I think it is fair that Michael has gotten nominated, his sales went up high, tat's why he has gotten noinated. He deserves every award. On the other hand F*** Taylor Swift, why the hell was she nominated, i think she is so annoying. She shouldn't even sing i the first place. Sorry to the tayor fans but she's a big tim whore. Blowin kises to her "boyfried." and calling out to Joe. She's not even funny. I think kayne West was funny when he took the microphone from her, she doesn't deserve the award, and did you see her face, it was like she didn't expect to win, yeah right she knew what a fake ugly ass face. her eyes are too small. :P F*** her.

LOL at the haters. No one will ever be comparable to MJ. Regardless of whether or not he has released anything LATELY, he's still the best entertainer of ALL TIME.
You find me one person on this earth that can sell out a venue of 125000.
Find me on person who merely has to show his hand covered in a glittery glove and have people in hysterics/tears.
Find me on person who donated as much time and money to charities around the
Find me one person who endured the scrutiny he did.
Michael deserves every f-ing award that praises and aknolwdges his talent. I don't care if it's for looking cool in a gold bodysuit - the man DESERVES it.

Ok, King Of Pop or not you people have GOT to be kidding me!! he won ARTIST OF THE CENTURY!!!!!!!!!!! Give other artist a chance to shine!!!! he had his time! this PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF! and I dont even cus'! Yes he was a legend but thats why he won his awards when he was on his game! and its not like any one has a chance against him becuase having a dead man lose is just...disrespectful. And although im not a fan (actually...im not a fan AT ALL) Taylor swift im sorry, you had to go against him, and Lady Gaga (Who if you really listen to her voice will be legandary in her time ) it SUCKS that you dont get the chance you deserve. ......im sorry but this just isnt how it should be.

  • rachel - 14 years ago

Michael Jackson missed out on numerous awards and concerts (as we missed out on being able to see him perform) due to the jerks that were out to get him in numerous ways----especially money!!! When he wins it will all be well deserved! Michael you do have fans that really luv u in the USA!!! I hope he steals the night away as he did the first time he moonwalked!!! Still jealous of him even when he is gone. LONG LIVE MICHAEL!!!!!!!

Of course Michael Jackson should win these awards. It is obvious that he has withstood the test of time. Why do you think he is the King of Pop? Because he is simply the best. There are those who will try to attain his "place on the ladder", but he was at the top and no one, and I do mean NO ONE will ever be able to attain his place! His music is timeless! It is so true, in 10 years no one will know who Lady GaGa was and will not even be able to recall one of her songs. Michael was anything but a flash in the pan. I quote Barry Gordy, "he was quite simply the best entertainer that ever lived." Very true, Barry, very true. Michael deserves and I hope that he wins in each and every category. His fan base is huge and our love and respect for him will never faulter.

If it were not for Michael Jackson, nobody would even know some of today's "stars" even existed. Michael Jackson paved the way for today's artists. I find it almost wrong to mention the likes of Lady Gaga in the same sentence as the King of Pop.

Come back in 10 years and ask the following question: Who is Lady Gaga and name one song she sang. Nobody will remember who she is nor will they care. Replace that question with Michael Jackson and the list of songs will come flooding out.

Michael Jackson will forever be the King of Pop and today's "stars" are just flashes in the pan. They have no longevity or staying power. Today's artists are here today and forgotten tomorrow. The flavor of the week, so to speak.

I am hoping for and predicting a clean sweep for Michael at the AMA's...and rightly so. If not..then something is terribly wrong.

  • Armas - 15 years ago

LOL... Wht the hell, we will never see another MJ... Not in 100 000 years, if they nominate him every year, he will win those awards every year. Thats how fantastic MJ is dead or alive.... Just like Gazza in Namibia.

  • Patty - 15 years ago

If in the past, the rule to being nominated has been based on sales and airplay, why change the rules now that Michael Jackson is dead? Why is the media so bent out of shape in still trying to be mean to MJ? Michael deserves to be nominated and if the people want him to win, so be it.

I think that Michael deserves to have these awards. I thought that it was by popularity that these awards are given. The Number Ones by Michael Jackosn have just been the highest album sales of 2009. It is the best selling album and I quote .(To be fair, the American Music Awards are based on sales and radio data from Nielsen.) Young and old are buying his music. It doesnt matter how many awards he has won in the past or the fact that he past away. The fact is that he has a number one album and the people want him to be on top. Every album bought puts up the sales ; so, he deserves to be there as much as Lady Ga Ga and or Taylor. It is too bad for them that they are up against the King of Pop; but, at the same time what an honor for them. Michael worked hard for this right up to his last day....Anyone of these people could hope to have a quarter of the fans Michael has. He has them for a reason and deserves them.... We love him....

