Unfortunately the Nobel Peace Pride now has no credibility. It will forever just be known as the Hate Bush award!
Who thinks Obama deserves the "Best president" prize though?
Who DOESN'T think Obama doesn't deserve the prize? I mean, he rocks! (Is rocking peaceful, though?:P)
Obviously Obama will not get it,nor does he deserve it.Case closed
Nope, Obama doesn't deserve it.
What do you think? Huh! Look what happen to America nowadays? People are on a chaos situation! Most of them are the homeowners and retirees. They simply just go back to their country for good. Now! Where is the CHANGE??? It's getting worse! Where is the STIMULUS fund that he borrowed from China? It was just simply goes to the LITCH, instead of helping those 70% struggling homeowners.
Now, thus Obama, deserves to have this so called Novel Peace Prize?
well perhaps you'd all like more of George Bush and his mob. Nothing and no-one in this life is perfect and Obama represents Hope for many many peiople. Unless you are a born again conservative, you must agree that this is good for us all.
30-years-ago (1979), Mother Teresa won the Nobel Peace Prize. I can completely understand why she'd win the prize. Its people like her, that lend at least some credibility to this honor. It would appear that The nobel prize has officially lost all credibility.
What's even more bizaar, is the fact that Pres. Obama was nominated only 11 days after taking office. How on earth could you possibly nominate someone after only 11 days? Its rediculous. Its absolutely rediculous.
Frankly, I thought it was rediculous, when former-VP Al Gore won last year, because of a psuedo-science documentary and Rock Concert. Granted he won an Oscar for his film, but how exactly does that translate to a Nobel Prize?
While I'm all for giving the $1.3 million to charity, I think their choice was obsurd. The prize was already originally mocked, because it was named after the inventor of dynamite, and yet it was meant as a Peace Prize, but this just further mocks the prize. Surely there were worthier people, they could have nominated, and given the prize too.
The fact is, we wont know for another 50-years, who else was nominated. What we do know is there were 205 nominees this year and 33 of them were organizations. Of course, some of those nominees were for other nobel prizes in the sciences. However, out of all those people, this was the best they could do. That's pethetic. I'm an American, and he's my President, and even I think that's lame.
I deserve it!!!
Very narrow-minded views here. He deserves it for the same reason Mother Theresa deserved it: for setting a good example as the leader of one of the world's most powerful nations. It is not a "hate Bush" award. Bush was simply a despicable and incompetent president who got us into two wars and literally watched while the nation took a tumble and the world along with it. He could never have wone the award. He believed in unilateralism, he believed that the USA could just bomb other nations indiscriminately, he did not give a hoot about the less fortunate. He was an ill-tempered, dumb man, period.
Obama is being given the prize for returning the world to the idea of diplomacy and dialogue, for in fact raising the bar on how people communicate. But apparently so many people have become blunted by their own tight little ideologies and Beck-fed paranoia, that they hardly notice the shift. With his new strategic direction, countries are being compelled to either sit at the table and compromise, or be isolated. It's happening in Iran, NK and even Venezuela.
This fellow, given a chance, will put human rights back on the table and tell nations either they are with us, or they'll be alone. And he is not going to give them the attention they thirst for. Why do you think that China even weighed in against NK???
The problem with most naysayers, esp. in the USA, is that they no longer understand the subtelty required to perform dimplomatic tasks in a complex world. It all has to be big, blunt, and easily understandable to someone with an IQ of 70.
He does'nt deserve it!
I think its a bit premature, let him DO something, all a lot of talk so far...
The question is what did he do to get a Nobel Peace price!
A person with common sense would never agree that Obama deserves a Nobel Peace price. If a person really deserves that, even a common man should be able to tell what he did to get that nobel price. I mean, he should have "reached" people like that!
@Marton R,
"This fellow, given a chance, will put human rights back on the table and tell nations either they are with us, or they'll be alone."
So, you are saying that he is given a chance by this Nobel Peace Price?
Which means, you yourself admit that he did not do anything to win the price. Rather, he is a given a chance to do something nice by awarding the nobel price before hand?
Are we bargaining with Nobel peace price? "We give you nobel price, please do something nice in return!!" OMG!! Where the hell is the world going?
the nobel peace prize has become a joke. Gandhi was nominated 5 times.the Prize committe never felt like giving him the prize. Was it because he raised issues like aparthied ? fighting the Imperialists? the whites ? Contrast this with - israel-egypt heads - who were given it as they tried to solve their bilateral problems. If that is the case then the Indian - Pakistan heads also should be given Peace prize for starting a dialogue- so many times . Intent is not enough. Where is the action? where are the results from Obama.
