I think my insurance companies abide by the laws of the state which regulate much of what they can and can't do. Considering the fact that their profit margins last year were about 2.5% doesn't tell me they are "raping and pillaging" consumers. If they were profiting at 10% or 12%, then I'd think differently - especially in the current economy.

I think all my car and house insurances are fair, NOT my health.....

Since I've never had a claim against my health, car, or homeowner's insurance, I don't know if they're fair. Sooner or later, I guess I'll find out.

If I did not think my premiums were fair, at least I have the option of comparable shopping.

Health insurance should only cover major issues. Every health insurance should have a $1,000.00 deductable.

Your car insurance covers accidents, NOT worn out tires, spark plugs, floor mats, headlights ... ETC ... Health insurance should be the same.

QIUT nickle and diming your health insurance with the sniffles, and a hang nail.

I want to see the amount of profits the insurance companies make yearly.
I'm sure its in the millions or more. This would make the people have a different look at health reform.
Thank you

I think insurance companies do everything possible to avoid paying off on claims regardless of the type of insurance which is not fair, you should get the protection you are told you are buying. I think they spend too much money on advertizing and this cost is simply passed along. Some companies simply have an approach to their customers that is more equitable than others, but finding this info out is not as easy as it should be.

One does not know about insurance until one needs it.

But at least with an insurance co. if they do wrong by you, you have the option of suing them.

Try that with the government.

So far, my insurance is working for me.

Profit over health, so jsut die and let the profits roll on. The less they have to pay out the more profit increases. Profit is good!!! Health is bad

Yep it's fair. I get what I pay for. If I want full blown coverage on my car I pay for it. I do not expect anyone else to.
As for health insurance, I do not pay for it because I get it through the VA as well as Tricare for Life. I do pay $400 a year to have my wife covered under Tricare.

GREAT is PROFIT

Profit is very good ....

Profit is exceptionally GREAT. Lazy, parasites, that want to suck from a government, socialized, anti capitalist, single payer program are scum.

NOTHING FREE, for ANY REASON, WHAT SO EVER .... EVER, should be given to ANYONE who is physically sound and between the ages of 18 and 70.

ANYONE who is physically sound and between the ages of 18 and 70, and are to freaken lazy to take care of themself, SHOULD do everyone else a GIANT FAVOR, and starve and die.

Insurance is good until you need it. I have a certain auto policy and have been with them for years, I`m sure the amount of money I have paid would more than cover the vehicle in question. But in a claim that was due to a no fault accident(my van was parked and hit by a person texting)they treated me like a criminal because I wanted original(not junkyard) replacement parts and claims that damage was not repaired. I used their shop so repairs would be guaranteed for life. I had only owned the vehicle for a few months and had full coverage. I guess their supermarket add on T.V. must have cost the money it would have taken to satisfy a customer.

on feb. 9th., i had a blood clot on my brain. was transferred from local hospital to a major medical facility. ambulance charge was $871.00. i was unconcious but didn't have any say so in the decision anyway. major surgery. ambulance would have been paid had they picked my up from home. just a little bit of fine print. pay attention to your policies about such things. guess the insurance company thought i could maybe just walk or get in the back of my neighbor's truck.

A lot of people don't know that most people who are on Medicare have to PAY for their Health Insurance and RX coverage and they are from different Ins. companies. They cost about $100 each, therefore me and my husband pay $400 a month for medical insurance and drug coverage and we have a co pay and our medical only pays 80%... You would think as much money as the Government collects for premiums for Health Ins we should be able to get some good Insurance! We don't even have Dental.... I say Keep Government AWAY from taking care of OUR business

Insurance is a business & should profit, a lot.
2009-10-13 19:35:18 ET

Insurance, is to make sure you don't loose your house, NOT to pay every freaken medical expense you get during your life.

If I were taking on the very bad bet insurance companies take on, I would charge a whole lot more than they do.

Though I am not in favor of Government run insurance I see major issues and improvements that need to be addressed to the insurance industry as well as Tort Reform. But....we do not need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Dear Greta

Ivotwed yes. why? I am super old fashion woman and I am from North-East inner city and grew up with no insurence. People from subarb use Insurence un wisely. Lawyears are waiting to sue insurence companey. I remember the car Insurence and "Neck Pain" in accident. If anyone got hit from back. Living in inner city and Insurence Car, home and helth) mean free money from law suit. I look at life very differently than "life run by insurence." Insurence is for desaster not for "gettin rich by iit."

