First of all, I am very worried that people with probable flu ( not tested) particularly the pediatric group, do not know which flu they have. If not already immunized, how do they determine which vaccine they will then need and how long after their illness it's advisable to wait before getting it. At that point, I would be more concerned with the use of the flumist (a live attenuated virus). What happens if a person ends up with back to back flu illnesses?
I am bewilded that the Seasonal vaccine was not given out in August or early Sept. with a big campaign to do so. It should have been more easy to find out when and where to get it. Many physicians are not giving it out in their office or at least being told that by the staff who may be misinformed as to which one, if any, would be. Iknow the swine flu vaccine only became available in this state this wk. Some kids need two doses of each. I hear that the kids will be receiving it @ school. Who has that info yet? In general I think this State fell down on their preparedness.
Some hospitals are trying to gear up on staff availability in the event of a pandemic but how many of them have gotten both vaccines?