Just a small comment to orkro; you wrote about the Nobel Peace Prize being mocked for it being named after the inventor of the dynamite yet representing peace. The dynamite's first and foremost use has never been, and will never be, warfare. In fact, the dynamite revolutionized construction and industrial work in so many different ways that it can actually be hard to comprehend. Guns, bombs and things like that were around a long time before the dynamite; what Nobel did was to construct a stable and safe explosive that wouldn't go off without intention as easily as its predecessors. Therefore the 'Peace' in the price is actually a very fitting title, as the dynamite created safety and security for workers and probably helped reduce death and suffering from explosives. Think about the world we live in today; explosives are continuously being used for non-lethal purposes, such as demolition work, mining, and clearing of avalanches, which all are pretty far from warfare.
Another note; has anyone of you ever stopped to think that Obama did work as a senator for quite some time before he became president, and that he might have done some interesting things there; for example I know he worked a lot against the existence of nuclear weapons.
I voted yes by the way, I do think Obama deserves the Peace Prize. Although I agree with many of you that it is too soon, I wouldn't say that makes him undeserving of it. It's too soon, but it is still given to a man who would end up with getting it anyway.
I agree with whoever thinks Obama DOESN'T deserve it.
I think he is deserve that because he doing the proper job for your country and other nation. He have great communication in muslims countries and he know that the time is Gobal Communication Relationship. He is also know that The world is in danger situation Iran got the nucluear Power in a few years and discrage the reasonable situation that he is cover the world and rejected the nucluear power by all over the world. This is reasons I m vete him.
Yeah, Diankor's right. I also agree with those who think Obama doesn't deserve it. Heh, who else thinks so?
I wish he did deserve it. I'm a socialist, and what I want is for him to earn it. Instead of sending more troops to Afghanistan, he should pull ALL troops out of the Middle East. That would earn a Nobel Peace prize.
Another thing Obama could do to earn the Nobel Peace prize would be to make Gay Marriage a Federal law, protected under the constitution. That would be awesome.
Another thing Obama could do is grant immediate amnesty (or even citizenship), which would unite some more families.
Another thing he could do is end all funding to israel. Less dead Palestinians would be a good step towards earning the Nobel Peace Prize.
I think we need some more left-wing protests, like the national equality march to force him to earn that prize.
Look Obama has only been in office for about 9 1/2 months almost 10 and hed has done all he can do; he has tried to get the health care plan ti go on through but he cant because of Republicans, and he also said before he was elected president that it would get worse before it gets better so u tell me? but i think he does deserve it cause it isnt as worst as it was because people are finding jobs and homes to to live in so YES Obama does deserve the award!! HOW U DOING <--- wEnDY wiLLIamS VOICE
ARE YOU'LL MAD CUZ U DIDNT GET IT, HUH, OR UR PARENTS DIDNT GO THROUGH THE THINGS THEY NEEDED TO GO THROUGH TO WIN PRESIDENT....HHMMM SORRI BUT WE ALL CANT GET A PIECE OF THE PIE!!!! YES YES YES HE DOES DESERVE IT!!!!
I think it is too early to determine if he should win an award like that.
Obama for the Heisman Trophy!!
If he deserves the Noble Peace Prize, he deserves the Heisman!
He doesn't deserve it because he hasn't done anything. He's gotten it because, in a year so full of villains, he's the most likely person to earn one in the next to near future. Put simply, there is no one else.
Les Olson, you are right on target!
For what, exactly are we rewarding him for? The color of his skin? Now, that's racism!
Clinton has earned and deserves the Nobel for his charity work and peace work in the middle east and northern Ireland. Obama was probably embarrassed, I mean what has he done? What chance has he had to do anything? In fact its more likely to be an albatross round his neck. How as a Nobel peace prize winner can he make tough decisions on Afghanistan, Iran etc The decision makers made a mistake here.
You are actually supposed to DO something EXTRAORDINARY to get the Nobel Peace Prize.
Can someone please tell me what he has done? He was nominated 9 days after entering office? Exactly what had he accomplished? Being the first black president of the United States.
I am afraid the Nobel Peace Prize is now an official Farce.
Good going everyone!