Healthcare costs could be reduced if tort reform was adopted but there is no mention of it. I like my insurance and want to keep things the way they are. If changes need to be made sstart with cleaning up medicaid and medicare fraud and introducing tort reform to the bill.

2009-10-14 04:31:40 ET

Our Car, House, Life Ins. is good and fair. Our health insurance which is Blue Cross/Blue Shield is from my husband's company where he worked for 32 years. We like it and we've had no problems with either health care plan or prescription drug plan. I am very happy with our health insurance. We will be 65 years old next year and will be on Medicare which will become our primary and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois will become the secondary. Obama, Reid and Pelosi better not mess with our health insurance company or take any money away from Medicare because we won't be the only ones going after the Democrats for trying to control the health care system when they can't even handle the US Postal Service-just about bankrupt, and social security and medicare is bankrupt because the Democrats keep stealing money from that account and using it for purposes other than what it is designed for. Keep your greedy, power hungry hands off our health care and out of our lives. One of the senators the other day suggested that they put the money back into the social security system and all of the senators laughed. I'd like to propose that the governmernt employees and the legislators have to contribute to the social security system and into medicare, then they wouldn't be so anxious to take money out of it. The money that was printed to use in the bogus stimulus plan that was only pork and earmarks to pay back the Democrats who supported them including the unions. There wasn't anything in that bill that would produce jobs. How could money to be used to find out why pigs stink produce one single job. How could the tattoo removal machine for Pelosi's state of Calif. help the economy. If people got tattoos and want them removed, they can pay for it not the government. All of the money to help supposedly endangered species like a rat in Montana or California, and a bridge over a road to protect animals from being run over because the road was in the path that these animals always travel. Why didn't someone do a study to see if this road would cause this problem before it was built? Fixing up government land and such does not create jobs and it not absolutely necessary. The state and local governments are having to take less income to keep their jobs and/or not get paid for 2 days a month. Why isn't the legislators taking a cut in salary to help out??? We should hire investigators to catch the fraud that is in the welfare and medicare system and it would pay for itself. Do tort reform and put limits on punitive damages so the rates for malpractice insurance that the doctors have to pay would go down because you know they are passed on to the consumer anyway. Stop the legislators from accepting money from lobbyists like the lawyer lobbyists, health insurance lobbyists, and any other lobbyists that prevent us from making this country better. We've got plenty of natural gas and oil to never have to buy a drop from any other country particularly because they hate us. The oil drilling companies have come a long way to drill much more safely. We need to drill more in Alaska, off the Coast of California, and more in the gulf but since the hurricanes hit there, we have to drill more in safer areas that have a more stable weather like California and Alaska. Texas is not financially hurting because they are drilling for oil still. We've got to think about the people first, then saving the animals. Don't print any more money as our dollar is almost not worth anything anymore and I believe that Obama did that on purpose to make us switch to a world currency and to destroy the United States so we'd have to join with the rest of the world to become a new World Government with one world currency like Kissinger is predicting. Stop paying for turtle habitats all over the world!

Never enough options to select from. I think that the insurance company are more honest and fair than a government voted health care will ever be. Look a DMV, Medicare, Social Security, Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Arnold, Boxer, Snow, Feinstein.

In Government who can we really trust to protect the best interest of US citizens.

I've always LOST when I bet against the insurance companies. I bet I'd die, they bet I wouldn't, THEY WON. I bet I'd get serious, expensive, illnesses, I didn't, THEY WON. I bet I'd have a serious car addicent, I didn't, THEY WON.

Unfortunately, insurance of any kind is a necessary evil. I have homeowners insurance even though I own my home outright because you never know what can happen. We have had claims due to wind damage and the insurance came through for us. We also have health insurance which we use heavily as we have a diabetic in the house and also suffered a knee injury this summer. You just never know.

I had aortic heart valve surgery, which was the result of a birth
defect that I lived with for 47 years. The total cost of everything was
a little over 88,000. I paid about 4,500 to 6,000 dollars total.
One year before that my wife was in ICCU for 4 weeks with a
rare type of cancer before the family had to let her go. The bill was
over 250,000 dollars. I paid about 8,000 to 6,000 dollars of it.
The same insurance company took care of the rest. I don't
believe the "great one" would let that happen if his bill passes