  • randi - 15 years ago

Sorry, but I don't feel he should nominated. He was the greatest entertainer that ever lived and I am an MJ fan, but, he hasn't put anything out for years!!!
He's received lots of awards when he was alive and I feel it is not fair to have him up for nominations. The only reason his music sold was because of his death.
If he was alive, his music wouldn't sell the way it has and he would not have been up for this award.

  • hilda - 15 years ago

Of course it isn't unfair.. the public wants MJ to win the awards.. he deserves it, and the AMAs should respect public opinion of what we think is super music. MJ's music is timeless. I actually think that if people like Eminem or Taylor Swift or any other person in the same category as Michael won the award instead of mj.. its a horrible n great disservice to music, to the public, and the music industry. The man defined it. He was the force driving it and without him now.. who cares about the music industry..

  • sureitan - 15 years ago

old fans feel nostalgic of his masterpieces and always remember his contributions to the music field-not the yonger generation, until he left..my sister who is 12 years old was mesmerised by his music and dance moves when she first contacted with his music after his leaving, either her friends were attracted by those fascinating performance and songs...they know Michael Jackson before, but only know abt the slanders from media. After truly knowing who's Michael Jackson, they feel surprise as he was so unique that they haven't seen from other artists...i think he deserves those awards, like diana said, true music is timeless.he will keep on inspiring the new generation despite his passing...

  • JAY - 15 years ago

MICHAEL JACKSON THE KING OF POP DESERVES THESE AMA ACCOLADES IF THE PUBLIC WISHES HIM TO HAVE THEM~AND OBVIOUSLY MOST PEOPLE DO. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST ANY OF THE YOUNG LIVING ENTERTAINERS. BUT WHO AMONG THEM CAN HONESTLY SAY THEY HAVE HAD AS MUCH A INFLUENCE WORLDWIDE BECAUSE OF THEIR MUSIC AND HUMITARIAN WORKS. MICHAEL WAS SO BELOVED FOR BOTH THOSE REASONS. AND APPARENTLY IS STILL BY A WHOLE NEW CROP OF UP AND COMING FANS. LONG MAY MICHAEL LIVE.

  • JONATHAN BRADY - 15 years ago

YOU KNOW THE RECENT SALES OF MICHAEL JACKSONS MUSIC IS NOT ONLY DUE TO FANS THAT ARE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER BUYING HEAVILY BUT ALSO DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS ARE TOO. THEY'RE JUST NOW DISCOVERING WHO WILL ALWAYS BE THE KING OF POP. I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD DISMISS WHO THEY ARE DECIDING TO FOLLOW SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO YOUNG OR NOT BORN THE FIRST TIME AROUND. HAVEN'T THEY ALWAYS SAID THAT THE YOUNG DECIDE THE TOP ENTERTAINERS AND SONGS ANYWAY.

  • Tina Hall - 15 years ago

I am nearly 50 yrs. old...I have loved MJ since I was eight! I Love all kinds of music...except the hardcore stuff and most rap....where will most of those people be in 2-5 years..Still singing? I highly dout it... not remembered that's for sure...MJ has been in our hearts and lives for 45 years! Even Elvis (who I loved ) never had the 'WHOLE' talent MJ had. HELL YEAH he needs to win...I don't watch the AMA'S anymore because of the stupid stuff they have now a days...but this year I will be glued to the TV...only because of MICHAEL JACKSON! I will have him in my heart until the day I day...I LOVE YOU MICHAEL! PLEASE KEEP KANYA WEST AWAY!!

  • angie - 15 years ago

(High five, Jane). I totally agree with you. Taylor is cute and popular, I have nothing against her. But for her to be nominated side by side with MJ? Are you kidding me?

  • Tamara - 15 years ago

I think Michael deserves every award he is up for. I am a believer in new artists, but None of them in his catorgory can touch him. If it wasn't for Michael Jackson The others wouldn't be doing what they do. I hardly watch the music award shows in last 5 years and i'm 32 yrs. old because there's barely any True Talent. there are a few out there today, but Michael beats those who are up against him. He is Classic and modern and everything inbetween. I hope he gets all 5 awards!