Hey, if he can get one, where's mine? For that matter, most of us could get one. We'd each get a mil and life would be good.
http://conservegan.wordpress.com/2009/10/09/obama-nobel-peace-prize/
Obama received the Nobel Peace prize "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
I like to think he received the award for HOPE ! Hope for the future of peace, not only in the US but for the world; that when visiting countries way off the map he doesn't sound like a pompus "I'm the best one in the house" jackass; hope in the normal American life - his mother-in-law lives with him; hope in not being afraid to step out of the box we've been in for the past dozen or so years; hope in the black face of America - when we elected him, we practiced what we've been preaching since Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation and LBJ signed the Voting Rights Bill ! For HOPE - what better extraordinary effort is there?
Has Obama done something to *deserve* a peace prize?
Driving while black, maybe?
Not being Bush?
Mahatma Gandhi was nominated 4 times and never won. If ever someone deserved it - he did. What a lot of people aren't thinking about is who lost when Obama won. The other nominees were probably people who have given their lives in heroic ways for the cause of justice and peace. They have championed their causes day in and day out -not with words but with actions and often with actions that put them at odds with their countries - one nominee was Chinese dissident who is now in jail.
Anyway, most people do understand that President Obama won the prize not for his actions but mostly for his speeches. That is not a good enough reason to win.
In my opinion we should not be looking whether Obama deserves the Nobel Prize or not but who else deserves the Nobel Prize. I am not an American but I am amazed how critical the US is on itself. Look Asia is in a mess of terrorism, Africa is in a mess of dictatorship, Europe is in a mess of intolerance. So the world is looking inspiration to the United States and that inspiration comes from Obama. This award is for the US voter and US citizens in general and I think Obama represents the United States. He has not done much yet to deserve it...but who else deserves it? no one.
he doesn't deserve it.not now. i have already said it. the comment that with all the other countries / continents suffering problems-terrorrism,dictatorship,intolerence- US represents hope. also that he has done something for the US citizens. so Obama is given the prize. ridiculous. a country which has created and helped in growth of the problems - can it solve them ? If he has done something for US , it is internal. if there was no one worth the prize it should not have been given.
What has he done to deserve it? Honestly, we have all heard a bunch of talk, but there hasn't been any action at all....
Wasn't it widely acknowledged that it was Pope John Paul XXIII, Lech
Walesa, and Rondald Reagan that brought down the iron curtain,
thus liberating millions of Easter Europeans from the tyranny of
Soviet style tyranny? Yet, Walesa, the Union leader was the only
one deemed worthy of the award by the Nobel Committee? Why?
Is an American leader with a Conservative viewpoint. and the leader
of 1 Billion Christians worldwide not worthy of this award. Obama
winning this award is like Peter, Paul and Mary winning the Grammy for top
Vocal Group of 1964, bypassing the Beatles? I give Obama credit for
being a brilliant orator, campaigner, and politician, but the Nobel
Peace Prize after 11 days in office.....PLEASE?
I don't think he deserves it because as far as I can tell, he hasn't really done anything to bring the world peace!!!
What a joke! A president for 10 months, a monkey could have won the election as long as he was not a Republican. We have a very short memory in this country, has any of you really listened to him? The guy is a very smooth talker who can convince you that what he said is what you wanted to hear. Have you bothered to ask "What Change"? His change only promotes the moral filth of the liberal's agenda.
He hasn't done a thing to deserve it. I personally think my dog earns it! He's eaten tons of snails, and saved many plants! That's a lot more peace than Obama's made.
Don't judge a man by the color of his skin. Instead, just close your eyes and visualize Bush saying the same stuff. Would you like him as much?
The main reason he was awarded a Nobel Prize within 2 weeks of his inauguration by the international community is to make it difficult for him to add more troops to Afghanistan &/ or deploy troops to any other potential problem areas in the future.
It is all about posturing & strategy by our foreign 'friends' & the liberals who want to passively NOT deal with problem countries & the threats they may bring home to the US.
The idealistic unrealistic hope is that everybody will live & let live happily every after. If we don't bother them they won't try to destroy us, right? Let's all gather around & sing Cum Ba Yah!
@Guy You got point there...!
he already won it for doing nothing!
Not yet. He hasn't brought any sort of peace to the world yet.
no no. he doesn't deserve it.
a president that will fund isreali army with about 30 billion dollars, while seeing what they do to children, i dont think he should deserve nobel prize. plus till now he did nothing, except talking about closing guantanamo
If he has done something for US , it is internal. if there was no one worth the prize it should not have been given.
This is the Joke of the Yar
"Don't judge a man by the color of his skin. Instead, just close your eyes and visualize Bush saying the same stuff. Would you like him as much?"
Kyle, You hit the nail right on the head.
