this award has become a joke. Al gore who only gets richer while using more power at his home than most people flying private jets and telling us to cut back. Carter who helps dictators who kill people running against them keep thier office. what a bunch of idiots get this. It is just a liberal award now.

This is the same committee that gave the Peace prize to Yasser Arafat.

FRAUD!!!!!! Laughable FRAUD!
This vote confirms the prize is nothing but politics. Worthless.

Repudiation of Bush? Give me a break. It's racist pure and simple. He was nominated and won because he is a black man. Obama is a shadow. He has hidden all of his school records and any other record that would show us what he is made of. Even his books are being questioned as to who wrote them. He never authored any thing before the books. All he had given at the point of nomination was words, nothing more. I would be embarrassed if I were Obama. Nothing personal, he may turn out to be a great president, but he needs time in office.

Doing a little research, the will of the founder of the prize states it should go "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

Other past nominees included Stalin and Hitler....

Makes sense to me!

This guy gets recognition for schmoozing with leaders of known terrorist countries and not feeding the need of our Troops abroad defending us.

What an embarrassment AGAIN to the USA.

I’m not surprised! The Nobel Peace Prize is insignificant. If they gave the prize to a murderous thug like Arafat who stole billions of dollars from his own people, they’d give it to a weak, naive, foolish pacifist like Obama.

he's done nothing but apologize for the actions of the united states since he ran for office.if this is the criteria for winning the prize then i guess he deserves it.if he's that ashamed of his country then why be the president?

Please give me a break. Mr. Obama does nothing but put America down. He has only been in office a little over 8 months. That's barely enough time to learn where things are in the White House.

The Democrats and Mr. O are in the process of ruining this country. All he/they know how to do is spend - spend - spend & tax - tax - tax, and put this and future generations in debt. Sure Bush got to where he was spending like a liberal, but at least he did not put America down. O's spending makes Bush's pale in comparison.

FE
2009-10-09 11:16:01 ET

Um.... Let's see. It must have been Bush's fault that he won since it was Bush's fault that we, thank goodness lost the additional tax burden Olympics. I suppose that since he was nominated just before the February 10 deadline, he was chosen for all of his prior work as an "ACORN Community Organizer". Surely, the nominating committee would not base their choice with only having served 2 weeks as President of the new USSA.

Maria
2009-10-09 11:16:27 ET

The Nobel Peace Committee has soiled itself. Too bad they didn't give it to the
Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husayni al-Sistani in Iran, who risks daily assassination in his support of non-retribution, democracy, and women's suffrage to counter the violent extremists. Someone who shows personal bravery, achievement, and principle. Instead, the prize goes to a 1938 Neville Chamberlain wanna-be who hides behind a teleprompter.

"his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation."

I guess talking about; talking about international diplomacy and cooperation, is how this committee sees greatness.

The bar has sunk to an unprecedented low. Awarding Obama this Peace Prize has put a tarnish on this prestigious award, that may very well take years to wear off. With the deadline for nominations back in mid February, the entire basis for Obama winning was based on campaign rhetoric.

The committee should be ashamed for such Political move, in what is supposed to be a non-political environment

Mike M.

I wonder how much George Soros gave to the selection committee? Since the nomination deadline was February 1st and Obama was only in office two weeks, there has to be a hidden factor in here somewhere.

Or did I miss the extraordinary events that took place in the first two weeks of his presidency that brought the world together and achieved universal peace for all time? Hooray! The Iraq and Aghan wars are over. The Somalia pirates have taken up fishing for a living. The Taliban and Al Qaida have denounced terrorism and have expressed love for their Christian brothers. Iran and North Korea have turned their centrifuge installations to a kids theme park. All is now peace and love in the world. Oh, thank you Messiah Obama, Thank You.

The real reason is the liberal elite in the world are so in love with the idea of this man that they have no qualms about giving him an award after barely 9 months in office. it doesn't matter if you ACTUALLY accomplish anything, only that you AGREE with them and are 'trying'! Appearances matter more than fact to them.... so sad.

David
2009-10-09 12:01:55 ET

The President has to date done nothing to warrant this award. To be blunt, he has several issues facing him but has yet to secure a position on any of them. I think this was a political move to bolster his image by giving him a "victory". I don't think is was a slam on Bush and as far as the citation, well they had to come up with something didn't they.

Concerned
2009-10-09 12:10:18 ET

We already knew the Nobel Peace Prize was simply a tool to advance liberal agendas. After Carter, Gore, Arafat, the Prize is meaingless in any intellectually honest way. We see the Swedes injecting themselves into our politics by trying to bolster a failing President Obama. But, then, Obama is so strongly against America, literally the first anti-American president in our history, that the Swedes couldn't help but reward his ideology, which matches the prevailing anti-American feelings of the world's leftest governments and dictators and thugs. Of course they love him, he embraces all the bad guys and gives our allies the cold shoulder. Obama....running the country into the ground so he and his marxist/socialist/statist cronies can save us with more government control of our lives, slowly extinguishing our liberties, and exposing us to the risk of attack by our sworn enemies. Like all liberal fantasies, we can take the Nobel statement and know that what is says is the exact opposite of the truth.