  • Bill - 15 years ago

I will be watching anything but the AMAS this year, Michael Jackson had his time in the spotlight and while much of his music is destined to become classic that is no reason to put him into the 2009 Awards.. If all the comments and reasoning for allowing this held any water then why haven't they nominated Elvis, Buddy Holley, John Lennon or any other dead superstars? Give me a break folks.. for years Elvis's albums were in the top of they sales charts, ditto for Lennon, but did they get put into the same category as people that released an album that year? As the writer said a memorial would be appropriate, but this is more of a carnival sideshow than the Neverland Ranch during a charity event.

  • Getreal - 15 years ago

The man is dead he has not released a damn thing but his monkey Bubbles in 10 years lol. Yes he had some good music and when they release the new stuff like this is it fine give him some awards but not on something released in 2003.

  • XAVIER - 15 years ago

I DON'T JUST THINK IT'S FAIR THAT MICHAEL SHOULD SWEEP EACH AND EVERY CATAGORY HE NOMINATED IN BUT I THINK IT WILL BE A HUGE RATINGS BOOST FOR THE AMAS TO HAVE HIM NOMINATED. I FOR ONE HAVE NOT BEEN A REGULAR WATCHER OF THE AMAS OR THE GRAMMYS FOR 18 TO 20 YEARS BECAUSE THE ONES I USED TO LISTEN TO BACK IN THE DAY HAVE NOT BEEN MENTIONED ON THOSE SHOWS TOO MUCH. AND TO ME MUCH OF NEW STUFF JUST DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME CHARISMA~ESPECIALLY WHEN COMPARED TO MICHAELS STUFF. SO ANYWAY I'LL BE WATCHING BECAUSE MICHAEL HAS BEEN NOMINATED.

  • JUDY - 15 years ago

IT'S NOT ONLY FAIR THAT MICHAEL GET ALL THE NOMINATIONS BUT I HOPE HE WINS IN EVERY CATAGORY IN WHICH HE HAS BEEN MENTIONED. IF THE PEOPLE VOTE FOR HIM TO WIN THEN HE SHOULD WIN. HE HAS INFLUENCED MODERN MUSIC FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND WILL CONTINUE EVEN AS TIME PASSES. LIKE THEY SAY THE GOOD ENTERTAINERS ARE AS GOOD AS ANY OTHER ENTERTAINER BUT A GREAT ONE SETS THE STANDARDS FOR HOW WELL SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. HE CAN NOT BE COMPARED TO ANYONE ELSE BUT RATHER HAS PEOPLE TRYING TO COMPARE THEMSELVES TO HIM. FOR ME AND MANY MANY OTHER THAT IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE MICHAEL JACKSON. LONG LIVE THE KING OF POP

  • Romi - 15 years ago

This is THE LEAST THEY CAN DO! Give him an award! WHO THE F**K Cares if the music was made along time ago...the only thing we gotta think about is, MOST OF THE Public was SOOO Cruel to him when he was alive. Are you telling me that Even for that, He doesnt deserve sorry?.

Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga have All these years to come. They're still gonna make music, and get awards. Michael is he's not here anymore, and you still wanna talk about how ITS UNFAIR? Wasnt it UNFAIR What the Public/media Put him through in 2005? SO I guess If its A BAD Embarrassing NEWS About him...Lets all watch it on TV! BUT WHen its about giving him a tribute...Why should we watch it right? Yeah I got that...but the Fans and ppl. that love MUSIC SAY OTHERWISE!!! So who ever wrote this article...Get a DAMN LIFE!

But why so relentlessly about Michael Jackson? However, I do not want to appoint another untalented singers like Taylor Swift because I do not like propio. Michael is the first who should be appointed, even though he died and had too many prizes. I do not care. I am Italian, and I discovered 25/06/09 Michael Jackson. Did not even know existed Thriller. I followed him when he died, the funeral of 7 July, saw his videos on YouTube and various information sites of different kinds. Although I have 15
years, are very wise ... He was a man wonderful, perfect! (He had some faults, but very few!) He had a heart of gold, and no one understood, except fan.Miley Cyrus makes me sick, Taylor Swift even worse! The papers are based on scandals, outputs and even things invented by themselves for ruining his career and his person. I saw a page on Wikipedia foundations Humanity and other (do not know where you are ...) and were really a lot. I wanted to print it but my mother said:-There are too many! -. And then, what's wrong with sleeping in bed with a baby?? Come on, you keep ruining themselves with these inventions of the fighter! By, Victory

omg leave the guy alone hes dead its unfair to every one else hes not even good or great

  • Nick - 15 years ago

I think his being awarded a posthumous award is great! I can't wait for him to win the same award again in 2010, 2011, 2012 and maybe even 2013! Awesome!!

