:41 ET

@Ivegonepostal: Keith has been in sports for many, many years. He was co-host of ESPN's Sportcenter before there was even MSNBC. BTW... you don't hear him getting into much political rhetoric on Sunday Night Football.

As far as Rush is concerned, political ideologies don't matter much when money is involved. I can bet you that most owners in the NFL are conservatives so that doesn't factor into the equation. The concern lies with his statements regarding racial overtones and some form of affirmative action in regards to NFL personnel. The point is that Rush is bad for business, plain and simple. It has absolutely nothing to deal with conservatives or liberals. It's about money.

Dear Sambone,

Enough. You've made your stand. Shut up.

Just like so many, usually liberals but not always, you can't look at the issue and the principles involved. Instead you are gleeful because a man you disagree with has suffered an injustice. Yet if this same injustice were perpetuated against someone you support you would not be able to contain your outrage. People like you are the downfall of America.

Many NFL Players beat their wives, use/sell drugs, drive drunk, kill animals, commit assault, and countless other issues...and Team owners that employ and protect them get in a twist that Rush Limbaugh could become an owner? They are in a twist because they do not agree with his opinions. His comments around Donovan McNabb were not about Donovan at all, but about the media. JayZ is minority owner in the NBA or NFL...I am not sure...but that's OK. Bob Johnson...a very active liberal is the majority owner of an NBA team...and that's ok. Why is it an outspoken Conservative is the only team owner folks have an issue with? Is he a victim...yeah. When you're the only one being treated in a negative way and you broke no laws...you're a victim. It's shameful that in a country that is supposed to have Freedom Of Speech as a right to everyone, that because he's a conservative, a person is victimized for being outspoken. You hypocrites here, and in the NFL like the Colt's owner, would never say a thing about Jesse Jackson buying into an NFL team. How many times...like when Michael Jordan's father was murdered...has Jesse Jackson called an event racially motivated without having any facts at all? You that are against Rush buying an NFL team make me sick. You are worthless and weak.

I cannot believe the comments on here, but I should not be suprised that his loyal sycophants aka ditto heads would feel that he is getting treated wrongfully. Liberal?"
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."-
John F Kennedy

BTW, I am a "Moderate" Republican not a "Liberal". I'm just sick that Rush, Glenn, etc. have hijacked the GOP. I'm really thinking about switching to Independent. God help the US if the "Wingnuts" take over the government. Look what they did under Bush. BTW, did WMD ever turn up? Mission Accomplished?

Czars are being appointed for everything else. Car czar, Pay czar, banking czar, doctor czar, hospital czar, school czar, free the criminal czar---so
why not just appoint an "ownership" czar. Barney Frank could be it and decide who is to own a car, house, dog, cat, have children, food and see a football game or own a part of a football team.
These czars could replace senators and congressmen and we would not have to worry about elections. Just allow the President to appoint the person he wants to make the decision. A czar or dictator might soon replace the presidency and we would vote there either.

There will be years when you are happy, and there will be years when I will be happy. There may even be years where we both are happy or unhappy with the direction of the country. Over the long run, I am fully confident that America will continue to move forward and improve. I am fully aware of what President Obama is doing, and I am happy - mostly. He has to move fast and take advantage of his mandate before it slips away. A year form now, we will have an election, and it's likely he will not have the majorities he has now. That's why I fully support him when he uses every opportunity to push through as much legislation as possible. It's rare to have an opportunity like he has, and it won't last. Eventually, your types will get back into power, and you will have a chance to promote your agenda. It's just the way it works.