Izzy

Its troubling that he was selected considering that the deadline for nomination was Feb 1! What is the critieria for this award in that short space of time? His accomplishments as a Senator or ACORN activist??

Anyone watching the Nobel announcements realizes that it has become a highly politicized organization and that it tries hard to show their disgust with our conservative leaders with nominations like Carter / Gore / Obama! They've become irrelevant and frankly useless in my opinion.

I was listening to Al and Staci in the car about this recent happening. It is totally inconceiveable to me that Obama was awarded the Peace prize when he hasn't accomplised ANYTHING! I don't think it is a slam on President Bush, but I do think it is political. I perceive the committee making a statement about Obama's ambition to make all people, all nations equal. It is utopian CRAP! This is coming at the expense of American preeminence as our leader brings America to the level of the third world country. Other nations rejoice at that.

I awoke to this news and thought it was a nightmare. Obama could not even bring peace in his hometown of Chicago, is continually bringing unrest to our country with his rediculous policies, can't make up his mind about Afghanistan where my brother-in-law is serving and continually brings this country down by berating it. He's on a constant "campaign" tour. There must have been slim-pickins this year for him to have won. The whole award and the committee is a joke - it has no credibility. Supporting him requires that I vote for his re-election and vote for others that will support his policies. I plan to do neither! I will not support him on philosophical grounds. I fully expect his policies to fail at best and undermine our liberties and strengths at worst so how can I support him? I consider him to be not only a socialist but a communist. NO, michael, soldiers take an oath to protect the CONSTITUTION first. If the president does not follow the constitution, then soldiers don't have to obey him. In fact, in such a case, they are suppossed to oppose the president. Americans do NOT follow a solitary leader, if they did, that would be tyranny.

Michael, drop all the political and waving the flag thing for a few minutes and look at a couple points.

1. Nominations for potential winners of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize ended on February 1.

2. President Obama took office on Jan. 20th,that means he was President for 11 days before the nominations were closed,so what was so great that he did in his first 11 days to get nominated, and how nominated him and for what reason.

3. And what about the other 204 nominations, who were they and what were the reasons they were nominated, most of us will never know because there is a 50 year ban on releasing the names and information for each years nominations,so we want know till 2056.

4. Who and what was he nominated for based on the first 11 days he was President, because thats all whoever nominated him has to base there reasons on. Nobody on Gods green earth knew what he was going to do after Feb. 1 unless they has some kind of flash forward moment.

And last by not least I could care less what political, racial, gender, religious etc. afflictions my President may have, but I don't have to follow any politician blindly. I have the right as an American to ask question, disagree and voice my opinion of there policies. On an individual level I don't want the President as a man to fail and I respect his office, but on a policy level I totally disagree with most of what he proposes and wants to do to this country.

There are two kinds of people in this world, sheep that follow and never question and sheepdogs that are always on guard, for you never know when the wolf may strike or at what hour they come.

I just want to know what he did in eleven days in office.... That's all I want to know. Otherwise this "peace prize" is a total sham and disgraces al of the previos winners and all future winners will have no credibility...

shocked, "Black and a Towelhead"? Really? That's what you've got? I'm not impressed. Anybody else here want to weigh in on this? Or are you going to let your silence define you?

RS, why does Obama have to be President to qualify for the prize. I fail to see the significance of the eleven days.

Will, they take an oath to defend the Constitution AND obey the orders of the President. It's the same oath.

Michael, looks like you need a new home. Call it like you see it.

Will, good for you. I never though the flag itself was important either. People wrap them selves in it and think they are better than you are. I carry the flag with me all the time, but you can see it only through my deeds.

Michael, sikovit, and all you other people jumping into foxholes. Don't do it, regardless of the President. Stay civilian, it's more civil.

sikovit, awarding the prize to a man in charge of two wars is indeed troubling. However, he did not start the wars. He was against the Iraq war and seeks an end to the war in Afghanistan. Let's hope he pulls out all the troops soon, as I think that is part of the expectation that comes with this award.

President Obama was givien the prize in order to deter him from defending the USA through invasion of hostile countries (example: Iran)

I must agree with you...the mamby pamby Europeans that awarded him the prize now EXPECT us to do as THEY would do...tuck our tails, and pull out!

Makes it all worthwhile...bribing a Commander in Chief to again bow to terrorists and turn his back to all the Armed Forces that gave their lives protecting us.

I can only wonder if we pulled out of Europe in WWII before mission accomplished, what they would be doing now!

btw...the charity he's donating to, please don't be ACORN!