  • casey - 15 years ago

Music is nothing without Micheal Jackson. Maybe if people had of stood behind him in his time of need instead of always making fun of him and putting him down every time he tried to put out an album, maybe he wouldn't have strayed away. I think if he had of stayed closer to his family, he would have felt better about himself. He will always be number 1 and nobody can ever be better than him. He was number when he was alive and he is damn sure number 1 NOW! The GREATEST!

  • mjcrazed - 15 years ago

Michael is was and always will be the best entertainer the world has ever seen,he deserves this honor because we still love his music and what he has done for the music industry. He opened all kind of doors for these other artist to be where they are today,if it wasn't for Michael ,the music would have been so dead, like it is now ,His music lives and i only listen to his music, other music just sucks.Michael music is from his heart and soul, that's why it is still the best music on this planet and we all love it.

  • Ashley - 15 years ago

So true. No one can even compare to Michael. He is the king of pop, he is the reason why all the pop stars are where they are today. Without him, they would be nothing. I hope he sweeps it, and may he forever rest in peace. We love you, Michael, and we are all voting and waiting to see you win it all.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Name one other artist who has had as big an impact on the world in 2009. Artist of the year? Hell yeah he deserves it. He had a hell of a year.

  • jane - 15 years ago

Not only Michael Jackson should win all but I feel its an honor for these artist to even be nominated side by side with the King of Pop! Hell, who are these artists anyways?

  • jane - 15 years ago

I love Michael Jackson and his awesome music. He has earned this recognition and deserves these nominations without a doubt. I've been a fan since the beginning and now my four children are discovering Michael Jackson and they all think he is amazing. Michael Jackson's "new" fan base should count as well as his old fans. The music industry put him on the back burner; obviously his true fans never did. I hope he sweeps the AMAs.

  • Helen - 15 years ago

No matter how you some it up, he was the king alive and still in death, he was a great musician then and will be heard for a very long time, he changed the way we dance, see music and feel about music, he was made a mochary of in life
and now in death, he deserves these awards they where earned.Long live his music. Rest in peace King Of Pop

  • eagle07 - 15 years ago

Michael Jackson deserved that award more than other actors/actris/singers from all over the world, by the recognition of his incredible talented of music and dance and his kind hearted person that no one could do it the same before and would not ever being able to do for the futur, not event when we comparing to what Michael did to most of people in this world, from decade until for the coming years. Michael love all of us from his bottom of his heart and we could feel it after knowing his death, how great is his love and that we have terribly deeply bigger feeling of love to him too, event more after we knew that he is really gone. We love you Michael, and we are very happy to you for this award, as you deserved. You were great and will always be greatest one, ever. So, longlife for our king, forever, untill the end of our time.

  • Emily - 15 years ago

The music industry is dead after MJ's passing.

  • Zephyr - 15 years ago

I too agree that you have summed it up perfectly, Diana. When it comes right down to it, sales equals popularity. Therefore, sales represent what people want to see on an awards show.

  • Himmycat18 - 15 years ago

Diana, you summed it up perfectly. TIMELESS is the operative word here. Enough said.

  • Diana - 15 years ago

Michael Jackson died on June 25 2009. True, these songs are not of 2009. True, his death has brought people on a nostalgic wave to buy his music.
True there are some talented artists that have also been nominated for recent works.
What these sales figures represent is not only dollar value, but rather to make a point. PEOPLE ARE EMOTIONAL BUYERS WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC. THEIR HEARTS DRIVE THEM. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE MUSIC WAS CREATED YESTERDAY, THE DAY BEFORE OR DECADE. HIS MUSIC STILL HAS HEARTS BEATING AROUND THE WORLD. IF HE ONLY KNEW HOW HE MAKES PEOPLE FEEL WITH HIS MUSIC AND DANCE, MAYBE HE WOULD STILL BE HERE TODAY. HE IS TRULY TIMELESS AND A BIG BEAUTIFUL ARTIST.WHO CAN BLAME ANYONE FOR WANTING TO REMEMBER HIM AND BUY HIS MUSIC. EVEN NOW PEOPLE WILL FIND A WAY TO SAY HIS GREATNESS IS NOT FAIR!!
